Changing Partners

I have to admit that without my machine, I feel a bit like I'm sewing in the dark ages on a dinosaur. It's amazing how quickly you get used to a machine, your routines, your moves. A different machine is like changing out a long time dance partner. I'm struggling a bit to find my rhythm. I seem to be stepping on my partner's feet...a LOT!
There is much to do though. I'm making some quilt backs. This one is an oldy, but a goodie. I can't believe this quilt has been stuck in the closet for so long.
I'm doing some basting. I'll have a pile of quilts ready when my baby arrives home.
I'm playing with fabric too. Isn't this a lovely color combo? I'm stepping out a bit. Those of you who have been reading here for awhile know, I don't do purple. Are you closed minded toward a color? I am. I love purple in nature, but I've never been a fan of it on fabric. It may be time to break my purple ban and go for something new.
This fabric may have helped me change my attitude. I have such plans for this!

Thanks so much for all the anniversary wishes. We had a lovely weekend doing nothing together. Heaven!
Have a great week!!

  1. I am feeling the same way about the purple in Tufted Tweets. I ordered the two other colorways but I am considering getting the purplenow.

  2. Me, too! The purple in Tufted tweets pulled me in even though I don't usually work in purple. Lucky you - looks like you scored it all! I was able to get several of my favorite pieces, but not all before I couldn't find it.

  3. I do like the baby soft purples but same thing--purple in nature is the best. Can't wait to see what you're up to. I wander aimlessly in my sewing room, meaning to organize but missing my sewing machine. :o)

  4. I am with you in the purples. Although I love the color when I see it done in quilts, I can't quite wrap my arms around it myself.

  5. I too have never been partial to purple on fabric - until I was commissioned to make a purple orchid quilt. It was definately wayyyy out of my comfort zone but the end result was beautiful.

Hope you have a similar experience with your purple creation. Can't wait to see what you do with it!!! No pressure!!!

  6. I'm so anxious to see what you do with Tufted Tweets. After shopping from three different places, I have a yard of each colorway in the whole line. Whew!

  8. I'm the same way with purple. I have lots of purple flowers in my yard, but I think I have one purple fabric! Looks like it's going to be a beautiful combo, though!

  9. I have read so many blog posts by so many bloggers saying the same thing about purple - but I just don't get it! I absolutely LOVE purple! Not every shade, of course... think Joker in Batman... with that awful green... ugh! But darker plums, and softer lavenders... paired with grays or navy blues or creams... mmmmm...

  10. Can't quite get behind purple, either. Love real flowers in purple, but nothing in fabric seems to find the right colors. Or maybe they don't look the same. I've got fabric in every color of the rainbow, except purple. And I'm good with it.

  11. Been chasing Tufted Tweets and Castle Peeps all weekend it seems but I have fix on its way now!

  12. I'm also not a buyer of purple fabric, though I like some purples I've seen. I also have trouble with orange. There's a lot less orange out there and it's hard to find really nice shades.

  13. I think color speaks up differently in different fabric. I love purple batiks but I wouldn't say I love all purple fabrics. I feel like orange is starting to win me over though I always shied away from it. Enjoy your productivity!

  14. I can't wait to see your plans for Tufted Tweets - I have a stack and am just lost on what to do with it - it's so fabulous, I want to honor it somehow!

  15. I'm just beginning work with a set of Tufted Tweets FQs - I love ALL the colors. What a great collection that is.

It's a "commissioned donation" quilt for a charity auction that my sister asked me to do this quilt for. It's my very first really Mod one - quite a bit like Ashley's of Film in the Fridge, only not as wonky.

And lots of Bella Bleached White. This is a little out of my comfort zone too - the Mod stuff. But I'm really liking how it's going.

  16. after the anniversary post, your title today through me for a loop!!
I, too, will anxiously await your plans for the TT line. I love it, but can't think of a plan so have saved my $ for now. Plus, I'm sure I won't see it up here for ages, so now I've got to wait for the second online run later in summer, anyway.

  17. I used that purple fabric on the left myself in a recent pull. With browns too, but I added grey and a bit of peach. It was based on a handful of crayons my little one handed me. Good luck with the purple!

  18. Certain purples I love and certain shades I hate. Love the Tufted Tweets! I am dying to buy some but trying to be good and not add to my stash unless I have a solid plan. But...

  24. Is it wrong of me to think that you don't love purple because you're a Jayhawk? :) Haha! I stay away from purple as well, and I always wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I went to KU.

  29. I hate brown, and its boring children taupe and beige. Waste of fabric, in my opinion! I'm not crazy about pastels, but I don't have a visceral reaction to any color but brown.
