An Afternoon with the Chicago Modern Quilt Guild

I had the opportunity to share and talk quilts and quilting with my Chicago Modern Quilt Guild friends on Sunday. I had a blast!
Thank goodness this is a helpful group willing to pitch in at a moment's notice.   Rachel took a great picture of the quilts stacked during the process of moving them from my car! There were LOTS of quilts to tote!
Within minutes they were arranged on the counter and ready for showing.

It was the first time I got to share quilts that are in Quilting Modern.  It felt good to finally be able to let those quilts out of the closet and take them for a test run!

Mary and Sarah held everything for me so I could talk with my hands like I love to do.
Again, the team helped load everything back into the car and our fab president, Donna, even found a wayward quilt that I would have left at the venue. My husband thanks you, Donna.  Our house without Night Forest wouldn't be the same. I'm still working on getting everything put back where they were before.
Thanks to everyone for helping out and to Rachel and Tricia for taking pictures for me.  There will be more events around the Chicago area coming soon, so if you missed the meeting, stay tuned for more event announcements.

And by the way...Marianne of The Quilting Edge, in her enthusiasm for the book, pre-ordered not one, but two (one by mistake) and is generously doing a giveaway of the book on her blog.  Head on over for a chance to win and be sure to stay and take a gander at her quilts.  You might never leave.

  3. Oh, Jacquie, I'm hoping you'll be able to travel to CA to lecture at our local quilt guild. I just emailed the president to see if it might be arranged. I think the speakers are booked at least a year in advance.. so it might take a while. But this post gave me the impetus to hopefully start the process!

I accidentally pre-ordered THREE copies of your fabulous book. I WISH I had had this wonderful resource when I was dabbling in quilting a few years ago. JUST what I would have hoped for. I've already gifted one of your books to a friend who is just beginning her quilting life, and am waiting for the perfect person to gift the other copy to. Congratulations on a wonderful book, and thank you for all of the inspiration you have provided to me and so many others via your blog. There are so many of us out here in cyberspace who feel like we know you as a result.
    :)

  5. Oh, how I wish I had been there! I grew up in Chicago, so naturally, I feel like I am an honorary member of that modern quilt guild too-that's how it works, right?! I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of your book on my doorstep-kinda been stalking the mail carrier. Should be any minute now!

  8. Jacquie, such a great trunk show - what a treat it was to see so much of your work. And like others, I can't leave my copy of your book alone - it's so good. How lucky we in Chicago are!

  9. Hi Jacquie,
I wanted to first say congratulations to you and Katie on your most wonderful book. It is everything that a modern quilt book should be - inspiring, creative, thought provoking, well, you get my point.

Anyway, I also purchased 2 copies of your book on pre-order from Amazon and am giving away one of the copies on my blog to one very lucky person. My blog is
    www.californiadoodlesanddesigns.blogspot.com.

I hope some of your followers will come over and put their name into my give away and be lucky enough to win your book.

Thank you for such a great quilting book.

  10. Jacquie! Thank you so much for presenting this month!! It was absolutely inspiring to see all your quilts and to hear you talk about your journey. So inspiring that today I took it to my machine to do some free motion work... I haven't yet made it through all my margin sketches from your talk though! Ps your quilts are beyond amazing - even more so in person!

  17. I pre ordered your book for a friend who is just starting his quilting adventure. I knew he'd appreciate the modern aesthetic, and the sneak peeks of the projects looked good. When the book arrived I was blown away. I live the way you and Katie have arranged the book into block types. I think it helps people see beyond the specific projects and into the realm where they are designing for themselves. I also love the quality of everything. Lately so many published projects look like they were rushed, or the first thought and not really worked out. Yours look polished and professional and absolutely wonderful. And while the colors and fabrics are definitely contemporary, I really appreciate that every project doesn't look like an add for a particular designer's fabric line, or that you'd have to track down a certain fabric to make the design work. Kudos to you and Katie on a great book (and resource). Now I will probably go buy another book for myself.
