A Gift to Yourself is a Gift to Others

Today's holiday gift idea is brought to you by Mr. Bruno. Bru looked up at me this morning and with those irresistible eyes told me that I needed some time and he needed some too. Time for myself.
Bruno is wise. Taking time for yourself, to exercise, to pamper yourself, to breathe is not only a gift to yourself, it's a gift to those around you. You're better when you take care of yourself.
I can work a 15 hour day without blinking, but it takes a loving pet to remind me to take a few minute for myself. We walked the property together and enjoyed an owl in flight and two deer in the back pasture. I took time to enjoy the frost on the prairie grasses. I'll have a better day because of it.

Take it from Bruno, give yourself a gift this holiday season.

  1. I'm thinking that you have a wise dog indeed ... glad to hear you took the time walk with Bruno and enjoy nature. That's something I need to do more of. My dog died a few years ago (she was 14 and such a love) and I haven't been able to get back into the habit of taking a walk.
I'll do it today tho, thanks.

  3. Bruno is one smart black lab. My Max is now 6 years old and he is starting to get a white beard.

  4. Bruno is very smart. I've had people make fun of me and my bubble bath each night. Sometimes it's the only time for me. Dogs are the best!

  8. Jacquie - as always - wise words. I took myself to the bookstore today, treated myself to a $5 coffee and a quilting book that I've been eyeing for a month. I was in a bad mood when I woke up today and when I thumbed through the pages of all those books and poured over every photo - oh man, it's what I needed. Taking time for myself is so good, not only for me, but for the 4 people, 2 dogs and 1 cat that rely on me everyday to be me. Thanks, J.!

  9. Maybe Bruno needs to come here for a visit. Sometimes it is REALLY hard to take that time and get out. I did take time for ME today but it was the kind of me time where I meet a couple of friends at a coffee shop. Not all ME time. IT was good for my mind but not so good for my body.

  12. Without those times with my dogs, my life would be unbearable.

They are my shadows and my heart.

glen: even the ones in Doggy Heaven. I miss them every day.

  13. I'm a mental health therapist, and at one of my jobs (doing an emotional health group for teens in rehab), I talked about what dogs can teach us about happiness. And, of course, I brought my Corgi, Ember Louise, to make the case!

  14. Just found you and you have some very sound advice on your blog - partic the bit about maintaining your momentum. I know what you say but it's putting it into practice that defeats me. I will try though because it could make me a better sewist.

  16. I've gotta say it... Bruno is cute!

    :)

My son (almost 20 mos. old) reminds me of the same things as Bruno...to savor life and see all things with new and fresh eyes... BUT he doesn't leave much time for myself. ;)
