I Shouldn't Have

I shouldn't have...but I did. I set off to run errands today and I had to run out to the farm (a two hour drive there and back) to pick up things I needed for Jon's awards banquet Friday night. On the way home I took a detour to Lawrence (about 30 minutes from KC).
Lawrence = Sarah's Fabrics.

Retail therapy really doesn't satisfy, but maybe it could make a long week seem a bit shorter, maybe I could miss my hubby and Fudge a little less, so...

I drove, I lingered, I shopped, I spent.

Hello Betty...it's a great name for a fabric and it's cute too.
I have a plan for these letters and who could resist a cool selvage like that?
I paid too much for these.
This one has been on my have to buy list.
I was so lucky to find two of my favorite flea market fancy prints. I bought every inch they had. Maybe 3 hours in a fabric store is a good thing.
I didn't get these at Sarah's, but they're new and I love these Paula Prass cobblestones.
Found a few fat quarters of Amy's dots in a bin...this blue wanted to come home with me.

I don't know what came over me.

Consequences:
...didn't get to the post office before it closed
...no groceries
...no texas toast to make french toast for 150 high school students this weekend
...forgot to make a hair appointment
...lost my list

I need to get it together.

  2. I too have a slight obsession with Sarah's. They can cure the blues/grumpies any day, especially if you get there when new stuff is arriving! And who doesn't enjoy Possums assistance? As a side note I love your quilts, I often come here when I need a bit of inspiration!

  3. Mama said there'd be days like this. It's a good thing there are fabric stores to see us through. Great finds. Hang in there.

  4. Getting it together is overrated !

That owl fabric is just about enough to cheer anyone up!

  5. Blogger just gave me a weird message, so if you get a way-off-topic comment from me feel free to delete it. Or, it can just add some random spice to your comments section!

Anyway, just wanted to say that sometimes, a woman just has to go out and get some fabric. Also, I love the letters!

  6. :) Fabric stores are like chocolate, just more expensive...
    Great fabrics you found.

  7. I always lose myself in a fabric store too! I do love what you bought. How could you pass that up? The rest of your list will still be there waiting for you tomorrow. But someone else may have gotten to those fabrics before you.

  8. Awww, fabulous fabrics - and you know you'll use them to make something wonderful! The post office, etc will be open tomorrow. Forgive yourself and enjoy!

  11. Good for you! You found some great ones.
My hubby says I can buy fabric whenever he leaves on a business trip. I usually don't, but it feels so good to know I could if I had a hard day.

  12. Good luck this weekend. And those fabrics can make anyone take a breath and relax, and lists are not worth it anyway. :)

  13. I am thinking that a trip to the fabric store is WAY more fun than grocery shopping or post offices any day! (Thank you for letting me live vicariously through you, as I am on a month long "fabric fast"!!!)

I have been thinking about something we were trying to talk about yesterday while my head was getting jumped on and I'm going to email you.

  31. OK...2 hrs. there...2 hrs. back = 4 hrs. to design MORE future quilts....most of the time I don't remember the drive....I am usually 'day dreaming' about my quilts or future ones I want to do!!

  32. I can so relate to a day like this!! I always think it has to do with the hormones... LOL.. or with filling an empty feeling because we miss the ones we love...?

No post-office, groceries, toast, hair or list, but sure some awsome fabrics!!! Imagine all the projects!!

    Take care!

  36. I'm always on the look out for Flea Market Fancy. You scored! I told myself if I found it in Amish Country I'd buy the entire bolt. NO luck. I love Hello Betty. I have a special project I'm currently working on and I love it. :o) Retail therapy has it's benefits...you're finds are definitely worth what you didn't get accomplished!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, you may not have accomplished the errands on your list, but I'd call that one successful day! You are really lucky to have a brick and mortar store with such a nice stock.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Lovely fabrics. You needed a break from the real world and you took it. Things will come together.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Funny! You have your priorities in order.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You got some wonderful fabrics to make more of your wonderful creations, right? THat's really all that counts.

  41. So....

Who needs to mail their bills anyway?
    Who needs to eat?
150 High Schools Students will find a way to eat...
Hair can wait, but not too long, maybe 1 day.
    Lists... who needs lists?

    Conclusion...

Yes, you should have and you did a great job, nice finds!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think you do have it all together! The fabrics are beautiful and I hope they did provide some therapy.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's called Quilter's Distraction Disorder ( a real syndrome I made up myself). When trying to do too much, spreading ourselves too thin and having too many projects going at once we react by ... buying more fabric. A vicious circle. Since I'm on a fabric diet I'm living vicariously through all of you who post your fabric buys. Yours are real beauties - lots of eye candy.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Even though you didn't accomplish your errands you did get a lot of great fabrics. I have looked at the alphabet fabric too but never could decide what to do with it. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours.

    ReplyDelete
  45. sometimes a girl just needs a little fabric therapy!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Awesome fabrics! Who needs food anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ohhhhhhhhh. I was going to try to pick a favorite, but I'm drooling so profusely, I need to go get a towel. Later.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Screw the consequences, that was EXACTLY what you needed! Great finds!

  50. YOur was the second post I read this morning and the second one from a blogger with the blues. What is up with us this week. I feel it too. I haven't gone shopping...yet. The last blogger bought a new camera! I hope you are feeling better today. If not, have some fun with your new fabric. It's great. Is Sarah's online?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Enjoy, Jacquie. That's why God made fabric and fabric stores! ;-)

  52. it is impossible to resist the rolls of fabric... impossible

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm hoping to drive, linger, shop and spend soon...and hey...everything is wonderful...so it was definitely worth it!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  55. What scrummy fabrics, I personally think you did what you needed to do at that time and if it brought joy and a smile the other things I'm sure can wait.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Really, though, how could you have resisted all that fabric? And sooo lucky to have found the FMF prints!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Sometimes we just have to have one of those spending days without feeling bad. You got some realy nice fabrics and it looked like you had planned the trip...enjoy every new fabric and if it is just going to be in you stash, that is good too.

    ReplyDelete
  58. You're already together! You can eat whatever is in the house as you play with your new fabric. What were you supposed to do? NOT buy every inch of your favorite flea market fancy??? Please, be reasonable.

    ReplyDelete
  59. oh, but you had a great time, and you deserve it. those fabrics are to die for i love the one with the letters! i have never seen it before.

    ReplyDelete
  63. All of your fabric is so beautiful! We all need to treat ourselves every now and then, right?:) There is still plenty of time to get everything else done, but I don't envy you making that much french toast this weekend!

  68. I lived in Lawrence when I was going to KU for graduate school. Looking back I think it was very very very lucky I was so busy with school that I didn't have very much time to quilt because otherwise Sarah's would have been very dangerous.

Thank you for your blog; I really enjoy it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I've never been to Sarah's, but I know I would love it. Great fabrics, can't wait to see what they become... I'm sure they'll live up to their full potential, plus some!
