Family and A Little Fabric

Despite the stormy, rainy weather we had a lovely Memorial Day weekend at our house. No sailing due to too much wind and rain and no sewing, but I did get a quick stop at my favorite fabric shop. Sarah's Fabric in Lawrence for me is like a stop in an old fashioned candy store where every bin in stuffed full of colorful candy that a child can hardly resist. My task was to buy background fabric for AmandaJean's quilt-a-long quilt so I can get started today. I did get that, but I was weak and I bought a few other things. Michael Miller dots, some Wee Play and a bit of Amy Butler dots. A girl can't have enough polka dots! I haven't bought any fabric for 3 months due to the job mess around here. I have missed it! I think I showed amazing restraint for being surrounded by such a tempting environment! The rest of the weekend was all about family. We celebrated Ben's birthday with a special meal with my parents. The boys were with us for the whole weekend in the country. When there is no TV or other city distractions our kids turn to games. We played together until late into night every night. The best was a full day long game of Risk (the game of world domination!) The longest game the boys have played lasted for weeks. It's a wonderful game that combines strategy and luck as well as a bit of geography. Ben conquered the world from a little stronghold in Australia. Time to head back to the city. I'm rejuvenated!

Ah, Risk, one of my guys favourite games. Glad you had a good weekend and Ben's birthday went well.

You did well in the fabric store...I stopped buying new fabrics several months ago but do think it has affected my creativity or rather my motivation.

We have a long weekend next weekend too...Queen's Birthday celebration.

I love it! I can't wait for my kids to be old enough to play games like that! Love the fabric too.

The fabric is great! I'm looking forward to seeing your quilt along blocks, since you didn't put in a pic of your background fabric. ;)

Playing games as a family is the best. Risk is one of those ones that we usually overlook because it can take so long. Can't wait to see your quilt along blocks!!

cute fabric!

I love playing board games. If you've never played Settlers of Catan before, I'm sure your family would love it. It's similar to risk but there is more room for chance, so everyone can play until the end and no one gets kicked off early. The one and only time I've ever played Risk was at a Tech University with 5 engineering/compsci guys...I was a bit overwhelmed!
