What's better for sewing than a rainy 4th of July? And what's better for getting yourself together than making a quilt for babies and parents? The day and the activity combined were just what I needed.
The KC Modern Quilt Guild members are making a set of quilts to donate to a local hospital's NICU and I volunteered to make 12 blocks in any colorway. Vicki slyly assigned me to the lilac/brown group. She knows I don't do purple....a gentle push out of my comfort zone. I used a brown (with alot of gray in it) organic cotton, Kona snow, and some linen curtains from IKEA as the solids and a few purples that I acquired recently. I know, it's more neutrals than purple, but it's a start. I chose to make a quilt like
this one. I hope it's not too un-baby, though I'd sure be proud to cover a little one with this.
I didn't mean to disappear for so long. Thanks for all the emails, prayers and good wishes. I wish I could tell you that I have answers. There are only more questions. No news is good news as they say.

ReplyDeleteYou have a knack for putting colors together that just work! As quilters/crafters we can make a different in the lives of others, even if it's just to bring a smile or show we care. ReplyDeleteYour work is always inspiring to see! I think one other time you made a baby quilt that you put "baby" fabric on the back for baby with the sophisticated top. I thought that was a clever compromise.

ReplyDeleteMy husband also had a some health issues recently and I can so relate to the "no answers, only more questions" position. It seemed every answer we got generated five more questions! Frustrating. But, we got through it and he is doing great now. Sending positive thoughts that you and your husband will have a similar outcome.
So happy to see you post again. Praying that no news remains good news. I love what you did with the purple. I am not a purple person either but this is beautiful. It works!

ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful mod quilt for a baby, Jacquie. I'm sorry you are still in waiting mode and yes, holding onto the no news is good news mantra is the way to go, however I hope that he will receive some answers so he can get on the recovery road soon. Best wishes.

Well, I love purple, but it never would have occurred to me to pair it with brown. I must say, though, you have found the right shades of both colors. Looking really nice!
ReplyDeleteMy brother recently found a peach-pit-sized lump in his neck that didn't go away with antibiotics. CT showed an enlarged lymph node that didn't look good. His doc, however, just didn't totally buy the interpretation and decided to excise it, because a biopsy wouldn't have been enough.
Turns out it was a lipoma (fatty pad) that had wrapped around a lymph node and was totally benign. One case in which CT scans, though very helpful, were not really accurate.
Don't know if this helps or makes things worse, but I'm praying you both have answers soon, and that they are as happy as my brother's.

ReplyDeleteGreat fabrics Jacquie...and your quilt design is perfect. I think 'un-baby' quilts are best. They grow up with the child better, so I think you made a good choice!
