It's a new week and I'm all about new today. New fabric and a new place to shop! Awhile ago, one of my blog friends asked for some advice on opening an online fabric store. Well, I was happy to oblige. I do a lot of fabric shopping. She didn't just talk about it, she did it and I'm thrilled to say she's on her way to something great. She's opened Marmalade Fabrics.
She's started smart with a good shipping policy (check that out), great organization, an incentive program for those of us who like to shop and most importantly great fabric.
As a thank you she sent me these amazing Daisy Janie organic fabrics. Aren't they to die for? They are the brainchild of Jan DiCintio who is tops in my book these days. The fabrics are her Geo Grand line and from left to right they are: Ogee, Hip Squares, Crystal Ball, Caravan, and Fruit Bowl. Don't you LOVE the colors....eeeek, so great!

So, do you want to share in this fabric fabulousness? Head on over to Marmalade Fabrics. Tammy is starting small, but would like to grow and we can help her. Drop in and check out her site, come back here and leave a comment telling her what you liked in her store and a piece of advice for her. What would you like to see next? While you're there, start an account so you'll be ready to shop.
A comment will enter you in a giveaway for the Daisy Janie fabrics...a whole fat quarter set....yippee!! Let the fun begin!
I'll draw a winner from all the comments that followed directions on Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. central time. Make sure there is a way to contact you...please!
Gorgeous fabrics here on your blog, but you might want to check your link. I think you forgot the http part of it. Her site is awesome though!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great shop! She has some great fabric selections and I really like that she has some organic options. The only thing I noticed that I would like is more options in bundles. I like to buy individual fabrics but it's also nice to have bundles. I'm sure I'll be doing some shopping there!
ReplyDeleteLOVE her site. I agree with Nusty Coco, bundles would be nice...but I know she needs to get going more before she starts having TONS of options :) :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fabric choices....
link is fixed ...thanks amy!
ReplyDeletewow, those are some seriously beautiful fabrics--the boxwood metro in blue(in her shop) is swoon-worthy!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see you make something with the fat quarter bundle giveaway--they're so you!
Wow!! LOVED all the fabric especially Bird Tree and High Society and Geo Fabric...SEW lovely!! I also love the 20% off coupon! Lots to love including this give away!! Thanks so much for the chance to win!
ReplyDeletePaulette
Woo-hoo! And it's great for fabric store owners to collaborate with fabric buyers :)
ReplyDeletei like the design of the shop. my only suggestion would be to add more selection and perhaps a category of prints by scale? ooh and some nice coordinating solids would be great.
ReplyDeletei've added the shop to my bookmarks, thanks!
Great shop but she doesn't offer any options on international shipping :(
ReplyDeleteAnd while the fabric selection is great I think that most of those prints are too busy for me. Maybe pair some of it with some solids or make suggestions as to what solids would fit each print.
Looks like a great shop! I like how you can search by Collection, designer, color etc. One thing I like that some shops do is offer custom bundles of fabric that they think go great together. It is a nice way to get fun fabrics from different designers and know that they will work together. For those of us that are very new to quilting and fabric buying it can be a good option. It can be hard to tell online what colors will work together.

Well, of course I love ALL the fabric. I love the name .... Marmalade is such a fun word to say and delicious. I also love the look and the fact that you ship within 24 hours and that you can shop by set, color, designer, etc. I don't really have any advice but I do wish her great success!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shop name (to be fair, my childhood cat was named Marmalade and I have a soft spot for the name....). Anyways, I like the collections she's chosen thus far and echo the request for some coordinating solids. In addition, I much prefer to see the price per yard rather than half yard. Even if I buy half yards, I compare prices and add things up by the yard. But others may disagree...
ReplyDeleteLovely shop!! I've set up an account :)
ReplyDeleteI really love the Geo Grand and Bird Tree fabrics.
More information on international shipping would be great.
Thanks for a great giveaway!!
Awesome new shop! I like the shipping charges a bit better than some sites offer. Her page set-up is easy to read and easily navigated. I have added her new shop to my favorties and will be placing an order soonly. My best wishes to her success!
ReplyDeleteThe site is great, loved all the fun prints. I will definately be checking back when I have a project going. Really liked the free shipping offer too. Sylvia
ReplyDeleteswhitesides@comcast.net
Great home page! I definitely want to explore!
ReplyDeleteI love that she carries Saffron Craig! I love her lines but have never bought because of shipping to the US.
I love that you can order fat quarters from her shop without them being part of a bundle!
The site is also very clean looking and visually appealing!
Free shipping on orders over 25 is a great deal!
The picture quality on some of the swatches could be a little better. For some prints, the pattern looks blurry.
Nice shop! I love the Australian bird tree print.
ReplyDeleteI love her shop! I really love that shipping is free after $25...I'll be shopping there in the future! I just wish she had more inventory, but I'm sure that will come as her shop grows.
ReplyDeleteI love her selection of fabrics. I also think it's great she sells everything by the fat quarter.
ReplyDeleteLovely fabrics over at Marmalade! The High Society Victorie set is my favorite! Specialty fabrics such as laminates or flannels would be a nice addition! Thanks for the give away!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shop! There are so many things that I like: free shipping over $25, a rewards program, and you can buy individual fat quarters. Very customer-friendly.
ReplyDeleteoh, there are some fabrics designed by Saffron Craig - I love them! I didn't know some of the prints in section organic fabrics -these prints look great. I like also fabrics sets - great choice of fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI was so pleasantly surprised checking out the new store! Competitive prices, GREAT shipping (quick and affordable), beautiful fabric.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other comments: more bundles! I love, love checking out FQ bundles.
Hope she's wildly successful!
ambernoel226 at gmail dot com
Fabulous! Good for her!
ReplyDeleteWonderfully modern fabrics. Its great she offers fat quarters but I dislake having to go to a seperate posting to find them. A lot of times when I shop I place things in my cart and then go back a adjust the amount I want. If I decide I want a FQ I have to go get one and delete what I have from the cart. I know it isn't that tough to do but it is a little annoying.
ReplyDeleteI like the birds on a tree. I shop more in stores (I like to see and touch) than online, so I don't have a lot of useful advice. The website looks well organized, though!
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric choices! And such a great name. My advice would be don't try to grow too fast. Keep it steady and fun.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
You've done a great job making the separate listings for the fat quarters really obvious so that it's not confusing when two of the same fabric come up (and I totally understand why you list these separately). Recommendations on fabrics from different lines that look good together would be great, since you can't tell a thing about color on a computer monitor! Good luck to you in your new venture!
ReplyDeleteMarmalade Fabrics was well worth a visit. My fabric of choice was High Society by Khristian Howell. What I liked best about the site was the shipping policy. A larger fabric selection will come in time .. and I will be patiently watching. My account is open. Payday is several days away; however, I am thinking I will try out the service of Marmalade Fabrics - love the name choice!
ReplyDeleteWonderful site. I like the arrangement and color palette she chose for the headlines. Great fabric. I am a big time online shopper and I like the fact that she has a 24 hour turnaround and free shipping on orders over $25.00. Who can go to a fabric store/site and spend less than $25.00. Whenever I shop at a new site I always check out the "about me" page before I buy. I would suggest she add that otherwise good job!
ReplyDeletemathmom457@aol.com, aka Rita Tasca
Great fabrics. I'm loving the High Society fabrics!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking shop! I love that I can buy Saffron Craig there as well. I was just going to put myself on a shopping hiatus, but really, I feel the better thing to do is help a newly established store get started, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteOooh! Lovely fabrics and lovely new shop (congratulations Marmalade!). My finger was seriously hovering over the Safari Garden Path in grey and the Safari Orbs in pumpkin. I'll probably have to go back and get them after I drop the kiddos at preschool.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see some coordinating solids offered along with the beautiful prints. I also really like it when shops offer tutorials and/or photos of finished items that use their fabrics.
Beautiful shop and best of luck to the shop owner - it's sure to be an adventure!
I love the shop and would love to see Innocent Crush and Solids!
ReplyDeleteand also it would be helpful if there's information on international shipping rates (if she has)
I love the small selection, actually. It felt like a really well-curated selection, which I appreciate over a willy-nilly conglomeration. I am particularly excited about Khristian A. Howell's fabrics! Beautiful stuff!
ReplyDeleteIt might be nice to have a Twitter feed for the store - just another way to connect people with the products, provide quick links to new things coming in, tutorials, etc. Oh, and sales. Sales are always good. :)
great shop and I love the fabrics
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shop! Thanks for sharing. I am drooling over the Geo Grand line. I love how you can search multiple ways, pictures load fast, and the coming lines feature with anticipated arrival date is great. I don't know about advice. I think she is heading in a great direction- keep going that way.
ReplyDeleteGreat shop and organization! I'd love to see some solids too - and possibly some Heather Bailey, Jenean Morrison, or Laura Gunn (just a few of my favorites!). Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love that she has an upcoming section to let the shopper know what she has on order. Very smart. Great shipping info up front too...
ReplyDeleteNot sure on what the site needs, it looks extremely well thought out and thorough!
Loved the High Society line, the neutrals with gold are just so yummy. Shipping policy is wonderful. Advice? Add some solids please. I like the addition of Anthology, I've only seen it one other place. And I did set up an account, I'm sure I'll be shopping there soon. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all YAY! to anew fabric shop (someday I want to have one too.)
ReplyDeleteI love the white uncluttered background. I love that you offer FQ's. I love the free shipping at $25 it's the lowest I've seen. I also love the different ways to filter the fabrics.
By the way I added your giveaway to the new Quilty Giveaways site
http://QuiltyGiveaways.blogspot.com
I love that she sells FQs, and I love the FQ sets. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteOh what yummy fabrics and just fantastic colours - LOVE them - my suggestion would be to help avoid excessive UK handling charges when arriving eg: handling charge on a necklace gift was nearly 70% of the original cost including postage - would be to mark them as a gift (fabric), as long as it's just a selection of 5-7 FQ's or the equalivant. Oh and I love the 'fruit bowl'fabric
ReplyDeleteWonderful fabrics! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great shop! I love that the "coming soon" fabrics are listed right on the front door!
ReplyDeleteI liked the collections since I don't pick coordinating fabrics well. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
ReplyDeleteI was pleased to see a section for organic fabrics and I would suggest adding solids. The site looks very promising and I do like the shipping policy!
ReplyDeletei love that you can search by color!
ReplyDeleteI love her shop! The fabrics are so cool and so different from what I can get here in town...I'm passing her link onto my quilting friends!
ReplyDeleteLove her site and what fun fabrics! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI liked the high society fabrics in the fall- browns, oranges, greys and yellows.
ReplyDeleteI think she's sell the new Anna Maria Horner fabric if she stocked it.
Thanks for the opportunity to win fabric.

ReplyDeleteI really like that you can choose t buy fat quarters. I really hate it when fabric sellers won't let your purchase by the fat quarter! I also love the fact that Saffron Craig is in stock.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I would like to see is a word search. I'd love to be able to search for keywords. Secondly the thumbnails seem to take a while to load; I clicked on "view image" and the image that is loading for the thumbnail is scaled from a larger size. The pages would load quicker and it would be much more handy to see in a mobile device if the thumbnails weren't so large they have to be scaled down.
wonderful fabric and nice website layout. not sure why fabrics are listed by 1/2 yard prices.
ReplyDeleteIt's a really nice site and I LOVE the fabric! Hope it's successful and she can branch out more. I'd love to see Amy Butler fabric.... it's always one of my favorites. :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThat is a really great site! I love that you can shop by so many different categories, including color. That's really helpful for me to see colors grouped together. I also love that there's a permanent shopping cart once you create an account, and that she keeps a record of what you bought! So helpful for those times you didn't buy enough yardage!
ReplyDeleteI'd really like to see kits for small projects, like handbags. I have a tendency to fall in love with a project "as is" and want to use the same fabrics as shown in the sample.
The site looks great! I really love the free shipping over $25, as that is an easily obtainable goal! ;) It's also pretty cool to see pictures of the designers she features. As for advice, I think once she increases her variety, this will be a go-to fabric shop.
ReplyDeleteLove the modern prints and the fact pricing is listed by FQ. Will definately be returning.
ReplyDeleteLealee@insightbb.com
I created an account and I love the site! She has great taste in fabrics! So many great one's to choose from! My one suggestion would be to maybe link each fabric collection with coordinating solids?
ReplyDeleteGreat shop with lots of fun fabrics. I LOVE the Bird Tree Fabrics. nkadenver@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI love the name of her store. The shipping policy is amazing and makes me want to spend more knowing I don't have to pay the shipping so it is like walking into my LQS. I look forward to seeing a larger selection but of course you have to start somewhere. Congrats to your friend!!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, wonderful new shop. I love lots of fat quarter choices. The incentives are great and setting up an account is a great idea as well. I wish her luck! Thank you for the give-away chance.
ReplyDeleteLots of cool fabrics so that is a big plus! But to be truthful, I will not shop anywhere that says free shipping to Continental US. If she is using USPS, there is no additional fee for Hawaii or Alaska or even some of the US territories-the same Flat rate postage applies. I think she needs to check that out and consider changing her policy.
ReplyDeleteI always love it when new shops spring up, they always have a fresh new perspective. I love her layout, it's really easy to navigate.
ReplyDeleteWhen you click to enlarge the fabrics, it would be nicer to have a larger section of the fabric rather than a zoomed in version of the thumbnail. It would also be good to have some kind of scale so you can tell how large the patterns are.
I haven't gone over there yet, but I know I will be doing some shopping there next month. This month's budget is gone. *L*
ReplyDeleteLooks like she's gotten some good ideas already.
I like the shop- I am always on the look out for new fabric shops. I like the rotating collections at the top- lets us see very different fabrics from the bold geometric collections to whimsical ones.
ReplyDeleteOne thing she might try is to have a section on the site (or perhaps on the blog) devoted to products people make with fabrics they bought from your shop. Maybe individuals can be enticed to send their pics with free shipping, discounts or extra samples (to be sent on a future order).
I once ordered some fabrics from an online store and they threw in two large scraps of fabric that sort of went with what I ordered. It was the nicest unexpected surprise.
Oh my gosh! She carries Saffron Craig! I always LOVE that stuff, but the postage from down under is just too darned high.
ReplyDeleteMan, I wish I had $$ right NOW.
Love her fabric offerings! And love that she is doing fat quarters.
ReplyDeleteHey now, that's some pretty fabric!
ReplyDeleteNice website and a good selection of unique fabric. Like the offer of $10 free fabric for every $100 ordered. My suggestion: have lots of collections of fatQ's and half yds for making quilts, makes it easier to choose from all the eye candy...
ReplyDeleteJacquie, I perused the new store online! love the name! I suggested a need for some solids! I love solids these days!
ReplyDeleteI saw her site the other day and thought it was quite nice!
ReplyDeletedrat it - whet over there and ended up shopping! love the site and fabrics - I left her a comment with my favorite designers. I like the choose by color option - that is very important to me! Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteI liked the site, especially the option to select fabrics by color! Can't wait to see what other fabrics she will carry as she grows. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeletethanks for the plug! she has some beautiful fabrics for some very good prices!
ReplyDeleteMaybe i'm just young, but i'm LOVING this retro style!! And I agree, she is a GREAT designer!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway!
Thanks for the heads up on this shop. It looks amazing and the prices are great! I think I will be ordering some high society soon. My only advice is to make sure to maintain great customer service. Oh and make sure the person cutting your fabric knows what they are doing. Nothing is worse than getting an order and finding out that you are an inch short or so. Sometimes you really need that exact amount.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking that you can buy FQs individually...I think she is right that no one else on the net does this right now (or at least not very easily)!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great start! I love that she sells in small quantities like fat quarters, I love to build my stash with fat quarters. Her prices also seem really reasonable! My best next step advice would be to build some custom FQ bundles, mixing designers and such. Or some custom half-yard bundles, that's one of my favorite things to stumble upon at a fabric shop, online or in store! And the shipping prices are great!
ReplyDeleteI liked your selection and was tempted to purchase several fat quarters right away. Great pricing!
ReplyDeleteI love the free shipping on orders over $25. A suggestion would be to have a "You might be interested in these other fabrics" suggestion box underneath each fabric when it's clicked on. It works with me when I'm on Amazon. Thanks for the giveaway and good luck with your new venture!
ReplyDeleteThe shipping prices are great. I love the idea of just one FQ at a time. Wish her the best of luck.
ReplyDeleteMarie in Oregon
mariebeers@hotmail.com
lovely site and some truly beautiful fabric. One feature I always appreciate on sites with small pictures is the ability to put the mouse over the picture and see an enlargement, or to click on the image and go immediately to a larger picture. With prints it helps if I can see a scale ruler or some other reference point to gauge the size of the print as well.
ReplyDeleteHeh, I was having so much fun over there that I almost forgot to come back here and comment :) I signed up for her newsletter too, that should be fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with her FAQ section (don't laugh, FAQs are incredibly useful for us international folk for whom all of the well promoted domestic shipping deals don't apply, a well written FAQ lets me know whether to bother poking through the store). While her shipping for Canadians isn't as fabu as it is for Americans it's still fair and I'll definitely buy.
As for advice, apart from fixing the wee typo in the FAQ, I'd love to see more pre-cuts, more bundles, the things that people (like me) who are a little less confident in their fabric matching skills can really benefit from. I'd also love to see some solids, which would make it more of a one-stop shopping experience.
All in all I think Marmelade is a wonderful new shop, and I'll definitely keep checking back to watch it grow!
Nice shop! (Thanks for bringing it to our attention...) It's set up well and has lovely selections, some of which I hadn't seen before. I would like to see some solids added, specifically which coordinate with the lines she's carrying - so that I can "one-stop shop"! I'd also like to see some bundles like Pink Chalk Fabrics does, mingling different lines and solids for a unique combination.
ReplyDeleteI love the GEO Grand Line featured on your Blog. the Fruit Bowl is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI also love her new online store Marmalade Fabrics and I think the site looks great.
It seems very user friendly....which may not be a good thing for my bank account !
I just tried to go back to her site using her link and it is not working....weird.
So my suggestion would to make it so her site would come up when you google it....I have tried several times and cannot find her site
GOOD LUCK ....with your new business venture
Great shop, and great fabric selections.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if she is working with a designer on the site, but it could probably use a bit of cleaning up -- it is a bit cluttered and overwhelming. And getting people to swap links/buttons ASAP will really help with the SEO issues people have mentioned.
Best of luck; I look forward to shopping once I get through some of my current pile of fabric...
Bravo - what great shop...lots of ways to find stuff - love the find by color, and the you may also like features! My suggestion...find a way to tie in your shop name around the site...right now Marmalade is a random name, you want people so have several hooks to remember it so they can come back!
ReplyDeletelovely shop...I too have set up an account. I can't wait to see how she grows and while I'm on a shopping diet right now I know that at some point I'll be tempted to break it.
ReplyDeletegood luck with your shop!
Wow, this looks like a great little store! I loved that she is selling Australian fabrics. I find them really hard to find here. I would love to see more Australian fabrics and more organic fabrics. These are two things I search high and low for, and with her deal on shipping, I would definitely stop looking elsewhere if I could find them both at Marmalade! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love the shop. The fabrics are beautiful. The shipping policy is very good. I like that she will cut fat quarters. I was searching for fat quarters this weekend and they were hard to find. Good Luck on the shop.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabrics! I like the shop design and especially that she has all the information visible right there without having to go to another page. I find the head of the page a bit busy with the rotating photos and the big 20% off sign.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your friend on the new store opening! It was an easy site to navigate and the fabric looked beautiful. I have to say, my favourite thing was her awesome shipping policy. I can't tell you how much I hate it when online sellers charge you shipping according to how much you spend. So $100 in feathers will cost more to ship than $20 of heavy denim which will weigh a LOT more! It's like being penalised for giving them more business.
ReplyDeleteThe only advice I have is to be responsive to her customers' concerns. Not necessarily to do whatever they ask, but to acknowledge their concerns and make an honest effort to sort out any issues. I'd rather pay more for fabric at a place where I know they will always look after me, than buy it cheaper at some place where the service stinks.
Good luck to Marmalade Fabrics!
Wow! I think my husband wants me to start a fabric store, or at least he thinks I'm aiming to start one... I love the name of the shop and the delicious fabrics too! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWell, she has nice product that looks a bit different from the mainstream quilting fabric. Her site is VERY busy and I found it a bit overwhelming with all the swatches on every page. For ex: click on designers and there are swatches below. Who do they belong to? and why are they there? Just show the designers and then link to each specific page. It's a work in progress, but so far her inventory is definitely edgy and I like that!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love that everything is being offered in fat quarters!! the store is also really easy to browse and navigate.
ReplyDeleteI would really like to see is fat quarter bundles of the lines (like the 1/2 yard bundles you already offer) as an option in the future, but either way it's a great store.
Now back to do some shopping (or purchasing the cart that I filled up when browsing the store).
I really like her blog, too. I loved that there were fabrics that were harder to find or I had never seen before, like the ones in the giveaway. My comment would be that for some reason the images of the fabric were kind of grainy and a little dizzying. The pictures on her blog were perfectly clear.
ReplyDeleteGreat shop - I really appreciate that most of the fabrics are very reasonable (as in, not $12 for a half yard!), and yet very beautiful. I'd love to see more fabrics that are less floral - the give away fabrics here are a good example.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful selection and a very reasonable shipping charge. Spend $25.00 on fabric - no problem! The shopping incentive is a great way to get repeat business. I would like to see precut packs such as charms packs or layer cakes.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the High Society-Safari line. No advice here, as I don't have much experience in online shopping, but I may start now...
ReplyDeleteYay! Another great store :) I hope it is wildly successful! As for tips ... hmmm ... I think it's been mentioned, but bundling fabrics together (and not just a designer's collection, although those are great too and I buy many!). When shopping online it can be hard to color match, so seeing it on the screen together really helps. Also, if you decide to carry solids, suggesting particular solids that go well with a fabric would be extra lovely. Might be time consuming, too, so maybe that can be a special treat reserved for bundles. Great store!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's important to me that you have free shipping over $25 and offer fat quarter cuts. Way to go! I think solids from Kona are a good investment for your future success.
ReplyDeleteI really do love the Geo Grand line of organic fabrics. I think mostly because I love those colors!
ReplyDeleteI think you have a great selection of beautiful fabrics.
My only advice would be to offer the fabric in 1 yard increments. I like to make things that require more than 1/2 yard.
Love her store! I really like the fact that she offers fat quarters, and free shipping for over $25 is great! I always like to look at coming soon lines, so I hope she gets that up and running.
ReplyDeleteI love that she has color categories! I love shopping for fabric by color! My advice is to add a smaller selection of coordinating color fabrics that pop up in a smaller box when you search for a color. Example: You search for orange and the orange fabrics come up along with a couple of purple fabrics in a separate box. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the whole mid-mod vibe! Great selection so far. I like that you can shop by colour and by line and by designer - very user friendly. And I like that you can order FQs - sometimes you only need a bit and some shops don't cater to this. No tips for you - just keep up the good work! And thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous! They are the colors that I use in my livingroom. :) Thanks for hosting such a fun giveaway!
ReplyDeletejustme16@msn.com
Beautiful fabrics and lovedthe store. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteLove the free shipping option, shipping can put the price out of sight.
ReplyDeletei love the fabrics tammy's shop carries. i love the bird tree line. it would be nice to have a ruler scale by the fabric pictures.
ReplyDeletesongyueyu at gmail
So funny, I actually found her shop the other day and wondered why I hadn't seen it before because it looked so great...but then I realized that there wasn't a huge amount of stock so maybe I hadn't been looking for an item they carried. This answers all those questions.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to have free shipping over $25. I think that may be the best deal online for shipping. And being able to order by the fat quarter is great. I think that I was just a little confused at first because the fabric is listed separately for the fat quarter. I'm not sure I would do that...but whatever makes it easier for people. I guess I want to see the fabric and then do a drop down menu for what amount i want to order; fat quarter, 1/2 yard, yard, etc.
good luck with the shop to your friend!
I've added her shop to my favorites. I think her pricing structure will serve her well. Thanks for telling us about it.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great shop. Thanks for the heads up. The Daisy Jane fabrics are beautiful...I'd love to add those to my stash!
ReplyDeleteWonderful start with some terrific fabrics for Marmalade Fabrics. Huge potential with nowhere to go but up!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a nice shop. I like the lay out very much. I don't know if I would change anything really. I have to say I am drawn to shops with a dark background like gray or black. Thanks for this opportunity.
ReplyDeleteoooh gorgeous. yes please!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, my favorite thing from the shop was this fat quarter bundle you are giving away! I hope I win. :)
ReplyDeleteAs for advice, I LOVE it when shop owners have fabric BUNDLES for sale. It makes choosing fabric so much easier if it is already all matched up for me!
Lovely site, great fabrics. Loved the free shipping option and that there are some sales to be found and coupon available. When we comparison shop, it's all about the bargains that draw us in and not just the fabrics that we might find elsewhere, too.
ReplyDeleteMy favourites are the Kona. Offering bargains is always a good option as everyone is looking for one.
ReplyDeleteWow I loved her store! What do I like best? The layout - it feels like a real store and not a dinky little home one. It looks so professional. And I LOVE the shipping price! My advice (to any online fabric store) would be to always keep the price of fabric plus the cost of shipping combined cheaper than buying in a brick and mortar store. Otherwise what's the incentive? I'd rather see the fabric in person and feel it, but hey if it's a bargain online then I'll definitely buy it online!
ReplyDeleteI am off to check out the store!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, it looks like she's doing a fantastic job so far. I really like free shipping over $25, the rewards program, and I LOVE being able to buy individual fat quarters! I know a lot of people have asked for more bundles, but that's not that high on my personal list. Invariably, there is one fabric in a bundle that I'm not that crazy about. I really hope she continues with the individual fat quarters as she gets more fabrics! Thanks for bringing this shop to my attention. I'm hoping to make an order on friday!

Thanks for the giveaway ladies! :)
ReplyDeleteTammy I love the fact that you took advice from someone that shops online a lot... that is only going to help you out in the long run! :) I LOVE the fact that you have an incentive program and that there is a discount and over $25 is free shipping that is the biggest downfall to online the shipping.
I would only suggest a small thing. The background on your website is too white, maybe just a subtle cream or gray or neutral pastel would bring out the marmalade orange color you have and help the eye focus on the fabric. Hope that makes sense! Good luck on your new endeavor! :)
summersdreamz@gmail.com
Yay! FQs and great shipping incentive...
ReplyDeleteFinally, an online shop that gets that I don't usually need the minimum 1/2 yard.
wow, free shipping at 25 bucks, that is huge in my book! id love to see some solids in the shop, maybe some carolina chambray's to go with the gorgeous selection of printed fabrics! good luck, ill be watching you!
ReplyDeleteI loved the fabric selections!! Gorgeous and unique colors. I live the variety. I think if I were making decisions on where to go from here, I'd add a few more choices in the "kits" with the pre-selected fabrics. Personally I get nervous picking out colors online (what is that turquoise is really navy?), so when I do shop in an estore, I usually go for the kits because I know if the colors are different than how my computer monitor displayed them, they'll all still match!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the store! I wish your friend the best.
Wow! I love so many of her prints. Everything is super easy to find. Truly a well designed site. I can't wait to see the shop expand and as it does it will be so much easier to get to that $100 mark... not that it isn't already!
ReplyDeleteoh-la-la, such nice rich looking fabrics. Right now I love the High Society Clay
ReplyDeleteWow, this is some of the most beautiful fabric I've seen in a while! And not your usual fare. Love the colors of all teh collections. Can't wait to see the new stuff! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love how colorful the site is...and the free shipping.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.
I love the Bird Tree set. And my advice? Good customer service is what it's all about. There are lots of shops out there. Good customer service is what keeps people coming back.
ReplyDeleteI am especially smitten with the Safari in Clay group of fabrics. I'm a bundle gal, so I'd love to see bundles...and maybe you could offer to whip up some quilts that she could use to show off the various bundles! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the layout and easy navigation of her site {I am a web designer and I am picky} Her prices and policies are great. I look forward to more inventory but she has started with some amazing choices.
ReplyDeleteI like the site - particularly as a new quilter, I look at online sites quite a bit and learn a lot from looking at fabrics, thinking about color ways, etc. I do think adding solids over time would be wonderful. I do appreciate the very clear indicator of pattern size. Really helpful.
ReplyDeleteI can see myself shopping there! ewho2010@yahoo.com
congrats on the new shop! the sale prices and free shipping option are awesome - more selection would be nice, but that'll come with time. :)
ReplyDeletebess
What a great beginning at Marmalade! The starting fabric selection is beautiful. I like the selection categories, especially by color. One additional selection idea would be to include patterns to sort by....I love dot fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI love it! Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteI love the rewards program - I probably don't spend that much on fabric currently, but the lure of free fabric might be enough incentive!
ReplyDeleteI stopped by Marmalade and signed up for an account. I like the individual fat quarters and $2 price - was about same as LQS. One of my recent favorite collections High Society (clay) was shown. Advice: I became frustrated because the screens were extremely slow to load (half hour later still no home page - hour later and incomplete home page load) and received a link error when clicked on fabric by collection from the new account screen. She may want to try screen navigation tests at various times of day so can see how long it takes to load and find broken links. I love the page font and page layout because I could easily read and spot things -- just couldn't move through the pages in a reasonable timeframe. I also like pricing to be by the yard (not half yard). Make it easy to buy with good policies and should be a winner. Thanks for the introduction to this new shop. With a little tweaking and advertising, I think it can grow. Best wishes Marmalade (I like the name too).
ReplyDeleteI like the layout of the store very much, it is quite appealing to the eye. And the offer of free shipping is wonderful... it seems so easy to spend over $25 when you have so many beautiful fabrics to choose from :)
ReplyDeleteGreat online store - nice selection and the website is easy to navigate.
ReplyDeleteMy piece of advice... I would like to see shipping info available without having to place an order first. I live in Canada and quite often when I order fabric (or anything) from the U.S., I end up paying sooooo much for shipping. It would be nice to know ahead of time how much it was going to be (approximately) so I could decide whether it's worth it before going through the whole rigamarole of placing an order.
The fabric is spectacular! I love the patterns and colors. They're certainly more interesting than most of the things I can find in the stores. As for the site itself, I agree with some of the other commenters, it's really busy. I understand how it may seem impossible to make a store site that isn't busy, but it can be done. Buttons would be nice. She needs a site that shows the individuality and quality of her fabric, not something that looks like a chain store's site.
ReplyDeleteWow, the shop is fantastic! Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on this shop. Love the fabric choices, the coupons and free shipping. I will visit this shop because it offers things I have not seen anywhere else. The site was easy to navigate.
ReplyDeleteThe fabric looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love the clean layout of her website, but I'd love to see a sale category :)
ReplyDeletegreat new site to bookmark for my fabric shopping collection!
I like that you have collections arranged so that you can buy matching fabrics. My advice is to offer Moda charm packs - which I love working with!
ReplyDeleteI love that she has different designers, not just run of the mill like everyone else is competeing for. I hope she does really well, I will be telling my quilty friends in Australia all about her too!

I really like the selection of fabrics Tammy has started with. The free postage with just a $25 purchase is great. If I hadn't challenged myself to go a month without buying any fabric, I would have had a full cart! Perhaps she could include some solids or near-solids in the future. And hopefully more variety in colors (although I am really drawn to the blues and browns myself.)

How exciting! I like the shop name and the color. The fabrics in the shop are also refreshing and adorable.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to see a new shop appear! I like the use of images - good pictures of each fabric really helps. It's a bit hard to judge how the colour categories will look this early on when they're empty, but I do love this option on other sites, it makes searching SO much easier! What would I like to see in the future? Mixed and matched bundles of FQ or half yards that aren't limited to one fabric line. Advice? Please please don't make International customers contact you for postage because I know from other sites that I won't bother if I have to go through two extra steps and wait. There's a whole world of international customers out there with increasingly strong dollars against the US and it'd be a shame to lose them at the first hurdle. Could you maybe come up with something catchy like the US shipping thing? Obviously not free but like a flat rate or at the very least have the amount you can stuff in an envelope and how much it'd cost. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI really like that she has pictures of the designers on the site. It helps put a face to the work. It might be nice, if when you click on the photo that you click through to the designers blog or home page. The site looks great though. Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteWow. The website is beautiful and the fabrics are gorgeous. I really like how you can search the fabrics in various categories, especially by color and also by sets. I don't really care much about who designs what, mostly because I just like them all, but I like to see clear pictures of the fabric so I know what I'm buying. I would like to see customer reviews and customer photographs of finished projects. I get my inspiration from others, not being super creative myself in the design department. My only advice would be to hang in there, having your own business takes years of practice before seeing noteworthy results. Don't give up!
ReplyDeleteOh my GOODNESS!! What a fantastic shop!! I would love to win those!! They are just absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice shop - easy to navigate. Fabrics are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow - such cool prints and colors! Marmaduke is a great new site - thanks for introducing her. I have wanted to try a modern quilt to break out of my traditional mode. This FQ set would be a great way to get started!
ReplyDeleteGreat shop! I really like the Geo designs! Great way to start.
ReplyDeleteWow, I saw the site for the first time on Saturday (from True Up) and was impressed! I know she is just getting started, but hopefully will make plans to have solids added soon.
ReplyDeleteMy best wishes for a profitable business!
The fabrics she has are gorgeous! I'm new to the quilting world and love looking at all of the beautiful fabrics. I don't have any suggestions right now - but the best of luck to you in your new adventure!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat store! I love the cutesy cotton prints (like the one with the birds), and that there's a selection of organic fabric. I'm mostly interested in organic fabrics so my personal suggestion would be a greater selection of those. Also, since I'm Canadian, I'd love to see an over $25 free shipping offer for us as well. :D Most online stores I browse are American and I'm more likely to use them if there's free shipping to Canada.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great start for the store! It looks wonderful. I am considering ordering a few things this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteOh, yay, a new yummy fabric store! Thanks for the tip. I really love her store, some really great deals! And the shipping is fabulous! I'd love to see her carry some Jenean Morrison, though. Looking forward to the newsletter, too!
ReplyDeleteBest to you!
The shop looks great! It looks very professional - like you've been around for a long time. I love the reasonable shipping prices! And I'm so glad that you included an option to search by color. I'm usually looking for specific colors when I buy, and many people don't give that option. The one suggestion I would give is to add a spot to indicate "organic" on the thumbnails on the main page.
ReplyDeleteLove those fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI know its a small thing, but I would recommend the main screen not need to use the scroll bar to see what is on the far right hand side. It just barely cuts off the details, but enough that you have to scroll over. Sorry to be nit-picky, otherwise I think you're on the right track to something great!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!

I love those fabrics- especially the fruit bowl, I'm a sucker for anything blue, green and brown.
ReplyDeleteI liked that Tammy's site is easy to shop- the bold "Fat Quarter" label is very clear and easy to see when looking quickly at all the fabric choices. I enjoyed the shop by color feature, very slick.
I'd love to see a few more organic choices and more fat quarter bundles.
I really like all the different color options that you can browse the fabrics with. My advice would be to shorten the main page a bit because I think folks are less likely to scroll that much.
ReplyDeleteEek is right! Those are great -- sign me up!
ReplyDeleteThis shop looks very promising. I like the modern fabrics and the shipping policy is wonderful. Shipping costs can be prohibitive on some sites.
ReplyDeleteI also like that she will cut half yards AND fat quarters. So many online shops will only sell by the half yard. Again, it can make it cost prohibitive to buy online when you only need fat quarters of several fabrics.
I think she is on the right track. I have bookmarked the site and will definitely shop there.
Great shop-would love some coordinating solids...love the shipping policy!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great online store! I will be back again soon. I really liked how easy it was to navigate and find things. I LOVED the prices!!! The only piece of advice i have is also what I would like to see next: Fat Quarter bundles. I love them and can't get enough of them.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the shop!
Love the fabric and the new online shop, time to get out the plastic and go shopping.
ReplyDeleteher shop looks very professional! i love the layout and the graphic on the front. i am having a problem with some of the photos loading correctly, though. i'm getting an image placeholder instead.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great web!! Her prices are fantastic and the shipping is amazing!
ReplyDeleteShe's off to a great start and I've bookmarked her site.
Thanks for sharing with us and I'll definitely be back to check out more of her fabric.
I love the selection and all the FQs. The color break-out is awesome, you can get pretty specific which is nice especially once you become familiar with a store's selection. I would suggest a couple of new categories of DOTS, STRIPES, SOLIDS, etc.
ReplyDeleteThose are such cool fabrics! I'm glad I found your blog.
ReplyDeletethe selection looks nice, and the site even "talks" partly German - how strange :-) and what a nice idea!
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway,
claudia
Such lovely fabrics and designs. I'm hopping over to Marmalade Fabrics site as soon as I post this. Thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas. I appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that she sells fat quarters of all of her fabrics. Not all shops do that! As a suggestion - I really like it when shops offer bundles of coordinating fabrics from different lines (i.e., not just bundles of all the fat quarters from a particular line, for example). It is really helpful when you are trying to shop online and can't see the fabrics in person.
ReplyDeleteLove that she has Saffron Craig fabrics. I love her stuff. My advice to her is to stay true to her taste and style--don't try to be all things to all people. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI am happy that I found this site. I just got a sewing machine and I am looking for some good fabrics to make some cute dresses for my daughter, Mena. I will definitely share this with my best friend who got me started sewing. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYay, we can never have too many online fabric stores to spend our days browsing through. Her site looks great!
ReplyDeleteNicley laid out site. I like the ability to order a fat quarte if I like. I would love to see us Canadians get a break in shipping. Could there be a break if we spend $50 where Americans get the break at $25? Or is the shipping up north that much more???
ReplyDeleteI really liked that you could choose from many different ways to search for fabric. Especially by colour.
ReplyDeleteHeidi
I love Geo Grand! And I think its awesome she's having so much organic fabric. I'd love to see some solids!
ReplyDeleteGREAT site, loved the organization, and the fact that you can buy fat quarters individually. I saw a few fabric sets, but would add more. I would also love to see solids that match fabric prints. Thanks !
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing a newly opened online shop
ReplyDeleteLOVE - that you have organic
ReplyDeleteLOVE - that you have things set up in coordinating groups.
LOVE- that your prices are very reasonable.
ADVICE - please buy a lot of organics, that's really what I'm starting to focus on and it is still a little tough to find.
Thank you for sharing her great shop I love the fabric and her prices look great too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful shop! And beautiful fabrics! You're right, good shipping too. One thing I would like to see is where are these shipping from? On occasion I have been surprised with sales tax. And it's always nice to know that a little extra time is needed if the package is crossing the country.
ReplyDeleteHer fabric selections are lovely - it's nice to have such a focus on the more modern designers. I agree with the previous comments about adding more search categories as other fabrics are added (ie, stripes, solids, etc.). The good shipping rate certainly makes it more likely that I will buy from her in the future.
ReplyDeleteHi, I like the neat organisation of the website, the organic fabric choices and the option of fat quarter cuts. I would love to see more organics and get an idea of the international shipping prices.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes!

These fabrics are beautiful. My creative juices are flowing just looking at them. Kim G. (kguerrier@strongtie.com)
ReplyDeleteI think that everything about the site is pleasant. I love the incentive..I easily would spend over $ 100 in a 12 month period, that alone will bring back to shop with her. The fabric is gorgeous. I registered already!
ReplyDeleteLiked the assortment of fabrics--different from what I normally see.
ReplyDeleteLiked the organization of the website. Easy to navigate and quick to load.
Did not like that I could not discern where they are located.
Nice website! Woohoo Saffron Craig! What beautiful fabric selections, and your friend must be a gutsy lady to open herself up to all the suggestions and criticisms of the online masses! ;)
ReplyDeleteSince you asked, I wonder if it's possible to sell good quality quilting thread as well? At this point it's increasingly easy to get gorgeous fabrics online in just a few days, but getting 100% cotton thread requires a drive out into the burbs from from home...an errand that gets put off for months. And I haven't found an online retailer who sells it in reasonable quantities. If she did, I'd be a customer!
That material is beautiful. Love all the colors. Would look great in my daughter-in-laws house.
ReplyDeleteI would love to check out Marmalade Fabrics but it is a blank page! Am I doing something wrong? I tried it in Chrome and Firefox. I will try again later.
ReplyDeleteI got a malware notification when I attempted to access her site, then I just got a blank page.
ReplyDeletei would love to check out her fabulousness, but not accessing her site... so sorry this is the comment i must leave - but hopefully it will help re-connect or re-direct us!
ReplyDeletethx for the opp to win the fabrics!
