Fit and Fabulous Friday....late

Fitness report: I told myself I'm going to make this public, so better late than never. Made it to the gym 3 out of the 5 days this week. A bit disappointing so I ran this morning and I'm going to try to run tomorrow too to make up for those missed days. I'm still at 20 minutes and about 1.5 miles each day, but I am running a bit faster. I would really love to be up to 2 miles daily by the end of next week. 1.75 might be a more realistic goal. Feeling good, though.

I loved how this quilt turned out, so from some scraps that I picked up at an estate sale I made these. I liked them when I made them, but then they sat on my shelf for a long time...I decided they were pretty boring. Last week I turned them into these and this quilt top. So monochromatic, but I think they are pretty striking. The background fabric is this subtle gray with white pindots. I called them storm windows when I first made them and this quilt has that kind of calm before the storm feeling. The windows are all different sizes and are placed randomly. This quilt is much larger than the first. I'm pretty pleased with it. I'm thinking I'll quilt it with black thread...could be pretty cool!

Speaking of storms...I have to share this with you. Victoria of The Silly Boo Dilly made this fabulous quilt inspired by her feelings during hurricane Katrina. The quilt is stunning, and her story is worth reading. She's an amazing artist. If you have a minute, check her out.

Your quilts have such a strong aesthetic. This will be another stunner, I'm sure.

And "ditto" to your previous post (about education/opportunities in America).

Your right the quilt has that calm feeling. I love the contrast of the black and white. I can't wait to see it quilted.

Beautiful Quilt! I can't believe how fast you get things done. I move in slow motion compared to you.

And thanks for stopping by my blog, it's never to late to help the Nielson's. There is a blue "Donate to Nie" button on my right side bar that links directly to the paypal account set up for donations of you would like to make a donation to them. I am sure they would greatly appreciate it!

It looks great! I love the way you managed to transform it :) Making exercise public is hard but good, it helps having someone to check in with. You're doing great!

I have an award for you on my blog - check it out when you can :)

As always your quilts are fabulous!!!

I think I'd quilt it in a dark grey rather than black, but it's up to you!!!!

Keep on creating, they are wonderful!!!

You are really disciplined about your work-outs! Good for you! Reading these posts keeps me motivated too, thanks!!

The quilt is really striking. The black windows frame the scrappy pieces beautifully, and gives a nice feeling of depth I think :-)
Black quilting thread will be gorgeous (what a brave and bold choice!!!), can't wait to see it finished :-)

I love this quilt! I think I would use white thread, just to keep the stark, yet very striking, simplicity of it going. But that's just me, and I can't wait to see how you complete your vision for it. I know it will be awesome!

Jacquie, what a sweetheart you are! Thank you!
Your quilt top is gorgeous! I love the black and white color pallet and think that quilting it in black could be very dramatic and cool!

I love what you did with the original blocks. They are so much more striking against the plan fabrics. I also adore the randomness of the blocks.

I like the black, grey, & white combination. It would look great in my brother & sis-in-laws house as she has decorated everything in black & white. You'd think it would be very modern but it isn't, and this quilt would fit in perfectly.

The b/w framing really picked this one up. I can't wait to see it finished with the quilting.

I am so impressed that you seem to actually use what you have on hand. I need lessons in being a minimalist. I wish I could better concentrate on using up rather than buying more. Do you ever feel that way?

Great job on your fitness progres...celebrate what you can do not what you didn't. I find that when I beat myself up it is harder to jump back on the saddle. I had a scrumptious eating filled weekend...I started to fret myself and thought...I will get on that treadmill on Tuesday...I did. When, in the past I would have let the weekend of fun eating stretch to a week, then a month and then 45 pounds. Keep up the great work...beautiful quilt by the way.

I'm thinking that when I started reading your blog in the spring you seemed more tentative with your ideas, kind of testing the audience. Now, you confidently show your beautiful art. I like it. Congrats on the fitness. Very important. I also appreciate your post on our country's hope for change.

The subtlety of the colors and fabric in the center contrasted with the black and white is exquisite. Truly gorgeous.
