If There Is Going to be Joy in the New Year...

...i need to get my sewing butt in high gear! This quilt is 2/3 of the way quilted. I'm hoping for a finish later today and maybe another one basted and the quilting started. I know I haven't been much of a cheerleader or inspiration for the Joy in the New Year Challenge, but we still have time. We can get lots done in 4 days if we put our minds to it. We have until midnight on the 31st! I know some of you have been doing a great job...the rest of us have some catching up to do.
How are you doing?
(Remember you have to come back here and comment on my January 1st post to be eligible to win one of the great prizes. Instructions will be on my January 1 post!)

  1. I love what I see underneath that needle on the machine!! I hope you’ll be able to have some finishes in your New Year Challenge.

    I didn’t join, knowing I couldn’t manage...LOL!

  3. love that quilt you are working on - my kinda colours! I'm being somewhat productive - had 7 on my list, have completed 3, stand a good chance of getting two more done if I can just get off the computer and into the sewing room! Number would have been better, but I started and finished 2 new projects in the middle of it all!
    (Wow Michele - 26 finishes! I'm impressed!)

  4. Oy, not so much for me. I put down 10 projects and have only completed 2 so far. Perhaps within the next couple days I may be able to get 3 or 4 more done. Still short of the hoped for total. I guess that the thread will be flying in the studio tonight. :-)

  5. So far, so good - even with holiday madness in high gear! I put down 8 projects, and have 7 of them complete. The last one should be done either tonight or tomorrow (then maybe I can breathe...)

  6. I've finished four of the nine I had wanted to get done. I think I have hit a wall and have no more energy to keep going, so thanks for this little pick me up, I needed it.

  7. I said 5 and I have those finished. I would have had more, but I've run out of batting and can't get more til January.

Now I already have 2 UFOs for the new year....*S*

  9. 6 out of 7 finished, though not all of those are on my original list to be finished. I'm just telling myself ANY finish is a victory, right?

I hope it's been holiday cheer, or at least holiday peace, that's kept you from your sewing.

  11. I am so glad you did this challenge, Jacquie. I have realized that it doesn't take much to get these done because a lot of them are almost there. I admit I joined kicking and screaming but I have gotten into the groove and will probably continue getting UFOs done into the New Year. Thanks again!!

  14. I'm relieved to know I'm in such good company. I've finished quite a few projects since the start. Perhaps I would have accomplished more if I hadn't started a few new ones along the way. That being said, nothing beat the tears in my mom's eyes when I presented her with a quilt on Christmas morning. Since she gifted me my machine, it was the least I could do. Good luck to everyone.

  15. I've got 3 out of 6 done. I gave up. It was more fun to start a new project than fight with an old one. But I do intend to continue finishing on into January and however long it takes. There are definitely more than 6 UFO's sitting around... I just thought 6 sounded semi-reasonable. I refuse to fell guilty about it. ;)

  17. You've inspired me to really work on finishes. I went through my pile and I don't have a ton. It is so doable to get it all done in 2010. But I have quilts I want to start!

  18. I finished 1 of my 2. It was a really good finish, though, in time for Christmas and blogged about here:

  19. Hello! I've just recently color died some old vintage sheet pieces and when I get around to using them I can't wait to head back over here for inspiration and instruction - loved the painters tape idea!
Glad to hear your mom is doing well. The funny thing about having boys is that even without surgery they always find farting the most amazing thing! :)

  30. Umm. With maybe 5 big ones out there, I have started a sixth an easy knit cowl; it gives me the simple soft sympathy that I'm NOT getting from the hubby with my little patch of walking pneumonia. Will be happy if I finish 1 ;)

Seems like you realy wip out beautiful quilts! Fast!!! You're one of my new favorites!

  31. Ahhh...another mother(daughter, wife, sister, etc) going to the ends of the earth for her children (mom, husband, siblings, etc) what we'll do for our love ones ;0). I should finish one of my three. Be back tomorrow for final settling. And here I thought I was alone in failing to complete projects. Thanks for the push and opportunity for others to respond, I got a sense of sisterhood in the comments. Its nice to know you aren't alone in the world ha ha.
