The May Spring to Finish is over. Can you believe how the month flew by? It's time to account for our finishes. I have two more in under the wire. The first is my new thread cabinet.
My dad whipped up the cabinet with some scraps from his shop. My task was to find the yardsticks. A couple of weeks ago my hubby (with his eagle eye) spotted these in a local antique store. I used my trusty miter box, saw, and a bit of glue to finish it off. Isn't it the cutest? I love that the yardsticks are such fun colors and most of them are sewing related. My favorite is in the upper left corner that says, "Modern by Every Measure." It's so me!
The last 6 project improv tops are done. Tonight I need to trim a few threads, take a few pictures, and pack them up. I'll let you know when the pictures are posted so you can see your blocks. All of the blocks are now in quilt tops. I'm so happy!
So, my finishes for the month were these:
1. thread box
2. project improv tops
3. jon's graduation quilt
4. heart baby quilt
5. juicy jungle baby quilt
6. aj's quilt
7. katie's graduation gift
8. 3 virtual quilting bee blocks
Eight for me! Not as many completed quilts as I wanted, but I'm happy. I can't wait to hear how you did.
I'll try and get back this week with the winner of the challenge as soon as I can. I'm going to take some time off to try to finish moving. I've got some precious cargo to get to the other house and it's going to take some time to get organized so I can get sewing again.
Thanks for Springing to Finish with me. It's been a blast!
Cute cabinet. Our local antique store has a zillion yardsticks. Love the sayings. Now I'm going to have to pay attention to them. I think somehow I missed you were moving. Good luck. Now you have a serious stash of Flea Market Fancy.
ReplyDeletethat sewing cabinet is so cute. I adore it!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for spring to finish, you got me working harder than usual, and totally motivated.
I managed to finish;
leo's rocket quilt
pillow to match the rocket quilt
lap quilt in look and learn and wee play fabrics
stacked coins quilt for my friend's daughter's birthday
8 quilting bee blocks
1 doll quilt
a set of matching coaters to go with the doll quilt
It really has been a blast!
Good luck with the move!
Wow, you were a busy girl!! I love the cabinet and the fabrics are great! I can't wait to get the PI quilts to quilt up. The last 3 that we quilted will probably be sent back to you tomorrow. They look great! My spring to finish went well. Thanks for the encouragement!
ReplyDeleteWork got in the way this month -- only two for me!
ReplyDeleteI love your cabinet! It is the best! Wow you were really busy. The quilts are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome cabinet! I love it!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the cabinet. I wish my dad could whip up a thread cabinet for me!
ReplyDeleteWow! You definitely got alot done in one month! The sewing cabinet is darling. Good luck with your move.

2 x virtual bee blocks
2 x frilly cushion covers
1 x crazy nine patch cushion cover
2 x crinoline lady pillowcases

Wow! You have been productive! I finished two baby quilts. I came thisclose to finishing my duvet cover. I guess I will count the coaster set I made yesterday as a housewarming gift. I made four coasters but I only count that as one finish. So I'm in for 3.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the extra motivation!
ReplyDeleteI finished:
2 skirts (planned and cut in March!)
a skirt and dress for my niece
2 pairs of shorts for my nephew
a tiered skirt for a friend
and....
a quilt top that I start way back in January 2008! No that's not a typo, that was my first quilt and I thought haphazardly cutting and having little respect for exact seam allowances would be OK. Not for a rail fence!
Great cabinet. Thanks for all your inspiration. I have a few finishes this month. Bound the wedding quilt and sent it off to the bride. 1 pillow to match. 1 tote bag and 3 small cell phone holders that turned out much better than I thought they would.
ReplyDeleteOh I have to make a thread cabinet!!! That is so cute. I love the improv quilts, again wonderful!! Thank you so much for hosting this event, even if I only got one done, it was one that would have stayed in the closet for a very long time. thank you and good luck with the move!
ReplyDeleteI love that thread cabinet! It's great!
ReplyDeleteMy finishes:
1. Birdie Sling
2. Placemat set 1
3. Placemat set 2

I was able to finish three projects this month. 2 baby quilts and one pillow case. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation.
ReplyDeleteGreat cabinet. The neatly folded fabric...ah I can only hope!
I only had 2 finishes. I had planned on a lot more! My excuse is morning sickness, which tends to last all day.
ReplyDeleteGreat cabinet! Good luck with the move.
ReplyDeleteI didn't do as much as I wanted but here goes:
1. 2 skirts
2. 1 pillow cover
3. 1 gardening apron
Cute thread cabinet and with all the reused materials it's "green" too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the "Spring Finish" motivation. I got two quilts quilted this month and I'm sure I'd have put them off if I hadn't been pushed by the challenge.
For all those who apologized having "only" two finishes, remember "to Quilt (or craft) is human, to finish (no matter how many) is divine!
First, I Love those inprov quilts they are so fabulous! I was so happy you extended another month!! I did quite well as some of mine were very large quilts! I got finished:
ReplyDelete1. Taupe Tumbler quilt, an older bom from 2006!
2. Four Seasons stitchery Quilt recent bom.
3. Patriotic July 4th Quilt.
4. Mini Easter Bunny quilt.
So that's 4 official finishes and 2 more blocks for my ABC sampler quilt, plus a doll quilt top that I won't count. A very good month for me!
What a terrific cabinet, the yard stitcks really give it a great finish.
ReplyDeleteMy finishes for May were.

- a quilted heating pad cover in pink, green, blue and Hello Kitty fabric
- and a quilt top for another wedding gift in purple, black and white
Thank you for the inspiration to finish. I love the spool box. It made me a bit teary because this is the kind of thing my Dad use to do. It bought back memories of all the woodworking projects Dad made for me with love.
ReplyDeleteLove Love Love the thread cabinet!!! Best wishes with the move.
ReplyDeleteyour thread cabinet is darling! I love the yardstick edging.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like I have 7 finishes for May...and lots more on the way for June. I'm trying to finish things rather than acquire things and it seems to be working for me :)

Thank you so much for doing this just so I'd get up and finish some binding on some quilts!
ReplyDeleteI have 3.5 quilt finishes:
-1 comfort quilt for friend going through surgery for cancer (of course, this HAD to be done this month but still counts)
-2 charity baby quilts that I started 2 years ago. And they're easy! Sheesh!
-0.5: half-finished putting the binding on a little wall quilt for me. Just couldn't finish it yesterday, but I did get started on it which is a HUGE accomplishment!
I did some non-quilty things too, but I won't count those:
*2 dresses for my girls
*1 birthday gift (matching cards) for 2-year-old
Your quilts are wonderful. I love the color choices. And your thread cabinet in great too. So nice to have people who will help you make stuff like that!

ReplyDeleteThe cabinet is so pretty. My husband and his grandfather built me a cabinet many years ago before I started sewing/quilting. Now it's in my sewing room, and I love it.
I only finished one thing in the challenge, but I had hoped to finish more. If you include getting flower beds completed, having 3 garage sales, and the garden planted, then I got more stuff done. However, on the sewing/quilting front I finished a monogrammed pillow to sit in the rocking chair on my front porch.
Thanks for motivating us to finish something.
Whew, Thankfully spring to finish is over because I have been working hard. This month, I finished
ReplyDelete1 mini quilt

3 necklaces!
That is 13 plus the 3 necklaces! Thanks for the encouragement. It is so nice seeing an emptier project bin.
I'm not sure the last comment went thru - so I'll try again!

I finished my nieces tutu for her birthday, I crocheted myself a new pair of slippers, I finished my daughter's pregnancy journal (she's only 8 months old!) and I cleaned my fish tank, which hadn't been done since before I got pregnant, so over a year! So while none of them are sewing related (some on my list are but I didn't get to those ones) I am really glad I got these ones done, and this was a great kick in the butt to get some long awaited tasks finished.
