Insomnia Has Benefits?
I'm not really sure that's true, but when I can't sleep I sew. Some of my best work seems to be accomplished in the middle of the night. Here is what I came up with last night. I saw Wendy's Cathedral Window work on her blog and she directed me to the great tutorial on Hyena in Petticoats (don't you just love that name) and I got inspired to try this and give it a modern twist with some great fabric. It's kind of hypnotic working on this...folding, pressing, cutting, pinning. I haven't done any of the hand stitching yet. It's not perfect, but I'm learning more as I go along. Has anyone made a Cathedral Windows quilt? I'm not sure if I need to stitch through all the layers or just use a blind stitch to tack down the windows. This may end up to be very SMALL or it may go on for years. We'll see!

Oh I like it!!! I'm not sure about the sewing - I've never tried this pattern, but you could frame it and hang it on your wall - it's very pretty. Can't wait to see it finished!

Sooo pretty. I love Cathedral Windows quilts. It is one on my 'to do someday' list. Thank you for the link to the tutorial. I may just have to give it a try.
It's beautiful, Jacquie! I love Cathedral Windows but haven't yet made a whole quilt. Your fabrics are fabulous. You only need to tack down the windows - don't go through all the layers.
I recently saw a large king size cathedral window quilt at a quilt show. It was stunning, in all shades of cream. It looked like it had some depth, so I don't think they were totally stitched down. Now I wish I had studied it a bit more closely.
Jacquie,
WOW...LOVE those colors in your Cathedral Windows blocks!!! I believe you do not stitch all the way throught...it's just a blind hem stitch. Good luck wtih it! it's looking great!

I have never tried Cathedral windows but your start is lovely. Me? I sleep at night--and would during the day if I could! hehe.
Oh, my...this is beautiful. I love the fabrics you are using. It's going to be lovely.
Your quilt looks fantastic!
I'm so pleased you liked the tutorial....
On my quilt, I have stitched through all the layers, because then you get a nice diamond shaped quilted pattern on the back as well. It also helps the keep all the folded layers of fabric in the right place.
I can't wait to see how big it grows - keep up the good work!

(oh, and perhaps I can feel that cool Kansas wind you sent........ thankyou!)
Wow, you are quick! I still only have about 4 windows completely sewn on mine. I'm a late night sewer, too, but I always feel it in the morning when the kids are waking me up.
