I love cutting and sewing with freedom and abandon. I finished 10 blocks of 'Feeling Blue' in my two hours. It has a quiet, soothing, blue feeling.
Nova emailed me last week to let me know that she had finished her 'deer' quilt. She contacted me awhile ago and asked if it would be ok if she made a quilt inspired by the quilt made by me and my common threads buddies, Jon's graduation quilt. Of course I said yes. The reason I wanted to post about Nova's quilt is because it is a wonderful example of how someone can be inspired by a quilt and still not make a copy. You can definitely see the connection between the two quilts, but Nova has done special things to make the quilt her own. On top of that she acknowledged her inspiration. I was so proud to see her gorgeous work and so happy to know that the recipient loved the quilt. It's people like Nova (and there have been others too) who make me happy to share my work. Nova, you made my day in more ways than one. Thank you.
I hope your mom is healing quickly and back to feeling well soon. I too may have some "snowed in time" to sew tomorrow. We are expecting 12 inches by morning here in WI. I would miss work, but think of an entire day of unexpected sewing time! Love the new "blue" quilt.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to your Mom, hope she is doing better.
ReplyDeleteBoth quilts are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.
Hope your mom continues to improve. Your Feeling Blue quilt is looking wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts and prayers for your mum.
ReplyDeleteFeeling Blue is going to be gorgeous!
Thinking of you and your mom. Rough times.
ReplyDeleteThank-you for sharing Nova's quilt and your comments. That indeed is a perfect example of inspired by.
Blessings to you and your mom. I hope things work out well. I love your "Feeling Blue" quilt beginning. I wish I had thought of it. LOL (And I'm with Diane...I live in WI too and am expecting the 12 inches of snow.) UGH!!
ReplyDeleteInspiration to create something with our own touches is what makes a quilt unique. Very admirable that Nova gave credit where it's due. Feeling Blue is restful. Wishing you mom all the best.
ReplyDeleteJacquie,
ReplyDeleteI hope your mom is feeling better. We made three trips to the ER this past week ourselves so I know it can be very draining for you as well. So glad you were able to take a little time and do something you enjoy.
Also really glad you posted this. I have gone back to Jon's quilt time and time again because I love the look of that that quilt. My husband is after me to make a quilt for him and I really love the calmness of Jon's quilt. I'm new to quilting so I haven't worked up the courage to tackle something like this yet but hope to soon. I am glad people like you share your work so beginners like me can draw inspiration from them.
I am glad your mother is getting better! It is nice to just be sewing for yourself! It looks nice!
ReplyDeleteYou are a very inspirational person. I love what I learn here.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your mom. Glad to hear she is doing better. How are you doing?
Jacquie: I'm sorry your mom has been ill. Glad you were able to be with her and that she is on the upswing now. Those quilt blues are the good kind of blues to have!

ReplyDeleteI have to laugh at you setting a timer to sew.....
So glad to hear your mom is doing
ReplyDeletebetter and I'm sooo happy you could sneak some quiet 'bluesy'
quilting time for yourself...it helps put things right again!!
I loved Nova's quilt and I think very highly of her naming you as
her inspiration...such integrity
that is sometimes so lacking in others!!
Good to hear your mom is on the mend.
ReplyDeleteDo you really set a timer? Interesting idea.
Im loving that paula prass lately.. it has such a nice hand too.
the blocks are great and its so interesting how restrained your colors are lately. I think it maybe something I need to work on, limiting my palette. Reading your blog can be so inspiring and also a great way for me critique my work by looking at what your doing. Did that make any sense? Somehow I can see my own stuff better. Like your blog improves my eye. idk..
Novas quilt was quilt was great- thanks for sharing that.
:)
Best wishes to your mom - hopefully she'll be "right as rain" in no time! What an odd old expression...
ReplyDeleteNova's quilt certainly has your look to it - what a wonderful homage to your inspirations to all of us...
Hope you are doing ok Jacquie - thinking of you...
Hugs - Shari
Last December when my mother was in the hospital I would go to see her and come home and escape to my sewing room, turn the music up and zone out. It was such a stress reliever. I hope your mother will do well and get better. It is very difficult dealing with issues with older parents.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got a little quilting therapy and hope your mom feels better, soon. Take care of yourself.
