It's something we rarely do because our taste in television run on totally opposite tracks. He being a drama, medical, Law and Order kind of guy and me being an HGTV, Project Runway, Craft in America, Novagratz kinda gal.
Today it may seem odd to be thankful for something that is on television, but CBS Sunday Morning is a place for contemplation, for oddities, for answering questions that I forget to ask but am interested to know, for being exposed to art, music, design, history, pop culture, literature and glimpses into the future.
Sunday Morning is artful, smart, thoughtful, funny and whimsical every Sunday. Today I learned how a pencil is made, its history, and how one man has dedicated his life to sharpening pencils. I gained a little insight into the life of a celebrity and a musician, and learned more about an artist who saw his art turned into a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon. Do you know where Gelato was born and where Gelato University is? I do. I watched a father speak about being thankful despite a tough year in his family which reminded me of all the blessings in my life. The show ends every episode with the sites and sounds of nature and the iconic sun logo which seems to ground me and get me ready for the week ahead.
It's funny how this show sparks conversation between us and in our family. It brings up more questions, discussions and lasts longer than its ninety minute airtime.
As I drive home from Kansas in a car with a malfunctioning heater in 20 degree weather, I am warmed by the thoughts of my family, my sons and my parents, with whom I was able to spend some time over the holiday and thankful to know I have a warm home waiting for me in Chicago.

ReplyDeleteI love CBS Sunday Morning, but rarely get to watch. I love when they go meet ordinary people picked from a phone book and tell their story , do they still do that? We also enjoy the last parting moments of the show, usually a nature scene
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY love CBS Sunday Morning, it's a total tradition for me and my family too...even if we are miles away. My family tries and comes together for Dinner every Sunday and most times something we have seen on Sunday Morning is discussed.

ReplyDeleteI remember Charles Kuralt and Sunday Mornings. We used to watch the show then pack up and find our own experience every few weeks. Precious times.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I often watch that show as well, though we don't watch it as regularly as we should. There is something calming and enriching about that show.

ReplyDeleteWe are a Sunday Morning family as well. I like to watch it sans eyeglasses. It lets me wake up slowly, inevitably after a late night of quilting.

ReplyDeleteWe also watch CBS Sunday Morning with coffee and the Sunday Times. It is on very early out here in the West so I DVR it so I can sleep in a little and still catch it. I loved Charles Kurault too. But Charles Osgood is appropriately East Coast dapper and intellectual. Loved the interview with Christopher Walken a couple of weeks ago. Seemed like such a nice guy after all.

ReplyDeleteI love CBS Morning show for all the same reasons. It is so gratifying that others enjoy it for the same feeling. I learned how nice it is to meditate in silence of nature from the photo journalist at the end of the program. P.S. Your quilting is inspirational too. Thanks for you illustrative words.

ReplyDeleteI love the the Sunday Morning show. My husband and I tape it and watch it later together. There are so many different stories. I am always learning something new!
ReplyDeleteI've been listening to Sunday Morning now for at least 30 years, and I could not imagine a Sunday morning without it, a good coffee (beans ground here), and, on occassion a special home-made meal from one of my favorite breakfast cookbooks...nothin' better!
