It's cold, gray and snowing here and for me that creates a wonderful excuse to stay inside and work. Bruno even cooperates. He would rather snuzzle on my feet than get his feet cold and wet. This weekend is dedicated to getting ready for QuiltCon. My goal is to have all my class materials, quilts, lecture slides and all the miscellaneous things done by Sunday. I'm making a list and checking it more than twice. I'm so excited that it's almost here!
Yesterday I made another sample for my Machine Piecing Hexagons class. I realized that all the other samples are already quilted and I wanted folks to be able to look at the construction from the wrong side, so I made another version of the Hexagon Portrait quilt. This time I placed the "portrait" off center rather than as a center medallion.
I adore the simplicity of this design and the ability to showcase some favorite prints and neutrals...I'm in love with the serene feeling I get from neutrals.
I went ahead and made it a lap size quilt 60" x 70". I don't like making quilts that are too small and for me sort of useless when I'm done using them as samples. It'll be fun quilting this later. I think it'll look great on my bed.

ReplyDeleteIt will be a QuiltCon weekend for me too, as I have to make my labels, sleeves and bags for the 2 quilts that were accepted into the show.

ReplyDeleteSaw you on The Quilt Show yesterday. Congrats on a well done showing. Good luck getting your class work done. A snowy day is sometimes just what we need to accomplish things. Wish I was going to QuiltCon but feel lucky to have gotten 2 quilts into the show.

I hope I get to meet you at QuiltCon...I registered too late for the workshops, but I'm so taken with the lecture schedule and really looking forward to the show! Also, I watched The Quilt Show yesterday - you were excellent! I've been wanting to make my own version of "Not Lost in the Woods" since the first day I read your blog, and I think when the work day is done and the snow starts falling that I might finally attempt it. I'm pregnant for the first time, due in July, and I've been making all sorts of charity quilts over the last year, and now that I need to sew for my own baby, I haven't had the energy. But...time is marching on, and I don't want him to be like the cobbler's kid with no shoes! Plus, the improving just looks like fun...I made a big improv panel for the back of our QuiltCon Austin Children's Shelter quilt using all the scraps from the front (the only sewing I've done in months now), and it was both scary and liberating, and I ended up loving the result. I guess not all of my quilts need to be fussy and complicated! :) Please give Bruno an extra pat and snuggle for me.

ReplyDeleteI am glad you mentioned your Dog Bruno again. You did a farewell 2012/Bruno post a while back and I thought Bruno had passed and I was sooooooooooooooooooooooooo sad for you. I am really happy that you are sewing and your sweet dog is at your feet.

Beautiful. I think I have every one of those prints except the middle geometric. I LOVE the white flowers on the bottom--one of my favorites.
