The Bruno Chronicles - The Many Lives of Bruno

Guest Blogger: Bruno
As many of you know two years ago Jacquie and Steve adopted me in Kansas City.  I was a kennel dog.  I didn't know much about country life, but I trusted these two and learned to swim and hunt and how to chase deer.  Little did I know that I had more learning to do.
Helloooooooooo Chicago!  After a LONG ride in a cramped car I arrived in the windy city, a concrete jungle filled with sidewalks, bridges, more sidewalks, cars, smoky loud trains and dogs...lots of dogs and people....so many people.
I brought a few friends with me to make sure that my new home felt familiar.  At first I needed those friends to feel at home.  I had a lot to learn and not much time to learn it.  At first I stuck pretty close to my mom and was a little nervous.
Let me tell you it's quite a change.  I've had my first elevator ride, gotten to know and love the doormen, learned to cross streets and poop where and when the time is right.  I am bound and determined to meet, greet and politely slobber on each and every Chicago resident.  I've already gone swimming in Lake Michigan and every day I play fetch in my local dog park.  Sometimes I have to share my ball.
The balcony is one of my favorite places.  I can feel the wind, enjoy the outdoors, and look out on this beautiful city.  I'm out and about in the city all the time.  I even saw the Chicago marathon. (I wanted to run too!)
I got some new duds too.  I have a leash and a good supply of poop bags.  No more hiding poop in the woods.  It goes in these bags and we keep the city clean!
Got a new houndstooth collar too...pretty uptown don't you think?  City guys are well dressed and classy.  That's me!
I've learned that as long as I stay with my family, I can live anywhere and be happy.  Thanks to everyone who has been asking about me.  I'm good and learning to be a city boy!

There's just something about a Labby face that makes me want to smooch that muzzle!

I'm glad Bruno is making the transition. Our Ms. Pearl is so finicky I don't know if she would do as well as Bruno is doing!

PS-Love the black and white photography.

Thanks for the smile today!!! Bruno is a beautiful boy. There is something about that shiny black coat I just love, I grew up with a Black Lab named Mickey. :-) I am sure Bruno will continue to do well with the love and support you give him! He is a lucky boy!

Bruno - so glad to here you've settled in so well - we've just adopted a new addition to our family - Mac's, we've had very little info on him but he's starting to settle in well and desperately needs lots of TLC, and patience while he learns to trust us and the lead

Bruno, you are quite the well adjusted dog! You certainly have done more than quite a few people do too. Plus you are handsome to boot!

Jacquie when I transplanted Maya from
the beach in Mexico, to the woods and mountains of NC, and finally to an apartment in Sacramento she too had lots of adjusting to do...as did I.
Your beautiful dog looks like she has adjusted well. Maya does well anywhere I am....
ps. Your daddy is making me a quilt ladder too! He's a gem.

A friend of mines son and his wife have recently moved from NC to Chicago. They have a Great Dane puppy. They love the city and he told his mother that walking the dog was a great way to meet people. I am sure everyone that sees Bruno stops to speak to him.

Bruno, I think your mom needs to make you a houndstooth-inspired blanket or pillow for snuggling. Those Chicago winters are brutal.

What a wonderful story. We have 4 labs, don't know what or how we would do moving to a big city without a huge backyard for them to play and run in. It is 4am, and I just spent 20 minutes trying to get them back inside before they knocked the possum off the top of the fence. Whew,,,,,,

Dear Bruno, make sure you get your nose prints all over those nice windows, just like I do at my house. Have fun in Chicago, it's an awesome city! Love, Nemo (Linda's black Lab)

Bruno,
you are so beautiful and handsome and I'm happy to know that you're doing well in your new home. We made a big trip from California to Portland, Oregon. It was cramped too, but we really like our new home, it has lots of windows too!
from your kitty friends,

How amazing, I feel we have in common a taste for modern quilting and traveling black labs! We adopted Drac, our black lab, from a Rescue in California, moved to Spain a few month later, spending a month in France on the way. Drac hated the long connecting flights, but adapted very well to life here, particularly swimming in the Mediterrean. He is such a good quilting companion, taking a nap on an old log cabin (my first quilt) next to my sewing station! At times he must be thinking that we move and travel too much for his taste, but as you well say , as long as he can come along with us, he is certainly happy.
Cheers,
Fran
