Settling In...The Bruno Chronicles

I decided to start my day over again, delete the last post, and count my blessings. Thanks for all the kind words. Life is too good to dwell on ugly things.
As you can see, Bruno is making himself at home. He's taken a liking to Fudge's bed. Fudge would be happy about that.
Bruno is quite a dog. He was a trooper at the vet and everyone fell in love with him, no surprise there. He has a few minor medical issues, but nothing that we can't deal with. The vet did feel like he was much older than the shelter had indicated to us. Doesn't matter to us a bit, he may be older, but the vet also said he was in fabulous shape and had fantastic joints and flexibility. That's pretty rare in an old lab. I can tell you that he has the heart of a puppy.
He follows me from room to room just like Fudge did. Does my heart good. He sleeps under the sewing table or under my feet when I'm working. When it's time for a break he comes and puts his head on my knee, I melt. He loves to play...especially fetch...again, and again, and again and again.
He's definitely a city dog. He doesn't understand the country life. Next installment...learning to be a 'country boy'.

  1. Good for you!! It's Friday we should all be happy and think about the fantastic weekend we will have and all the new great things we are going to start and maybe even what we might finish. Bruno seems like our old lab - she would follow me from room to room - along with our golden and our little cat and although I would feel completely claustrophobic at times that's one of the things I miss about her. Everybody should have lab - have a wonderful weekend full of sewing and fetch.

  3. How does anyone survive without a dog? I tend to think they are essential life equipment. I'm glad to hear that Bruno is settling in well...my Buzz (also a shelter pup) sends butt wiggles and wags his way!

  7. Dogs are the best, we lost one of our Bull Dogs a few weeks ago, the poor other Bullie has no idea what is going on, but a new puppy for her to play with will be here on the 10th.

  11. Sorry your day got off to a bad start, but I'm glad you are looking on the bright side. I would love to have a dog, but it's not possible right now. You are lucky to have him!

  12. Oh, he is cute! That was not very nice that the shelter indicated that he was younger, but I am glad he is such a good dog for you!

I am babysitting for a little dog right now and he follows me around like that, too, and it's so cute. Sort of makes me want a dog... almost! (Maybe when all the HUMANS at my house are potty trained we will think about a puppy.)

I read the other post this morning, but didn't comment. I hope the situation can be resolved in a such way in that you don't feel used or powerless. Sorry it happened to you.

  27. Bruno is a beautiful dog...I didn't think I was a dog person until we got our cocker spaniel Georger from a rescue group...what a match to our family. And then, when he was a little stressed at being alone when we went to work/school, we added Voodoo, our black cocker, oh my goodnes, I cannot imagine life w/o the 2 of them in our family! Sounds like Bruno is a fit and that he has bonded w/you rather nicely!!

  29. I miss having dogs around - my parents always had labs but I live in a rented house now so no pups for me. So glad your Bruno has found a loving home.

  30. Bruno is such a handsome boy. I don't know how people without dogs handle the world sometimes. I come home from work and rant a bit, while hubby listens quietly and Tandi snuggles up close and sneaks in a little doggy kiss or two. Then I'm okay again.

  39. It looks like you've made a great choice! I've missed the previous post and I don't know what happened but I'm happy to read that you're feeling better now. We adopted a kitty from a farmer where we went to buy vegetables on holydays. She's very nice and loves to play and to scratch all over, she's making me fool but I'm happy we took her, otherwise... Hey, she's sending you little scratches and meows ^______^

  42. I am behind on everything as well, but took the time today to catch up with my favorite blogs. I am so glad you got Bruno, it's good that he reminds you of Fudge. We adopted a dog this weekend, very spontaneously. She reminds me of our dog Fana that died year and half ago, but this one is a puppy, so keeps us busy... Sweet little boy your Bruno, throw him a ball for me too..
