Life has gotten in the way of time in the studio, but I have managed a little late night sewing and organizing.
These double pinwheel blocks have been hanging in my closet for maybe a year. I didn't like my original idea for them, but the other night I laid them out on the design wall, added some squares of the prints and had a top.
It's pretty ordinary the way it is, so I decided to make prairie points for the edges. I think the addition of these little beauties may turn it into something special.
The snow has changed our routine significantly. Trudging through the woods in the deep snow is tough on both of us. Bruno is wishing for spring. How about you?
the top looks lovely! Prarie points will really make it pop! Is the solid brown or black? I am doing the DQS8 on flickr, using flea market fancy and black, I love how it is turning out so far, I love it so much I am having to make a 2nd one for me to keep! Lovely quilt top you have there, as usual!
ReplyDeleteit's so pretty! those are great colors.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely ready for spring and so are my dogs!
ReplyDeleteIt's great! So often I see quilts with a lighter main color. The dark background of this quilt makes it even more stunning.
ReplyDeleteMy dog is feeling a bit antsy herself...
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see this all done... especially with the prairie points! A good idea methinks. :)
it looks great. It's a wonderful example of letting the fabric do the work here and not letting the piecing be too complicated. as for winter, I'm braced for three more months of it. what are the rest of you complaining about??!!?? ;)
ReplyDeleteI love pinwheels and they look great set against the dark fabric! I can't wait to see the finished product.
ReplyDeleteJennifer :)
No complaints from the pacific NW. This winter has been mild compared to last year. Just typical rainy, gray days. As I looked at the clock close to midnight, I contemplated getting up and sewing, but never would have gotten up on time this a.m!
ReplyDeleteFirst, Bruno is the cutest thing ever. . .are you tired of me saying so? And I love your pinwheels the colors are rich and vibrant. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI am SO wishing for spring. I feel like we've been cooped up forever. And I'm running out of fun things to do inside with 4 rowdy boys!
ReplyDeleteI am not wishing for Spring. I love that we have a real Winter here. Lots of people skate and the children are having so much fun.
ReplyDeleteSpring will be more fun after a real Winter. So come on Bruno!!!
Love those fabrics and colours and pinwheels!
I think those points really will make it special, especially the blue and black ones.
ReplyDeleteYour dog is playing with my oldest son's favorite toy! That exact red bull figures prominently in his childhood.
The pinwheel quilt is a beauty! I always love your fabric choices, Jacquie.
ReplyDeleteEverything you make is something special!
ReplyDeleteThat is SO beautiful!!! You have such an eye for color and fabric.
ReplyDeleteGasp! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes, I'm ready for Spring too.
You run in different circles than I do if you think that quilt is ordinary LOL! It's so cool -- positive proof that pinwheels look great in any color!
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric!!! the pattern too. Butch is hoping for spring too we have not had snow but lots of wind and rain not much fun for walking..........
ReplyDeleteWow! I love the brown with those bright colors. This quilt is one of my favorites! Tell Bruno my dog knows just how he feels. She's ready for spring too!
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who sees that the quilt matches Bruno and his toy?
ReplyDeleteYum against that dark background. Are the pinwheels 3-D? Abby stays out in the snow as long as possible, regardless of the depth and temp outside. So we tromp through the snow for our walks. It's a dog's life.
ReplyDeleteIf you read my last post you see what I think about these days...the quilt is great with this dark fabric, amazing effect!
ReplyDeleteI love also love your color choices. I can't wait to see it completed. I'm sure it will be fresh and orignal like all your work.
ReplyDeleteBruno looks pretty cute, all tucked up there!
ReplyDeleteLove the dark brown background. We're sweltering here in Australia.
ReplyDeleteLOVE! The dark background is gorgeous (is it black?). Can't wait to see it with prairie points :) Christine
ReplyDeletestunning! love those colors with the dark background. Can't wait to see it done with the prarie points.

ReplyDeletePretty color choices!!
ReplyDeleteI know it would become so 'very you' quilt at the end :)
that top is really different for you...and I love it! cool idea for prairie points
ReplyDeleteThe top is delicious (like a tasty chocolate bar) with the darker background. I will love to see it with prairie points as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I have started dreaming of spring, too!
Jacqui, loving those colours of the prairie points, stunning and a true delight to look at.

Pinwheels and Prairie Points always go well together - Bruno looks so worn out! You'd think he was the one doing the sewing...
ReplyDeleteGreat blog you got here. I'd like to read something more concerning that topic. Thnx for posting that info.

I am wishing for spring too!! I like those prairie points. I have never tried making them, maybe I should give them a try?!
ReplyDeleteI really like the colour combinations you used on this one.
ReplyDeleteI agree - snow is awful. That's part of the reason I moved to the south. (which backfired on me right before Christmas with 16" of the white junk)
The pinwheels look great, and yes... spring would be nice!
ReplyDeleteAnything but this weather. Hope you are enjoying your sewing time.
ReplyDeleteharika olmuş süper
