Easing In

I'm easing back into the sewing groove. There's definitely a learning curve with a new machine.
I made a bunch of pincushion pillows. I saw these on someone's blog, but I can't find the link for the life of me. I love the idea of a LONG pincushion. I just sewed a bunch of 1 inch strips and with the leftovers made one with little log cabin blocks. Mine measures 4 x 9. I'm keeping one (maybe 2) and the rest are thank you gifts. (It was Sherri's blog...thanks Michelle for jogging my brain!)
I finished this little doll quilt for a friend's son. The back is all Heather Ross dogs...he loves animals. Another thank you gift. I'm REALLY behind in my thank you's...hoping to be caught up soon. I'm in the middle of 5 commission pieces, so those are taking priority. Hope to be doing my own thing again soon.

Those are adorable.
It's just batting/stuffing inside, right? Does that really hold the pins? I always just use my store-bought tomato pin cushion b/c I'm afraid the stuffing wouldn't be enough to hold the pins in place.

Great pincushions.

Question about your commissions. Are you doing them in your style or have the patrons chosen a pattern/style/colour?

I love the pincushions and the doll quilt. I love all your stuff, really. And I totally understand having to do the paying gigs first. I have that problem myself.

Adorable! I love all of those fabrics together.

You're killing me - because I saw those same pin cushions and now I can't remember where either. lol

A long pincushion is such a terrific idea. Love your fabric choices for those and the cute little quilt. Paid work is nice--it helps keep us in fabric--but doing your own things is better.

Okay, so where have I been, you have a new sewing machine?? You definitely have to do lots of sewing. Lovely pincushions. I think they could be addicting. The quilt is just beautiful too. I am sure they will love it.

Love the pincushions. So did you use stuffing of something else? Love the dogs. I'm sure you are going to have a very happy little boy.

love the pincushioins! but it would take up too much space in my sewing basket that I have to put everything away in (sewing machine in full reach of tiny hands)

what's the purpose of those little buttons??

oh yeah, are you DUN with selvages yet? cuz in digging out fabric for my new conquest i came across a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGG selvage of beautiful fabric....the interesting side with the writing.

I know what you mean about the learning curve with a new machine, even if they are made by the same company, they "ride" completely different. It's just like getting the feel of a new car.

The pincushions are very cool, and the little quilt, both adorable and modern at the same time. Great job as always!

That new machine will soon feel like an old glove. Enjoy the newness.

I love the idea of a rectangular pincushion. One could actually divide it into sections for different types of pins.

the pincushions are soo cute! i like the mini quilt, too.

i got my house block in the mail today. thank you so much! i love it!!!

five commissions! congrats! definitely keep 2 pincushions :) that's the best tip I've read in recent months: keep one at the sewing machine for unloading, and one at the cutting table for pinning and then switch the two around as needed. this is not the first time i've wished you were a good friend indebted to me--those are beautiful gifts.
