A Magical Night and Bright Tangerine

Friday's show was amazing. Way better than the July show for a couple of reasons: Jon's music made the atmosphere fun and festive, more people, people lingered and that translated into lots of sales. I was more relaxed too. I assigned photographic duties to my oldest son. Not that he's not a good kid, but a photographer...nope. In 4 hours he took 10 pictures. Here's the only not blurry one and it was taken of my hubby and Jon before the show began. Trust me, it was a fabulous evening. Any one interested in coming to be my photographer for the September show?
Sunday I played with Kaffe Fasset's idea of shirt stripe boxes. I've been collecting striped shirts forever. I used his templates, made my own and I'm still not quite satisfied. I learned that not all stripes are equal. Some work well in this design and some don't work at all. I did a sort of argyle type quilting. I do like that and the bias binding is nice too. I'm not sure I'll be making a larger version. I'm still thinking about it.
I love when the "back to school" items appear on store shelves. There are always such fun storage ideas and usually they come in bright, nifty colors. These were at wal mart for cheap! I have 6 of them on these shelves to put works in progress. I like to keep things sorted and separate so that projects don't get mixed up or lost since I'm always working on so many things at once, this system really helps me pick up where I left off.
I put a couple here to plop things I use often....like all my painter's tape and my rulers and tools. I love how they pick up the colors in the yardsticks on my thread cabinet.
I think I've set a color theme for the studio. I had some 'bright tangerine' paint that I picked up in the paint reject section a few years ago. I was going to get formica to cover my work table (the one I made from the platform bed), but formica is expensive and this seemed like a great solution. So, I painted the table like this. Just one coat done, but I think it's going to be so bright and fun.

Maybe a pale spring green on the walls and some fun fabric for a valance? Stay tuned.

Love the orange! If it were me I couldn't resist a bit of turquoise in there too.

So glad that the show went well, and resulted in sales! Congratulations!

Congratulations on the great show and sales, and my condolences to you on your dear son's lack of photography skills! Alas, I have also learned never to pass the camera to my girls when good photos are needed. (But the one that came out clear is a dandy!)

Love the orange and lime green combo! I have similar storage baskets from Target, but mine are lime green and brown, (I think I may add a bit of orange now, too!)

I'll come be your photog! I gave my 12 year old niece my camera for my birthday party, thinking it would give her something to do as there is no one else in her age group...What you saw on my blog was pretty much what I got. No photos of my friends who came...nothing. Oh well...

Glad to hear things went so fabulously well!

Glad to hear your show was successful. I love those canvas totes. I have them throughout my sewing studio (pictures on my blog http://threadstofabric.blogspot.com) for storing larger sewing notions, tools, and projects. When I begin purchasing items for a specific project, I store all of it in a tote so everything stays together and I don't have to go hunting for anything when I'm ready to work on the project. Nice colors!

So glad to hear the show went well. I have that same photographer problem too. I can never assign one of my family to take pictures, you never know what you will get back. I love the bright colors you are using for your studio, can't wait to see more.

Boys just don't get it! 10 photos in an HOUR?! I'm awful for pictures, I take HUNDREDS! I may have 10 of daughter doing the same thing in her high chair, but guaranteed I'll get two or three work scrapbooking. My only problem is I don't ever delete any! The show sounds like it was fabulous, love the orange paint. Color can make such a difference in our mood!

oh boy do I wish I could come. what's the date?? you never know....

poor thing. 10 pics?? he must have been totally distracted with all the beautiful works of art around him!!

MightyMom said...

oh I will say that I do love your colors....they're not for me..but they're very nice for you.

and

at my wedding reception I had just a handful of teens who I knew would be TERRIBLY BORED at the stand and chat-no food no music grownup excuse of a party. So I bought 5 disposable cameras and gave one to each teen. Here's the important part. Each teen picked a set of instructions out of a box. They were specific.

camera #1 posed pretty pictures of all guests

camera #2 pictures of the Victorian house we were in and all it's decorations

camera #3 pictures of people eating or drinking...the more embarrasing the better

camera #4 pictures of people talking

camera #5 goofy posed or candid shots as silly as you can think up.

The pics I got back were GREAT!! And not a one of them duplicated the shots my professional photographer took!!! (or each others) I highly recommend anyone and everyone who wants pics they don't take at a function to do something similar!!!

So glad your show went well. Lost in the Woods looks wonderful hanging. Too bad there aren't more pics. Oh well I will just have to wait until September's show. Have you ever thought about posting on your blog the pieces that didn't sell so the rest of us who can't make it to one of your shows would have a chance to purchase one of your fab pieces?

I would love to see one of your shows. I love all your quilts. I still tend to make traditional quilts using a pattern but everytime I see one of your quilts, I want to copy it. My teenage son loves the square motion quilt and I would love to try something similar. Yours is mu favourite blog

oooo I really dig your storage idea. I have a problem with working on too many projects at once and misplacing things.

Love the bright orange! Your work space should be bright and fun! Your quilts are beautiful...wish I lived closer to be able to view them in person at a show!

Jacquie, I love your ideas for the color in your quilt/craft room! Those boxes are a fabulously great idea. I came to the same conclusion about the project in a box thing tonight. I had started my scraps to treasure project but need to do my doll swap quilt this weekend, so I'm using a plastic shoe box for now. Thanks for always being such an inspiration!

Those bins - Walmart? Really? Going to have to snoop around the local Walmarts. The show sounds awesome, and we might actually be traveling to KS that weekend in Sept. to visit my folks. Hmmmmm wonder if the family would mind if we made a little stop, and of course I would have my camera with me. I'll let you know if we head that way!

1 - Congratulations on a great show!
2 - Love the storage containers - orange & green are my favorite colors! I might have to venture over to Wal-Mart because I know Target is doing hot pink & bright blue.
3 - Kaffe Fassett's quilts with the shirtings fabrics are among my very favorites of his. Good luck and I'm sure you'll find your way, you are such a talent!

Congratulations on a great show, Jacquie! I wish I could come to be your photographer - what fun that would be! I'm saving all my husbands dress shirts for one of these quilts after he retires - it will be so much fun to make - he even want to help me cut them up!
Cheers!
