Getting in the Swing

I'm getting in the swing in the studio. I'm 2/3 of the way done with the organic line quilting on the Modern Grace hourglass quilt. This one is set for finishing today.
Made 3 blocks for the back of another quilt. Hopefully that one will get basted and the quilting started today.
Phase 2 of the studio table is complete. We have legs! For those of you who asked. The original bed was a platform bed with wheels. I removed the headboard (simply took out a bunch of screws). Then my dad went to work making the legs. He reused the original wheels and he put them on yesterday. My dad is the best....I know we all say that, but my dad can do anything. I think he wears a superman t-shirt under his shirt. He told me he was feeling guilty making me wait for my table....he was busy making a dining table, two beds and bathroom cabinets for my brother. The man is truly amazing!

I'm not sure if I'm going to bother making it "pretty"...filling the screw/nail holes and painting the legs...maybe later. Now I have to order the formica for the top. I couldn't wait to use it. I can baste a baby quilt on here for sure....lots of room to cut, sew, spread out. I love to spread out.
We celebrated Father's Day twice...Saturday night I cooked dinner for my dad, and Sunday the boys came out to celebrate with their dad. They sure have two fabulous models for what it is to be a great dad. Have a great week everyone and thank so much for the welcome back.

Ooooh, almost forgot. I have to thank Amy, Doris, Heather and Angela for adding to my selvage bucket. Thanks all...the quilt is getting bigger with your help. It may not be in the July show, but it's going to be ready for August. My show is running for three months...so I figured I could change out quilts. I want that selvage quilt in there for sure.

    That table looks like it's going to be amazing! Adding casters to it is a great idea.

    I love your table. How high is it? I'm using my dining room table and I want DH to make it a little taller for me. My back hurts. :o)

    that is quite a nice big table! i have a big table to cut on but a little one to sew on... the cutting one is set high so i can use it when standing and the sewing one much lower

    Glad you're happy with the table. What about making a "skirt" for it. That way many sins could be hidden under it, bins, bags, screw holes...

    And you could sew clear vinyl pockets onto the skirt so you'd have handy storage for tools you use a lot while working at the table.

    You know I just love that Modern Grace fabric! I just couldn't get enough of it. Not sure though how much is left in my stash. I think I am running low. Oh well! The quilting you are doing looks fantastic and the blocks for the back of your quilt are just yummy! You certainly do have a super dad. I just love your table! Isn't it great to repurpose something and turn it into something you just really love. You will have many years of use from it!

    Really like the modern grace hourglass quilt! The colors in it are some of my favorites! And I like the fact that the lines you're quilting aren't straight or perfect, adds character!!

    Nice quilting! I like that design. It looks great, it's easy to do (just maybe a little tedious), but no stress. The quilt will be great - hope we get to see it soon!

    I like the idea of the casters on your table. Do they lock? Lucky you!

    Love that table-I wish I had room for such a useful thing.

    I was wondering, how do you wrangle large pieces of fabric like backings? I'm a fairly new quilter and yesterday I stitched up a back for a quilt and pin basted and felt like I was herding cats! Is there a secret technique??

    Your dad is the best! That looks to be the size of my dining table - I don't mind quilting there most the time as I have space to spread out. . .just have to pick it all up again before bed :)

    Ah yes I remember when my studio was clean and sparsely furnished. I remember using phrases like "spreading out" and "room to Work"

    I'm so coveting your table Jacquie. It looks fabulous just like it is. Although, I am a sucker for white paint. I'm so proud of you for recycling that bed! Oh, and the quilt is lovely too! (Can you tell I used to sit and watch Bob Villa and Norm Abrams when I was in college? I would have loved to be a master carpenter except the tools scare me!)
