Sewing A to Z! Review and Giveaway!

Sewing A to Z is pretty much everything you wanted to know about sewing in one book! Written by Nancy Zieman of PBS's Sewing With Nancy fame, this book is filled with sewing info for quilters, everyday sewers and especially for those once and awhile sewers.  It's like having Nancy right there next to your sewing machine!
The book is organized alphabetically by technique which makes finding the information you need quick and easy.  I love quick and easy.  I sew more than just quilts and some of that sewing I don't do very often and frankly, I forget things.  This book helps a sewer like me who doesn't sew a zipper all the time and who needs a quick, clearly written refresher.
There are quilting techniques so quilters will find info they need.
There is lots of general sewing information that I found very helpful.  Needles can be so confusing...what do those numbers mean anyway?  It really is good to know.  Choosing the right needle can make all the difference in the quality of a project.  Nancy explains each topic clearly, briefly, and with effective illustrations.
Sewing A to Z is on a month long blog tour and Nancy kicked it off here.  Check out her post for a chance to win this fabulous prize package worth $450!  Wowsers!
Leave a comment on this post for a chance to win a copy of her book.  Tell me what sewing skill or technique you need to brush up on!  The next stop on the tour is tomorrow at True Up. Be sure to drop by the rest of the stops on the tour to read more about Sewing A to Z!  I'll do the random number thingy on Friday!

  12. I think I'd have to say zippers are the most difficult for me! It seems I'm always ripping out and saying to myself " This could look alittle more professional " I'm really a quilter but I'm addicted to handbag patterns lately.

  13. I have been quilting for over 20 years, and I still don't know how to do traditional applique. That's probably what I should learn next, but I just don't have a strong desire for it.

  30. Thanks for the review! This looks Like a great reference! I think there would be several things I would benefit from, but I've been learning about sewing with knits recently (with a couple quilts going in the background,of course), so I think those are the techniques I'd brush up on first! Thanks for the chance to win a copy!

  161. Oh, I desperately need this book! I learned to quilt a year ago, but I've never learned to sew. Does that make sense? I need basics and a good reference book and this seems like it would fit the bill nicely.
    Thank you!

  179. Does she talk about hemming? I'm getting comfortable with piecing quilts- but I'm challenged on the height scale, and would love to learn how to hem my own pants without it looking like I hemmed my own pants. . .

Good luck with the move! I absolutely adore Chicago!

  180. New to sewing here, so anything in the book will be helpful! LOL I am really afraid of zippers (especially after reading that you can sew over your finger with the zipper foot).

  181. Great looking book, thanks for the review. I used to be afraid of zippers, but got some help from my local quilt guild members in Houston on that so that fear was taken care of! I'm embarrassed to say I've never done a french seam and though I'm sure it's easy I've never taken the time to look at how they're done!
