The Man (men) in My Life

On Friday, June 11 it has been 27 years that I have been with the man in my life. Even with him in another city, we are together. It seems like yesterday that he kept showing up at my apartment around dinner time to see what might be on the stove or in the oven. It's funny that his desire for a home cooked meal brought us together. In 27 years he's discovered I'm not much of a cook. He's the adventurous one in the kitchen. I guess I use all my creative energy in other areas.

I don't really remember what attracted me to him in the beginning, but I know over the years, his gentleness, his commitment to me and to his family, his love for his work, and his appreciation for simple pleasures have solidified my love for him.

Because of him, I know the joy of a dandelion bouquet, a warm hand, a 'shoebox' card, the nightly phone call, and the hug that always comes when leaving or arriving home (we do a lot of that). I married a man who every night he's home checks my bathtub and vacuums out the swarm of lady beetles that have accumulated during the day. I married a man who looks on the bright side, who can pull me out of a slump (no easy task), and who knows how to be a partner with a stubborn, opinionated, passionate woman.
I remember telling both of my children many times that the most important decision they will make in their lifetime is their choice of a partner. I made a great choice. We have created a wonderful, ordinary life together. Ordinary can be pretty wonderful. He helped me create and raise two pretty amazing boys who are starting to make interesting lives for themselves.

Because of their dad, those boys know the value of a phone call, the power of the words "I love you", that a card says more than an expensive gift, and that family and relationships come above all else.

My hubby and I are spending a special weekend together. No work, no one else, just us. It's pretty great after 27 years that all we need is time together.
Happy Anniversary, Buzz!

Happy Anniversary Jacquie!!
I started chuckling when reading how he would come around looking for a homecooked meal - and how you are not much of a cook now! LOL It was like reading my own story about my husband and I!
You are VERY BLESSED Jacquie! And it really is such a wonderful feeling to have the "simple" things, and a partner that knows how much those simple things matter! Congratulations on 27 years (bet it went like a flash!) and here's to 27 more!
Bright blessings!! :D

Happy anniversary and lucky you to get such a wonderful husband but I am sure he got a wonderful wife because it take two giving 100% to make a marriage last. My husband and I will be married 45 years in July and it hasn't always been easy but always loving.

my mum and dad recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary and when i see the way they look at each other, after all these years, well i hope that's me one day.
i loved your bit about wonderful and ordinary - it's how i feel too. what i love best about my marriage is that i'm happy when he comes home from work and he looks forward to coming home, even after all these years :)

Happy anniversary and many more. Reading your list made me realize some of the things that make me love my husband. It's the little things, not the grand gestures, that demonstrate profound love.

That's one of the nicest tributes to a husband I have ever heard. A stable, wonderful life partner is the very best that life can offer.

What a great post, and so true. I have got an 'ordinary' life and agree with you 100%. I would not wnat to trade my 'ordinary' life fro anything! My two boys are just starting their journey (one is 6 and the other is 18 months) but I hope they grow up with the same type of values your two have! Congratulations to you and your husband! (a bit belated I know!)
