A Gift and a Show

I'm a proud mama. This is my oldest son's band, The Letter Division. My guy is the one on the far right. They are a fun, talented group of musicians. Sunday night my hubby and I and Ben's Grandma Bev all attended his band's show at the Jackpot Saloon and Music Hall in Lawrence, Kansas. It was a great show and he would want me to tell you that this is the first time they played a show where you could get tickets on ticketmaster. How uptown is that! The venue was pretty nice and they had a really good crowd. The show didn't start till 9:30 (you can tell it's a show geared for the younger set...i guess those kids are just getting up around that time). That's a bit close to my bedtime, but we sucked it up, found seats at the bar and had a ball.

I have had time for a bit of sewing. Did this tablerunner project from start to finish. Maybe I'm turning over a new leaf??? My folks are heading to Canada Thursday and they'll be stopping to see and stay with some family friends in Fargo. Mom asked me to make something for Claudia as a small hostess gift. This is what I made. I hope my mom is pleased and that it's something that will fit in Claudia's house.

The fabric is a combo of Amy Butler, Sandi Henderson's Farmer's Market (I adore that fabric) and some Flea Market Fancy (ooh and Joel Dewberry too thanks to Two Dogs and a Quilt!) I tried to make it fall-like, though I don't much like the traditional fall colors or that dark feeling. The back is the first block I made, which I didn't really like, but I combined it with yellow flea market fancy and it makes a nice back. I used orange thread to quilt it and that thread looks so cool on that yellow fabric. My mom said to make something like me, so I did. I love how it turned out. In fact, I'd love to keep this one. I tried a little something different for the label. Kinda cute.

My mom-in-law came on Friday and is here for the rest of the week so things are a bit topsy-turvey here. Not much time for sewing or blogging. I'll catch up with all of you when things settle down a bit. Till then, have a fab week!

The tablerunner looks GREAT! I believe I see a little Joel Dewberry in there too. I don't blame you for wanting to keep this one, but the recipient will surely love it too.

The label is so great! I love the stitching around it. (And as a redhead, I love fall colors, so of course I'm going to love the orange hues :))

Holy cow! Ticketmaster tickets? Are they going to be in Cleveland or Akron any time in the near future? Let me know - I'd love to go see them!

The table runner looks so good - I love the colors of it - even though I like the more traditional colors, I could see this perfectly in my house too! If I were you, I'd want to keep it too!

Enjoy your week,
Kris

Very nice, she has to love it. It is your signature style.

I agree, getting somewhere at 9:30 is for the young ones. I like to be home before dark, LOL. You have to be proud though, the music industry is hard to break into.

Beautiful! I love the tablerunner. I just can't give away things like that. It was so kind of you to make it for your mom. If you can finish it in one sitting, perhaps I could be inspired to make one for my house!

it's adorable!

I am to orange as you are to purple ya dig?

I don't like the dark-y looking fabrics or the muted stuff much either so fall colors are not my favs....I'm a spring person actually. Where's my Easter Eggs???

Do you know what kind of music they are playing? I can see why you want to keep the tablerunner. Love the label and your stitches are so even. I wish mine were like that.

This is very nice Jacquie. Love the sort of pale fall color scheme. I know what you mean about autumn colors looking too dark sometimes.

Jacquie,
thank you so much for the link you'd given to me :)
Should we sew right from the middle to the left or right in one block? (So the square would be in precisition place)

Love the orange! Wonderful choice of fabrics.

Have you though in compiling some of your projects in a book? It could include some patterns and indications. Your improvisational pieces are so great and you have such a fresh style that I think it should work!

Keep me a copy ;)

Jackie,

I love orange. this is so perfect, and I too love the farmer's market line. I need to get my hands on some, but i am currently on a fabric diet....

Their own gig with tickets and everything!! My oldest would be so jealous, but I'm not telling him. He just spent the afternoon shopping for a new acoustic guitar. What does your son play, or maybe he's the lead singer....That is really cool. Not only would I have been ready for bed at that time, but I probably would have been wearing ear plugs. Sad but true.
Your quilting skills make me swoon!
