Mother's Day Glow

I'm living in a Mothers' Day glow. My boys convinced my hubby that my dinosaur of a cell phone had to go and they replaced it with this. Could I possibly be iphone cool? I'm going to do my best at it, boys! I also received this wonderful book, Style by Kate Spade, from my hubby. I adore Kate Spade's designs, simple, graphic, and classy. The book is a wonderful insight into color, design, and Kate's philosophy.
This was the card I received from my youngest son. It's true. I'm more interesting on my blog. Today, my life is kleenex, throat lozenges, and too many trips to the bathroom. I was sick all weekend and I can't seem to shake it. It's cold, rainy and miserable. The weather and I will be in the same boat today.

Today is the the midway point in our Spring to Finish Challenge. I have 6 finishes off my list. I'm not satisfied...the list is still VERY long, but I'm committed to plugging away at it. I do want to take time to enjoy the process though.

So if you've made progress, let me know in the comments. When I have some energy I'll put together a few fabric packs for a couple of people from today's comments. You have until the end of the day...midnight central time to leave a comment. Keep up the good work!

  1. Unfortunately, I have had NO finishes to speak of. I just have not been able to get motivated. Even that little "Spring to finish" photo on my blog isn't doing it for me.

  2. Looks like you had a wonderful Mother's Day. I hope you get feeling better soon.
I actually feel like I am off to a great start, I have 6 finishes as well!

  3. I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling bad. I hope the sun comes out and you feel better. I have completed blocks for 6 swaps and mailed them and I put the binding on 1 quilt. Not as much progress as I would like but something.

  4. Nice Mom's day haul! :)

I've finished 3 of my 5 Spring to Finish Challenge tasks. They're the three easy ones but hey, a finish is a finish, right?

    Feel better soon!

  5. I've got one finish, two completed tops, another top nearly there, and one more with fabric cut. WHEW! I wanted to get more sewing done this weekend, but my in-laws were visiting and taking up residence in my guest room - where my sewing machine lives! Shoot, must relocate my sewing space...

  6. I only had four items on my Spring to Finish list - time is hard to come by in house run by two little ones! But the great news is that I've finished two of them! That's halfway to my goal! I've finished my little boy's I Spy quilt - the largest quilt I've ever made - and will be giving it to him for his birthday later this month. And I've finished my retro wave quilt top. This "challenge" has been very helpful for me. Thanks for encouraging us all!

  7. My list included more than it should have (ie, projects that I hadn't started at all yet) but I have one completely done, one in the midst of quilting, and one top finished. Let's hope I use the next three weeks wisely!

  8. I finished quite a few of my knits-in-progress: a pair of fair isle socks, some fair isle mittens, and a vest that turned out horribly. Only two sweaters and a pair of socks left (and one sweater is two evenings away from being finished!). I think I'll also have my best friend's wedding quilt done by Guild on Thursday...(I hope - I really want to show it off).

Feel better! It's a perfect day for snuggling under the covers with a good book.

  9. Well poop! Hope you get to feeling better soon! Your mother's day gifts were awesome!! Sounds like your boys were lookin out for ya! LOL! How fun :)
Well I have 3 of my 8 finished. And got 2 other finishes squeezed in, that weren't on my list! (haha because i started them AFTER i counted my ufo's! lol we weren't supposed to do that, were we? *snort* but hey... they count!)
    :D
And today i am getting nothing done. Exhausted from the week and weekend, and just embracing it today! :)

I logged my first finish on Sat and am really close to finishing my second. Two others are also well on their way.

  14. I finished a quilt for my sons second birthday, cut all 200+ petals for Dresden Plate blocks, and nearly finished an I Spy quilt top for my boys this weekend - I'm pretty happy with that!

    Feel better!

  15. I've been sick all weekend too... boo! I have 3 finishes and for the first time, I feel like I might be crossing everything off my list. I hope you feel better soon!

  18. no fun being sick! Hope you get over it soon, the sun shines, the bird's sing, and life is good! Awesome Mother's Day haul! I love that card!
On the challenge front I've only got one finished, but have another all basted and ready to quilt now, and have started and finished all kinds of little things that weren't part of the list. Life happens!

  19. I have finished 12 out of 21 projects, the last 9 are almost done, and I am very happy with the progress.
Enjoy your new iphone - of course you are iphone cool.-)

    ReplyDelete
  20. 1 of 5 done, but the really bad thing is I've started 1 new project, that I've almost completed. So I better focus, tonight I'll be sewing on binding while watching my son's baseball game (despite the embarassement factor - no one elses mom sews while watching games). Hope you feel better soon!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well, complete finishes I only have two, but I did manage to finish 3 tops that I wanted to do which brings me to 5. I am hoping to get most of them done by the end of the month. I posted my update on my blog.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have 1 item completed and several a lot closer to being done so I am quite happy with my progress. Gratz on the lovely Mom's day loot...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Feel better soon! That's just wrong to be sick on Mother's day! I have one item finished on my list (the quilt for my friend getting married.) And it's two weeks til her wedding(I don't know what's up with that, I am NEVER ahead of schedule) and I have the new shirt on my list cut out and ready to sew. Not bad, considering it's my busy season at work and I am putting in major overtime.....I am hoping for sunny skies for you

    ReplyDelete
  24. i have one finish, it was a wedding present for a wedding on the 7th, so it had to be!

    cate, x

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hope you're feeling better soon, Jackie! Love your mother's day presents. I have quite a few little finishes. I've left the big ones to the end. Here's my blog post today showing what I've done so far.

Thanks for the midway goal.Time to get busy!

  26. I AM making progress! Gave 3 of my finishes away yesterday on Mother's Day! Two runners to my mom & a baby quilt to my daughter, who is expecting my first grandchild!! A couple of other finishes are stored away for June occassions. Just last night, started trying my hand on my first *wonky* log cabin!! Having fun, while making progress!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Two to report today! I intend to have two more by the end of the week, but two for today! Sure feels good to get things finished up. Thanks for the kick in the pants to get moving!

  28. Hope you are feeling better soon. You will love your iPhone. I didn't realize that I needed one until my husband bought me one.

My to do list is done. But then I started another project. I guess that is how it goes. :)

    get better soon

  29. I received a cool new phone for Mother's Day from one of my sons as well. I had the same response, that I would do my best with it! But, no Kate Spade. I'm not THAT cool!! :) Get better quick!

    ReplyDelete
  30. That is an awesome card! Hope you are on the mend soon!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oooh, soon you'll be *blogging* from your iPhone! Sorry you were sick for Mother's Day, hope it ends today and you'll be back to normal soon. I've got three finishes, many many more to go. But three - three is still good, right? Right?! :0)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am envious of your phone, but I know I would lose it within 12 hours...:) I am always losing my phone or not charging it so it would be completely wasted on me.

I have 5 finishes as of today, and I hope to have at least that many more by the end of the month. I have so many things I want to make, but I need to finish!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have one of my 2 promised projects finished and blogged about it http://appliqueaddict.blogspot.com/ Hmmm, maybe I should have added blog updates to my to-do list. Just came home from work with The Terrible Cold. Maybe (if the medicine kicks in)I can get in a little applique time between naps.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I hope you feel better soon! I have gotten two finished quilts done. Still need to baste and quilt a top and get a pile of pieces to finished top status.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Four sewing projects down (skirt, bag/purse, baby rag quilt, baby free-motion quilt), four to go (all bigger quilts, but at least the list is getting smaller)!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have one complete finish... the RK strawberries top and only one more bee block to complete so I am practically done with a second goal. I have not even touched the other three quilts on my list though. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  37. Finished the two baby quilts, haven't done the quilts for Kids one, but I have done 3 more squares (10" squares) of hand quilting since I started. So yay me...or something. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ick so sorry to hear you're sick! At least you have your cool new iPhone to keep you entertained while you're not busy with the Kleenex hehe

My husband always says our life seems so much more interesting on my blog, so that card's spot on!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Slowly, slowly. I think I bit off more than I could chew on the finish front. But it was still good to makea prioritized list to keep me focused.

One thing down, another with great progress, and some more to tackle. First up was my values quilt top.
    http://naptimequilter.blogspot.com/2010/05/spring-to-finish-check-in.html

    Feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  40. My goal was to finish the Necktie Social quilt. The top is done, I'm working on piecing the backing, and then I'll be loading it on the longarm; so I did not get done, but it WILL be done within the next couple days. Sorry to hear you are sick. We are having miserable weather, too. (We always get your leftovers.) I'm fighting that sick feeling and hoping it disappears even faster than the storms. Congrats on your new phone -- you will love it, and be cool in no time!

    ReplyDelete
  41. that card is awesome. And you will love your iphone. Hope you feel better soon.

    ReplyDelete

  46. i have 7 finishes so far...i'm almost finished with some household tasks (since you're counting those this year!) but i started more when my mom bought me plants for mother's day. i didn't have a proper flower bed, so i'm about to. sigh...

Hope you are feeling better soon! Being sick is the worst.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Why did I think I had til the 15th til the halfway point? Oh well. I'll have one finished by then. :(

After that, it's the mending project - do or die.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Aww i'm sorry you are feeling bad - esp on mother's day. Hopefully the new phone will cheer you up - you will LOVE it! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  55. I have my one quilt top about halfway done, major progress, since the other day it was mostly a stack of cut out strips. And I have the batting to make the crib bumpers now. But other than that, no real progress.

    ReplyDelete
  56. You are a very lucky mummy.....my husband thinks that Mothers Day is for the children to treat their mummy so I have a cupboard full of 'beautiful' knick knacks, cardboard object d'art, paper flowers and a life time supply of ferrero rocher (available for 99p from the school Mothers Day shop)! I do of course love them all....but might have to see if I can show them what you got!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hope you get feeling better - and love your new phone! I have 4 finished to date and one more very close....should be 5 total by tonight if all goes as planned today! Feels so good to get some of these things finished. Why do I let them languish??? 2 of them only needed binding - there's no excuse for that!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Jacquie, I hope you get to feeling better soon! Glad you had a wonderful Mother's Day. Love the Blog card. I have two finishes to report. Thanks for the encouragement.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hope you get better soon! The blog card is how I feel sometimes too...I also wish I had something to report, I have no finishes, but have made progress on all my projects!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I finished knitting socks for my mom for Mother's Day and a pair for my friend's mom for Mother's Day! Not done with any quilting projects yet but I am working on that.

    ReplyDelete
  61. That card might be too true! But I got some stuff finished up for the local spring quilt show so I am feeling great!

    ReplyDelete
  62. The phone looks great. And Yes. I'm much more interesting on my blog than off I think.

    ReplyDelete
  63. wow, cool phone! I have loved having my smartphone (not an iphone but a very cool phone anyway).

I hope you're feeling better soon. Ugh, this weather is not fun.
I've finished 3 things on my list so far. :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. I have 3 finishes...none of them what I was aiming for, but finishes nonetheless!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I have finished 3 of my 8. Still hoping that I will actually finish but is I am realistic about it I will finish three more by the end. Crossing my fingers and working hard!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have two items from my list that are completely finished. I have made a dent in ALL of the rest of them, so I am satisfied. Onward!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I finished the three bridesmaid dresses -- the biggest item on my list, most important. I quilted one of the quilts, still needs to be bound. I am about halfway with all of the common threads blocks I was supposed to finish, and I am nearly finished with the quilt top for the secret baby girl quilt. So, while I have only completed one, I have made progress on five others on my list of eleven. Thanks, Jacquie, for keeping us going!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I hope you are feeling better and are enjoying the new phone!! I am stitching on the binding to a baby quilt...and it is SOOO cute!! Love it! Take care!
    Paulette

    ReplyDelete
  69. That phone rocks!! Soon you'll be posting from it. I was just making a mental list of my spring to finish challenges. I got two big ones off my list .... cleaning up my sewing area and cleaning out my garden. I also made a set of coasters this weekend (NOT even on my list!) for a friend I owe a gift to. Now I feel like I can get some sewing done and be more creative. I finally have room to MOVE!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Awesome birthday card :)

I have four finishes, two shy of my goal for today. Six to go!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Jacquie, Welcome to the world of iPhone coolness!! I know you will love it! I seem to be lost without mine. What a great Mom's day gift!! I hope that you are feeling better, just the pits to be sick this time of year.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I basked in Mother's Day glow also. I had mentioned to a friend that it was about time that my boys (15 and 13) bought me something nice for this day. I said I wanted a necklace with the jemstone shaped kids, one for each birthday. I had forgot and expected breakfast in bed or something for dinner. Well they suprised me and got the necklace! And they paid for it themselves! I also got a dozen roses from my step kids that included a box of chocolates and a set of bath oil, beads and salts. What a wonderful Day! I'm still glowing!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Iphone, cool! Mother's Day gifts for the 21st century!

I've got one quilt completely finished and another one that I hope to get done by the end of this week -- but then I had hoped that last week too!

I have blocks from two samplers that I wanted to have finished for this challenge -- I'm on track, one set will be finished tonight and the last two blocks on the other will be worked on for next week.

Hope you feel better and wishing everybody luck with their tasks!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I finished the top for the ORB Quilt Along #4- it is not quilted, but my goal was to get the top done and I did. I also mastered the invisible zipper and finished the cutest skirt ever made! Got caught up on bee blocks and a few no-no arm bands for a charity. YEAH!

    ReplyDelete
  75. well, i've now made 3 pairs of shorts for my little one. you can see a pair here (+ tutorial): http://oldgeorgiahouse.com/?p=1892
i also made us our "mommy and me" matching mother's day skirts: http://oldgeorgiahouse.com/?p=1944
now, just one more skirt (for my mom) and i'll be finished!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I have 3 finishes so far. I guess that's not bad with only 7 things on my list. Ok everyone, lets keep going.

    ReplyDelete
  77. When you travel to new cities, make sure you use your GPS. Type in "quilt stores" in the search. and up will pop all the local quilt stores. This is especially fun on road trips. Have fun. My iPhone is never far from my hand. I was at Fabric Crush today in Seattle. We talked about you!!! Were your ears burning?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I finished 1.5 things. Hooray for me!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I finished half of the list, Jacquie!
Almost can't believe it. Maybe you should make event "..to Finish" every season to motivate us:) Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I've finished 2 of my 5 spring to finish goals. (No progress on "finishing" that small 7lb. WIP that will probably interfere with my ability to reach this goal.). Ofcourse, "finishing" that WIP will take about 25 plus years. Thanks for the push!

    ReplyDelete
  81. aww lady. Hope you are feeling better!

    ReplyDelete
  82. I hope you are feeling better, soon! I have finished my mini Dear Jane quilt and have one more to go. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Well from my list of six things I got one done! Baby quilt pieced, quilted, bound, mailed. I also started picking fabric and actually some cutting for my daughter's graduation quilt. Nothing else even touched though, especially, sadly, getting a new computer.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Well the quilt is pieced and I've started quilting it. I'd like to be further......but this is where I am.

    Hope you feel better soon

you'll love the iPhone! It's super easy to use

    ReplyDelete
  85. I love that card!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I almost have the binding down on a new ticker tape baby quilt I've made in the past couple of weeks... And I cut up 164 squares for an upcoming charm square exchange... I organized some fabric by color... and cleaned up my sewing room... Can't wait for our blogging class tomorrow night and for guild Thursday. So excited to have TWO nights out this week. My husband is less than enthused...

    ReplyDelete
  87. I haven't finished my quilt but I have nearly finished the quilt Top!- just one more border :) I have so much study at the Moment so as I said when I joined the Challenge, any Progress made I will be happy with and I am! I absolutely adore the quilt I am Working, the colours make me so happy and I am really enjoying watching it slowly come together. Hope everyone is enjoying their projects too :)

    ReplyDelete
  88. I hope you are feeling better soon! You had a great Mother's Day - don't know which I like more, the fabric, the book or the phone!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I just wanted to say THANKS! I don't really know why your challenge got me going but it really has - my "completed" list is still fairly small BUT it represents a return to crafting/sewing since my daughter was born in November, so thanks and YAY! I've finished a skirt for myself, a dress and skirt for the baby, a quilted pillow AND I just got two quilts back from the langarm quilter yesterday - you motivated me to get them quilted since I had the realization I was never going to get them quilted myself. Now on to the second half of my list - getting those quilts bound and getting my blog up and running - just wait until the 31st when I can actually link to pictures - wheeee! :-) Hope you feel better soon!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Your phone looks amazing - glad your boys spoilt you :-) The card is perfect. Hope you feel brighter soon.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I know I'm too late for any prizes, but still wanted to check in! Of my 10 items on my list for this challenge, I have so far finished 3 3/4ths! That 3/4th one is definitely being counted - it was a far way from being done and now the top just needs borders and then I can send it to my mom for longarm-quilting it! WOOHOO!

Haven't blogged any of my finishes yet, but I will get busy on that soon.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I missed the giveaway, but I wanted to say congrats on the phone. I still have the dinosaur, but thinking I'll have to step up soon!

    ReplyDelete
  93. the card is wonderful. looks like one my kids would of given me! Spring to finish - well, I've been able to work on 3 of them, but now finished yet. I have been doing to many other commissioned quilted bags for people who are requesting them.
I'm still determined! Thanks for the gentle push and the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Great gifts! LOVE that card!

Sorry that you're down with a cold. Allergies? Hope whatever *it* is that it leaves you fast!

    ReplyDelete
  95. LOVE the card!

I have ONE item finished from my list -- and somehow I managed to make my house messier. not cleaner. And I started something new that wasn't even on the radar. Hope I'm not moving in the opposite direction!

    Feel better!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I have 5 finishes so far, with 3 more coming tonight. It's so satisfying to cross things off the list!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Jacquie, I finally found the spring issue of Stitch and was so pleased to read the article about the quilting bee. So neat to have read your blog about the early days, the flood of interest, the beautiful quilts that resulted, and the great article. Very neat. Hope you feel better soon.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I got an iphone for Mother's Day too! I've wanted one FOREVER. Such a cool toy, er, phone.

I've got 4 out of my 9 spring to finish projects done. We're headed out on a roadtrip at the end of the month, so I'm hoping I can at least get the projects to the hand-sewing stage by that point so I can finish them on the drive!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I missed yesterday's check-in. I am still plugging away on the doll quilt. I am now piecing the "border" that is evolving as I go. I have sewn the ribbon on exactly one of the six burp cloths that I need to finish, soon. Better keep moving!

    ReplyDelete
  100. You're doing a whole lot better than me. I haven't even posted the button on my blog! I did pull a few things out to work on, but that's as far as I've gotten. :(

    ReplyDelete
  101. hope your feeling better!!!! happy mothers day!

    ReplyDelete
  102. I enjoy your blog and also the contributions at sew mama sew. Hope you are feeling better soon.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Wow, sorry you're not feeling well. Cool phone though. I had a big, yes big, finish today...my first queen sized quilt. It took me four months to make (3 kids, dog, husband, housework, and a job slowed me down!)and I wouldn't let myself start anything new until it was finished. Self discipline is not an easy thing but tomorrow I reward myself with a new project!

    ReplyDelete
  104. OMG! your gifts are wonderful but I absolutely love, love LOVE!!! that card.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Aw man, I totally missed the check-in post. It's been a crazy week! I have 4 finishes to report, and hope to have at least one more of the "biggies" done by the end of the challenge!

    ReplyDelete
  106. no way Jacquie! You got an iPhone? do you love it or what? I think I'm hooked to have one for life.
