I was supposed to be in Wichita today and tomorrow speaking to the Prairie Quilt guild and doing a full day workshop, but it was canceled due to snow. Bummer, but I'm choosing to make lemonade from that lemony situation, so with a gift of time I decided to do a little late night painting. I'm really into gray these days and I've had these four paint cards pasted to my living room wall for months, unable to decide on the right gray. So, I chose one and tested it in the guest room. I painted one wall and below the window a darker gray and the rest of the room a light gray. The light plays with those grays so much that sometimes they look the same and at other times the contrast is significant. Light is a fickle thing when it comes to color. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. Still can't decide what to do in the living room though.
I've also got some time to work on my KC Modern quilt guild challenge. It's the Robert Kaufman, No Prints Allowed Challenge. It all starts with one charm pack. Here's a hint. I'm still in the design stage....it's changed significantly from my initial idea, but that's standard operating procedure around here. The reveal is at the March meeting. I'm so excited to see what everyone comes up with.
In the interest of full disclosure...the ceiling in this room is still a mixture of the original beige and the light green I tested about 6 months ago...Makes for quite the kaleidoscope ceiling. One thing at a time. I'll be sure and put paint the ceiling on my list of things to do.

Love the 2-tone grey. It looks especially pretty with the comforter on the bed!
The ceiling can make all the difference. I tried gray but it was a very tricky color and it ended up looking like a prison. The gray you chose looks lovely in that room, though. I am itching to paint again...I do a couple of rooms a year.
Well from here the room looks gorgeous! I love that comforter, but I too am obsessed with grey and citron right now! lol

I have two-toned grey in my sewing room, and grey in my laundry room. So relaxing and any color looks great with it.
The transparency you have going on with those pinks and reds is amazing!
Love the grey in the guest room! I also want to paint my living room grey and have been thinking about doing one wall a darker shade but I can't decide which wall :)

no prints allowed?? YIKES AND YOWZERS!! I'm not sure I could DO that!! Even Gator's baby qult is done in "solid" batiks!
I love how paint colors change throughout the day-color is so fascinating. The challenge sounds really neat. Your squares remind me of some of the projects we would have to do in my introductory art classes while I was in college. I love how they look like watercolor washes laid on top of previous colors. It makes me want to pull out my watercolors!
This is my first comment on your blog. I took an art class once & the teacher said she painted her entire home in the same shade of gray but every room took on a different "color" because of the change in light. Some rooms looked gray, some blue, some green. Light does make a big difference! Love the quilt on the bed. Did you make it?
