Joy In The New Year

Ok, so I can't do this alone. It's always better to have a little help from your friends and many of you have emailed and asked for a UFO challenge, so let's do it together. The goal is to have the UFO's that are lurking in your closet, drawers, tubs, cubbies finished by the start of the new year. Wouldn't it be great to start 2010 with an empty closet?

So the 'Joy in the New Year' challenge starts today.

To join in, here's what you need to do. Take an inventory. Count your UFO's as of today. Come back and leave a comment letting me know you're in and how many UFO's you have. It's up to you what you want to count. I'm counting my unfinished tops...not those that are still being pieced. I know they are technically UFO's, but my priority is to get those tops finished.

Of course there will be a prize. I'll make something for the winner. If you'd like to donate a prize, drop me an email. An empty UFO closet is a big deal and we should have lots of gifts to give. Maybe even multiple winners!

Here's how you can win. On January 1, come back and leave a comment on how many of your UFO's you've finished. You get an entry for each one. If you finish all that you counted today, you double your entries. For example, if you have ten UFO's and finish all ten, that's 20 entries. How fun is that?

Now, grab the button and link back to this post. Spread the word and encourage others to join in. Even if you have one finish, that's one UFO done and out of the way!

OK, folks we have two months from today. I know the holiday season is upon us, but we can do this! Let's get started and encourage each other. I'm off to count my UFOs.

EDITED TO ADD: I've had some pretty cool prize donations...I'll announce those in a few days...but trust me...they're GOOD!

  1. Including all my ideas that I have fabric for, I have over 20 UFOs. However, I have picked 10 WIPs that are in various stages of completion that I would like to finish by the end of the year. So put me down for 10 for the contest. I will blog about my list and hopefully can keep myself accountable that way.

  2. I'd love to join but for the next 5wks I'll be quilting Christmas gifts. I've spent the last 2 days making things for the high school band bingo fund raiser.

good luck to all who join.

  3. I love your idea and would love to participate but I don't know what the next two months hold for me. You are a great blogging friend but life is sort of busy for me at the moment.

  4. I have 14 UFOs at the moment. That's what's in the list on my blog, at least. I'm hoping to get more than 14 things done by the end of the year, though, because there are some unstarted quilts I have in mind, too. And two babies coming!

  5. Wow, this is great, i so need some encouragement to get my WIP's finished. :-D

  6. Oh Jackie count me in on this one! I have over two dozen unfinished projects written down on a list that haunt me daily. I will add the button to my site and post about it this week. Can't wait to get started tonight :)

    ReplyDelete
  7. I have five UFO's that are officially ready to be sandwiched, 2 of them need backings chosen.

If I could get those done before 2010, I'd be a VERY happy camper.

    Count me in.

  8. This is SEW tempting...I have a 2 week vacation coming up at end of November that will involve absolutely NO quilting (deal with hubby, he leaves his Blackberry at home and I leave my needle, too). I think I could get two of my immense UFO pile done before Christmas inbetween making pressies. So, Jacquie please put me down for 2. I'll post this week.

  9. I'm in!
I didn't even have to count because I counted on Thursday. Coincendence...
I have 12 but some of those are long term projects, so let's say 5 that can realistically be done by the New Year.

  10. Very fun idea Jacquie, I'm afraid to count mine! I'll bring some prizes: 5 $20 gift certificates to Pink Chalk Fabrics.

No official entry for me but I'll be cheering from the sidelines for everyone and secretly attempting to finish some projects up around here :)

  11. I am soo in Jacquie! I have my project improv quilt to finish before the end of the year, so I'm down for 1.
    Thanks for doing this!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yay! This is awesome! I'm counting 5 right now--one completed top to quilt, and 4 with tops in various stages of completion. This is the kick in the ass I need to get them done--they all have "due dates" of January 2 or earlier anyway! Thanks, Jacquie!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Do put me in, but I've got an extra challege as I'm in Japan for one month of November and leaving for the holiday on December 18th. That takes about 3 weeks out of my making.

I'm going for 5, but with three weeks out of the picture it could be tough.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Would love to do this. In between moving and making Christmas prezzies (lots of people are getting variations of your tea towel and potholder set!), I am going to strive to get 3 UFOs done.

    Thanks for lighting the fire!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm in. I need to get some finished that I've been putting off for a while.

I'm planning to finish 6. I'll blog about my list.

    ReplyDelete
  16. woot! I'm totally in. just what I needed. As of right now, I have 4 finished tops that need quilting, one quilt cut up ready to be pieced, and another quilt cut up and started piecing. I will count 4 UFOs right now for the finished tops (darn it--needed this post a few days ago--I quilted 2 baby quilts since then and finished my 10 hope chest quilts and sent them off--unquilted--couldn't afford the postage sending 10 quilts with batting). Thanks for hosting this!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well put me down for 5, 5 girls dresses that are in some stage of construction.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have 5 current UFOs that if they do not get finished they may make me crazy. I need all the incentive I can get, so thank you for this challenge!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I've lost count, mostly because I've stashed (more like hidden) them all over my house! Knowing me, I think five might be realistic. Which is better than none. Thanks for the inspiration, Jacquie!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm going to say I have five going right now. I'll tap my competitive spirit and get these things moving! Thanks Jacquie.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have two UFO's that I need to finish up. They're both quilt tops that need a backing sewn, then need to be quilted and bound. I don't know if I'll be able to finish them up because the month of November is going to be spent packing and moving. But I'm going to try!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have 4 quilts that REALLY need to get done! I'd love for them to be done by December so I'm definitely in!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm so glad you are doing this! I counted my WIPs last Friday. I had forgotten (at least) two. My total is 19. That's after I finished up one over the weekend. I doubt I'll get them all done, but never say never, right? I'm gonna give it my best shot!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm in! I have 6 UFO's, not counting my WIP's which I won't count. I'd love to have a clean "creative slate" to start the new year. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have 14 ufo's - but let's just count christmas ones (these are ones I started for last years christmas that I didn't finish or started this year early and got distracted and haven't finished them yet). That makes 7 for me - in addition to Christmas gifts I'll be busy. I'm not leaving my sewing room for the next 8 weeks. Wish me luck!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Please put me down for 4 UFO's. Which for me is a lot. Thanks for the challenge!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've got four in desperate need of attention! This is a great way to motivate :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ok, I really only have ONE UFO. It is a quilt I started two summers ago (right before I started working full time). I decided to hand quilt the whole thing. This is part of the problem. Hand quilting is slow. So, I'm motivated. Finish it by Christmas. Thanks for the challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm a new quilter and I have 4 UFO's. You are a great motivator!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I would be happy to get 15 of my UFO's done - mostly baby quilts. I will let you know how I do!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Count me in. I have 4 quilt tops that need to be quilted and 3 tops mostly done. It would be good to finish up all 7 of those projects!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Perfect timing on this challenge! I just cleaned out my sewing room and gathered all my unfinished tops together and matched them with backs and batting. I would love to have a clean slate to start the new year. I have 5 to quilt and hope to get them all done! Thanks Jacquie.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have seven. One that is pinned and ready for quilting, one top that has been pieced for years, one has all the blocks done, two are still in the piecing stage, and two with fabric bought and washed. Seven's a lucky number, isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have 7 WIP's that I would LOVE to have completed by the end of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  35. count me in with 5 UFOs.
    thanks for the motivation!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hmmm - I only have 4 right now. That is more than resonable to finish. Thanks for the motivation!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question, but would you tell me what a UFO is? UnFinished Object? That is my guess! I am a beginning quilter, so am still trying to figure out all the terminology :)

I do have several things that I am working on right now though!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have 5 now, 3 of them full size top quilt, so this will be a chanllenge, Thanks for the motivation!! count me in.
    Ale

    ReplyDelete
  39. What fun! I've only been quilting for a couple of months and yet somehow, I've already accumulated UFOs.
    Taking stock:
1 Christmas quilt that BETTER be done by Christmas
1 flannel squirrel quilt (waiting on fabric)
    1 crazy placemat
    1 star quilt

I'm listing them here so that I can come back and know what I said I was going to finish.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't have any that are pieced, but I'm guilty of buying kits with the intention of making them for gifts or whatever, and never actually making them. So I'm counting them...they include a quilt for my camper, my friends baby, one for my daughter (bought the material before she was born, and she's 13 months old!!). I also want to make my son a blanket to fit his bed, as he uses a bunch of throw blankets right now, toddler bedding is so hard to find! So I guess that puts me at 4. Thanks for the challenge, this helped me get so many goals tackled last time!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Put me down for four. I don't have a blog... Hope I don't have to start one before 2010 as well, because that would be five U.F.O.s!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have six that I would really like to finish up. This may give me the boost to get going on them. Thanks for hosting this.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm in! My UFOs for this challenge: Christmas Doves quilt, pinwheel Recess quilt, watercolor (aka insane) quilt, Figgy Pudding Christmas quilt, super secret can't say more quilt, and red/blue/tan/gold scrap quilt. Put me down for 6. :D

    ReplyDelete
  44. I've got 6 that I would like to finish by the New Year:

    1. the Kalka quilt
    2. the itajime value quilt
    3. the low volume quilt
    4. the green wedding present
    5. the too cold for a picnic quilt
    6. the fraction quilt

let's just see how that goes!!

    Rossie

p.s. my dog wants your dog to know that his daily hike looks like paradise!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Put me down for five and I'll include a quilted journal for a prize.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Perfect timing! I've been saying I have to tackle UFOs between starting new projects, and this just might be the way for me to stay motivated to do that. Besides. if I get some of these finished, they'll make great Christmas presents! While there are more, 7 will be my number to aim for!

    ReplyDelete
  47. How about round 2 after Christmas... to many Christmas gifts until then... uFos on old for me but this is a great idea!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Count me in! I'm going to say 5 UFOs. A couple are actually gifts due LAST summer! I'll work on those first, I think. Thanks, Jacquie. You are a UFO inspiration! -- michele

    ReplyDelete
  49. Count me in for 6 UFOs. My girls, their cousins and my Dad a will thank you! :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Exactly what I needed! I'm in! Will blog about it tonight... I think I can count at least 4 UFO I want to FINISH! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  51. You do so much for so many! I have one very special UFO I know I can finish before the new year. I have several but only 1 I've been really wanting to finish piecing. Thanks for the encouragement.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm only counting 6 UFO's. There is definitely more than that lurking around. But I'd be happy to see 6 finished in the next 2 months!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Thank you for organizing this group effort. My husband always reminds me that we are good for each other because I am good at starting projects and he is good at finishing them. Unfortunately he doesn't sew. I can't decide what constitutes a UFO, does buying the fabric and having the plan count or just once you start to cut? I am going to count the projects that I have already started cutting. I have 3 quilts, and 4 other projects all in some phase of being unfinished. So, put me down for 7 total. Thank you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm in again! I have 8 WIPs.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I just happened upon your blog today and was delighted to discover your UFO Challenge. Just what I need since I have over 20 UFO.I work best with a deadline. To be realistic, put me down for 7. The one I need to finish before Christmas, I have barely begun and I promised my niece I would make it for her over a yr ago. Thank you so much for the inspiration and encouragement.

    ReplyDelete
  56. While I have many many UFOs, I'm only going to count one, because I *HAVE* to get this finished. It's been in the works for 5 years! MUST finish.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I officially have 5 big projects to finish, but I haven't even started making my Christmas gifts. It all seems impossible right now.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think I have more than I can count but only a couple are near the quilting stage. I am impossibly busy right now but I would love to be in. So I will let you know how many I get done starting with the wonky log cabin from the Old Red Barn Quilt Along on Flickr. Wish me luck. Thanks for the inspiration.

    ReplyDelete
  59. This is a great idea--UFO Challenge! I have 4 quilts to quilt and bind for Christmas presents and 2 patriotic quilts to do, also. So, that makes 6 altogether. I'd really love to get these patriotic quilts finished!
I don't have a blog, but I'll keep checking yours.

    ReplyDelete
  60. What fun! I have three UFOs, including one that hasn't even been cut out yet - but it's been sitting around taunting me for months. So, put me down for three quilts. I have a couple of (well, three) knitting projects, too. Do those count?

    ReplyDelete
  61. well, just a quick jot down of what i have cut or in progress and such. i have 16. wow, i just keep adding to the list and not finishing anything. maybe this will give me a good kick in the pants.

    ReplyDelete
  62. You should've had people count the UFOs on Halloween. This is scary! I can't quite get into my closet to search so I'm going off of memory. I have 3 tops ready for sandwiching and binding, 2 tops cut that are partially pieced and 1 quilt for Christmas to do completely. And I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Okay, now I am ready to play!

I'd like to finish the following-

    three baby quilts
    two pillows
    one Christmas table runner

It isn't too much, but I am still new at this :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm in! My UFOs are definitely wearing me down and I'll have lots of time in December to catch up with things.

I've got 14 UFOs...two table runners, 4 quilts, two sweaters, a scarf, three pairs of pajama pants, curtains, and a pincushion.

It will feel great to finish these up!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I've got an even dozen to finish by the end of the year. Half are intended as presents so that would be great to get them done before the holidays.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have two WIPs that I need to finish before year end. One is a Chirstmas gift and the other is a wedding gift for a January 2nd wedding. This motivation helps a lot! I don't want to give IOUs for gifts:)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I was just thinking about getting some UFO's done and this will maybe help get my butt in gear!
Count me in for six! I will post about it!

    ReplyDelete
  68. OK, now if I could really get the UFO's finished by the end of the year, I would be very happy!
    I have:
    1. Verandah View stitchery quilt
    2. Once upon a time stitchery quilt
    3. 12 Days of Christmas quilt
    4. Fall quilt
    5. Blue Block quilt
I have one other quilt lying here for 10 years or so, which I should add, but I know I won't finish that one. Too much figuring out.

    Thank you for organizing this!!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I just love quilters...always trying to make things fun!
I have 5 various quilts staring me down. I think I can take them. Let you know how it all goes down.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Ugh - that would be three quilts, and one baby burp blanket. Technically I haven't cut the material for the skirt OR the apron, but I do want them finished by christmas. So gosh, 6. Put me in for 6.

    ReplyDelete
  71. What a great idea! I'm really torn between trying to finish some projects and trying to make Christmas gifts for people, but what the heck - I'm going to submit 4 UFO's. Thanks for the motivation!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Oh, I'm so in. I can think of 4 off the top of my head that I want to finish, but lets put me down for 6 in hopes I get a little more efficient!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Ok I can't believe I am saying this but I have eight to finish -some big and some small. Put me down for eight. Thanks for doing this.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Do you have to be a blogger to enter this challenge?

    ReplyDelete
  75. meg,
you don't have to be a blogger. you just need to give me some way to contact you when you come back on Jan 1 to report your progress. hope you can join us!

    ReplyDelete
  76. oh wow! I was too chicken to join last time but...well, I have 8...
    ugh...

    ReplyDelete
  77. I'm much more of a spinner and knitter than a quilter (but I love to see the quilts you make) so I don't have sewing so much as spinning and knitting. So far the count is two spinning projects and 5 knitting projects. I've decided this year that everyone is getting jam and/or cookies for gifts so all my prezzies should be baked in a day with the rest of the time devoted to clearing out UFOs.

    ReplyDelete
  78. i'm in. this is just the kick in the pants i need, although i'm already concerned about getting my christmas pile finished. i have four UFOs, which isn't a lot, but it's getting kind of desperate, considering they're time sensitive things like baby and wedding quilts...

    ReplyDelete
  79. Count me in for 4 projects unfinished as of now - boychild quilt, wallhanging for living room, window shades for girlchild, window shades for boychild. How could I be so far behind when I'm such a quilting neophyte?!?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Jacquie, Jacquie, Jacquie, I have 70 UFOs just in my sewing room, not counting what's in my garage. There's no way I can finish them all by the first of the year, but I'm going to give 15 a shot. That would be major progress. Can I do that? Just pick a random number? Clearly, I need help finishing stuff. = )

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm not going to go count, because that would make me sad. I'm going to finish piecing 5 tops. That's not a lot, but it seems like everything I make is king size! I'm also going to machine quilt 3 of my quilts. Gotta go!!! I have work to do.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Let's see: 4 tops that need to be quilted, and one top that is just a bunch of blocks. So I'd say 5 but realistically I'd just like to get those tops quilted and done!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Okay, I have six quilts that are pieced but are in various states of completion. So I am committing to quilt and bind 6 quilts before the New Year.

    ReplyDelete
  84. OK, I am in for 15 UFO's either finished or out of my house before the end of the year. I have been sorting through my flimsies with thoughts of selling some of the ones I am no longer in love with. I will admit it, I have more than 20 flimsies of various sizes here at my house. The longarmers tops are never quilted I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Off the top of my head I have 5 UFOs that are either tops or almost tops.

Let's see how many we can nail before new years day!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I'm in - and I agree with bearcreekquilter, the longarmer's tops are never quilted. With that said, I have had 10 of my own quilt tops waiting for me to get them on my machine for over six months. So, 10 by the end of the year!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Ok, ok, I'm in. I have so many UFOs there is no way I could finish them all by the end of the year. So I will just pick a handful that I might actually get to. So my grand total is 13. Wish me luck!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Incentive! exactly what I need. I have 3 WIPs that I'd trip head over heels about to complete.

I love reading about Bruno, too. What cute photos:)

    ReplyDelete
  89. This sounds like a fun. I happen to have just made my list of things I need to get finished up for Christmas. 12 UFO's I will blog about them after work today.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I have about 10 ufo's which a couple of them are probably wip. I want to at least get a few of them finished for this challenge.

My problem if anyone can help. I want to learn how to "grab the button" for my blog, and I can't figure it out. Help anyone, email me. thanks

  91. My WIP count is 7:

*3 that I think are reasonable to complete
*2 'stretch' goals that I'd really, really like to finish before 2010
*2 keep-dreaming-that-you'll-get-to-these-don't-forget-Christmas-gifts, but what the heck stick 'em on your list anyways

And of course, there are more lurking in the shadows but they'll have to wait for another year.

    Thanks for the challenge!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Okay, I'm going with just completed tops too...otherwise the list would be so big I'd get so overwhelmed I wouldn't even start!
    -2 bindings to finish
    -1 to quilt, bind
    -1 to baste, quilt, bind
    -1 back, baste, quilt, bind

    I think I can....I think I can...

    ReplyDelete
  93. This is great! I have 4 UFO's that I carted from CA to TX that have sat in boxes for 6 years, and 3 table runners that I need to sandwich quilt and bind. If I can get these done and keep up with the quilt along I joined I will be happy, happy, happy...

    ReplyDelete
  94. This is a great idea. I've got 2 quilts to finish as well as 1 more in the works for Craft Hope/Margaret's Hope Chest (Nov 15 deadline, ahh!). I'd also like to send a couple warm, fleecy scarves to MHC. I'm not counting the unpieced, only in my mind UFOs or the gifts I need to make, it's too overwhelming! But this is a great incentive.

    ReplyDelete
  95. This is a great challenge. I have 5 that I need to finish. Crossing fingers that I can find the time to do this.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Oh my goodness I have so many of them. I won't count the WIPs that are really just fabric set aside for a project. And I'm not sure that I really want to finish a couple of them so that leaves me with a total of 10 that I'll strive to finish. Just last month I finished 2 WIPs and it felt fantastic to get them done. Thanks for hosting this challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I have 6 ufo's to complete, actually there are more like you but they are umpieced, uncut etc. So hopefully theyll all be done by New Year. Karen xx

    ReplyDelete
  98. yipes! please count me in, too! i have (1) quilt to bind, (1) quilt to get quilted, (1) quilt to make for christmas, (1) afghan to finish and many, many little crochet gifts i am working on...so put me down for (15)...i need all the encouragement/inspiration i can get! thank you, jacquie! ☺

    ReplyDelete
  99. I am going with 14! EEEEK, in my head it was 6 but then when I started writing it all down....14! Thanks for the inspiration and motivation, hello 2010 with no WIPS!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Count me in. I think I will try for 5 UFO's. I don't have too many but I can see if I keep going the same direction I am heading I will have more before I know it.

    Thanks for the motivation.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I will do my best to finish kids clothes and quilts. I would say 5 of each. Let's see how it goes! Thanks for encouraging this!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Okay, finally managed to sit down and count everything lol, in total I have about 10 WIP's. God knows if I will get them all done, but this is as good an incentive as any. Thanks again! :-D

    ReplyDelete
  103. OK I finally counted mine - 13 quilts - man that sounds bad! But I'll try and see how many I can get done...thanks for this!

    ReplyDelete
  104. What a great idea! Count me in!! I have 10 that I would like to complete! With the holidays here I am not sure how many of those will get done, but at least with this challenge I will have more motivation to actually complete them!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. O.K. I'm in! I've got 6 UFO's. They all need to be quilted and I'm pretty sure that my money won't stretch that far, but it's good to have some motivation. Count me in for 6!

    ReplyDelete
  106. what a great idea, i too can use the encouragement! so let me see...
    2 quilts
    4 doll quilts
    2 pillows
    2 market bags
okay, so that would be 10, which is going to be my goal. i better get off the computer and get sewing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  107. Ok I'm in. Only have 4 UFO's...and I just began quilting in Julyt of this year:) 2 need to be quilted and the other 2 need backs and quilting. Hopefully, this'll motivate me to get them done in a reasonable amount of time.

  108. I did go and count, but I'm NOT telling the number! No way!
I AM committing to finishing one per week. . . .that's NINE. [About 25% of the total.]

I'm going to hurry up and get three to my LA quilter and hopw she gets them back before time's up. I hope the rest are small enough for me to quilt them myself.
So if you are expecting anything from me [Secret Sister!], you know it's going to be a UFO.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Okay - I'm taking a deep breath and getting involved -
I'd have to count WIP's also - and i've never actually done the quilting part - so this may never happen!

    I will give a total of 4 -
1 i'm in the midst of
2 i'd like to give for x-mas gifts
1 for myself that is at the bottom of the list!

    ReplyDelete
  110. thanks for the motivation! i have 2, and it would be so fun to finish them! maybe this will be the push i need!!

    ReplyDelete
  111. I have 14. I know I won't get to all of them...but if I could get nine finished, I would be so HAPPY! Thanks for the motivation!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Trying to be realistic I have 8 WIPs that I would love to finish. I just know that I'll make much better progress jumping on your bandwagon. Thanks, Jacquie!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Usually I am a lurker around here, but I have to jump on this wagon! O.K., so I am in....for (GULP!) an even dozen on my list (note, there ARE more, that is what the list is...LOL)Trying to make it doable! Good luck ladies, I can't wait to hear about everyone's progress!Jaquie, I do love reading your blog...thanks for doing it!

    ReplyDelete
  114. I'm up to the challenge and with any hope I can do it. I'm declaring 15 projects but trust me there are many more. 15 would be a great start. Quilts and Cross Stitch.

    ReplyDelete
  115. i have more than i want to admit. i'll say that i have 14 that i'd like to try & finish... a big goal.. but i'm up for it!

    ReplyDelete
  116. O.K. so this was an eye opener! LOL. But just what I need! I just went through my closet and I have 12 I need to finish! 12! Where did they all come from?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Wow- great challenge.
I'm going to count 11 WIP.
2 tops to quilt, 8 to complete piecing, then quilting, etc, and
1 that hasn't been started but will be a christmas present so must get done.

    ReplyDelete
  118. So I'm thinking I have 10 UFOs in my sewing closet. I have a major quilt that all I have to do is bind that's been in there for a few years. I don't know what I'm waiting on with that. My dad will be super happy when it's finished though! Christmas is my deadline for that one! The rest will come in November I hope!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Count me in for 5. It would be nice to finally get them done. I love challenges. It sure helps me to get things done.

    ReplyDelete
  120. okay, I'm proud to say that after 2 years I have gotten all the way down to 4 UFOs of my own and 2 that I inherited. I'm not counting hers though so put me down for 4. Although if I get one finished plus all the Christmas presents that's much more reasonable goal seeing as how I hand quilt and all my UFOs still have piecing to do

    ReplyDelete
  121. Count me in! 10 WIP's - 8 are quilty, 2 are cross stitch! I need all the motivation and encouragement I can get!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Let's see, I've got:
    - 4 Project Linus tops
    - 2 Old Red Barn quilt-along tops
    - one mini quilt cut out
    - one gift quilt cut out

So, put me down for 8. I will be SO ecstatic if I finish all those in 2 months!

    ReplyDelete
  123. I have 8 projects that I would like to have done by the end of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Ok, I'm in with an even dozen, that's 12 project waiting dejectedly to be finished and sent on their way!

    ReplyDelete
  125. I'm totally joining. I need to finish a halloween quilt, a neptune quilt, my wedding quilt and a quilt for my father in law for xmas! woo hoo!!! So a grand total of 4 quilts! I'm crossing my fingers!

    ReplyDelete
  126. I'm in for 7! I'll blog it as I go along...

    ReplyDelete
  127. I'm going count 4 UFOs for this challenge. 2 tops to finish binding, sashing/quilting/binding the mod quilt sampler, and finishing a batik quilt that I've only just begun. thanks for the gentle push!

    ReplyDelete
  128. I am in for 4 projects. I just completed 3 baby quilts this week, so I could count them, except I hadn't yet read your challenge beforehand.

    So I'll stick with 4.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I counted up six! Including the very first quilt I am making to keep for myself!

    ReplyDelete
  130. I actually started a list of projects that I want to accomplish 8-2-09...there were 12, I finished 2 and added 3. Many of these are in the design stage, so for this challenge I will commit to 3. 1)Finishing the hand quilted Hawaiian Coral Reef (which has already eaten over 300 yards of hand quilting thread). 2)Helping my daughter machine quilt her purple quilt 3)Finish hand appliqueing the Lupines on my Teton National Park block.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Having a bit of a problem to link my blog to yours Jacquie, I state this way that I will try to finish 12 UFO's (6 quilts and 6 garment pieces). I really need to clean up my working and "brain" space.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I would love to take part too. Please count me in for two UFO's. This is just the motivation I need to get them finished - starting off fresh in the New Year would be wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  133. What a fab idea! Just the inspiration I need to turn out the cupboards. Put me down for 6, I know there are more lurking but these 6 are the ones that look at me crossly each time I take new fabric out of the cupboard in a frenzy of new ideas! Your time has come little un-loved UFOs!

    ReplyDelete
  134. If it is not too late I would love to participate in this. I need to clean up some of my UFO's.
Please put me down for 7.
    Thanks for your inspiration.

  135. Yay! This sounds like a GREAT idea! I have 10 UFO's that I *will* finish before the year is over! Thanks for the challenge :)

    ReplyDelete
  137. Count me in for 8 projects!

    http://mnquiltaholic.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  138. I probably have about 20 UFOs lurking around, but put me down for finishing 8, which are the number of tops to be layered and quilted. The others are still in loose block stage, so if they get some love, that would be icing on the cake!

    ReplyDelete
  139. Count me in. I have many UFO´s, but I will be able to finish only one. But hey, that is better than nothing!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Put me down for 9. Gotta get to work now ...

Thanks for the kick in the pants!!

    ReplyDelete
  141. if I could get 5 done i would be more than thrilled!

    ReplyDelete
  142. I have 8 UFO I would like to get finished. I so have crafters A.D.D. I don't know if I can finish those before I start another project. I have to try, I just finished quilting 7 quilts and that was a wonderful feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I've been debating on weather or not to do this, I think I was scared to count all the UFO's I have. I've decided it is better to maybe get one UFO done rather than none at all. So count me in, I'm counting 9 UFO's (that I can think of) that need to get finished.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Omg, so many UFO's:) I have at least 7 I want to finish before the new year - and how many more hidden through my house? Let's not talk about that!

    ReplyDelete
  145. I've been doing a lot of UFO's this year, as it was my new year's resolution last January to finish old projects. Not only did I finish the 4 quilts that had been languishing for up to 10 years, but I made (from scratch) 5+ new projects (finished!) too. I still have ONE really big project that I want to have finished by the end of the year. This project is near and dear to me. It was a quilt that I designed and pieced nearly 10 years ago, as part of my thesis project in college. Now I have a young son and I am determined to finish this queen sized quilt to adorn his bed. I am hand quilting it (stippling), so I will be thrilled if it is done by the end of the year. Put me down for one. But it is a big one.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Okay, this looks like a great idea. Off to get my list together.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Wow... I'm all in with my 13. I had no idea there were that many unfinished projects just laying around. I can't wait! Thanks for the motivation!

    ReplyDelete
  148. I try not to even start projects because I know they'll become UFOs! However, I can think of 3 right off the top of my head. I'm afraid to go look more thoroughly. I'm in and I'm going to get started this weekend! Thanks for the motivation!

    ReplyDelete
  149. okay....i can do this. i have counted and it is hard but i have 17 right now. how could this happen? almost all of them are gifts for the holidays but i had no idea it was that many.8 quilts in various stages, 7 bags and one jedi warrior sith robe out of wool (i know) who would think. i am in. wish me luck.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Ok count me in too. I have 5.

    a lap quilt
    a Christmas quilt
    quilt for my son
    quilt for my daughter
    matching wall hanging for daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Hopefully this will be the motivation I need - I love a finished project, but have more fun starting them. Is this a common problem in the fabric world? Count me in for 5 UFO - and I just started quilting within the year. LOVE IT! Thanks for sharing.

  152. this is perfect...I'm making a quilt for all of my nieces and nephews...that's 6...and I've only completed 1....WHY only 1....cuz I start others and then say to myself I can't finish these others until I finish the ones for my nieces and nephews....SO altogether I have 9...hopefully I contain myself from starting any others.

    ReplyDelete
  153. OH yes, thank you so much Jacquie! I have been trying to figure out how many UFO's I have all week. The list kept growing!

Count me in for 14 - I already finished one yesterday! Will be blogging about this for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  154. P.S. I host a sew and tell on Fridays - It might be a fun place for people to show off their progress!

    ReplyDelete
  155. Last night I pulled out my to be completed box, for my 5 UFO...In my attempt to, well, not hide but to "devert my husband's attention" I had wrapped up 5 additonal projects last year (or maybe two years ago) inside an unfinished blanket. SO I have to change my UFO count to 10. Thank goodness they are not all king size projects. I can't wait to empty this box (just so I can use the box for a new fabric stash I keep promising myself!) Got to get to it...

    ReplyDelete
  156. O.K. I'm in. What fun. I have 8 that I would like to finish before January. WOW! that is saying alot to get them done. I'll throw in some embelllishments for the prize if you would like. Thanks for the challenge.
    Better get to work now!

    ReplyDelete
  157. Ok, I am in! I have been thinking about it, and I have figured out that I have 10!! A few of them have only a little left (buttons, button holes, binding, etc.) but others have a lot! So, here's hopeing that I can check off all 10- I will keep track on my blog. Thanks for doing this. I really had fun with Spring to finish 1 AND 2. I am going to get started on some UFO's now!

    ReplyDelete
  158. I am counting 5 UFO's to be done by the new year.

    *Cotton Blossom mother quilt

    Now to WORK!

  159. Awesome idea! I have 4 UFO's. I can't wait to get them done so I can start on something fresh next year. Thanks for motivating all of us:)

    ReplyDelete
  160. Okay, I'm joining this challenge. I have 7 UFO's on my list. This is just the incentive I need to get these done. I don't have any swaps left to do....so now's the time to get these done. I've put a list of my UFO's on the sidebar of my blog. Thanks again for helping get these done.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I've got 17 on my list so far, but would be thrilled to finish just 4 of them.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I love the motivation and accountability of this! I have 6 that I want done, but that is hardly the list. Thanks so much for all of the inspiration, I'll be posting on my blog next week about it.

    ReplyDelete
  163. This is a great idea. I would like to sign my self up for 2 doll quilts
    1 wallhanging
    4 regular tops
I can do it, thanks for the gentle push!

    ReplyDelete
  164. I have 13 UFOs that I saw. Let's see if I can get my Mojo back!

    ReplyDelete
  165. In October, I thought it would be great to start the new year with fresh ideas. This motivated me to tally up my unfinished projects and 3 of them are already done. So, I am entering 4 unfinished quilt tops in this challenge. (1 twin size quilt; 3 wallhanging quilts)

    ReplyDelete
  166. I've only got two WIPs to report, but I would love to be included!

Count me in. I have about 6 UFO's to finish before the new year. Some are started, some are just only cut, some need to be quilted, etc.
This is such a great idea! I am way more motivated to get things done when I have a time crunch! Today I will be quilting!! YAH!

    ReplyDelete
  179. Okay, Miss Jacquie. . .I'm in! I have 5 tops which need to be quilted, 3 which just need binding, 1 which is ready to be pieced and 5 friendship bags to finish. I think I'll post a list to my blog to help keep me motivated~I'm feeling like I need hip waders!

    ReplyDelete
  181. I have a room full of UFO's! let's see if I can finish 20... a lot of them are simple kids things, that should go fast, IF I don't start new ones in the meantime.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Well..thanks for the encouragement. Three machined tops finished, plus four promised child's garments, plus one hand pieced border. Phew, I've said it and now I've got work to do too. The photo albums can wait until next decade.

    ReplyDelete
  187. I have 2 UFO's, well 2 USO's (un-started objects) because I haven't started them yet. Unlike my other current projects, neither of these have hard deadlines so they're in danger of never being started, let alone completed. So this challenge is perfect for me - it'll give me reason to get them done :)

    ReplyDelete
  188. Hi Jacquie,
Count me in please, I have 3 for sure needing to get finished for Christmas. I've been on vacation so I have to get back into sewing.

Each quilt is made with their personality and interests in mind. Their ages range fro 2 years old to 20 years old. I needed this challenge. I have two other gift quilts in the works now.
