One of the projects I pulled out to work on is the second version of the Supernova quilt from the book. The center medallion has been done forever. I just have a few rows to add to the top and bottom and one column to each side and the top will be done. I can handle that this week.
I love how this quilt builds from the center outward. The fussy cut center...
...then the next layer of color...
...and then the final layer to create the center medallion.
I used a variety of textured fabrics for the background of this version. This fabric is in the center.
This texture is next...
...and this one will be in the outer rows. It'll be combined with another fabric since there wasn't enough of this to finish the quilt. I think the different textures really add to the design of the quilt.
I hope to have a completed top by the end of the week!
The winners of Quilt Scene are Brenna and Kirstin. Please drop me an email with your contact info and I'll get the magazine out to you. Congrats!
That's a really cool use of textured fabric!
ReplyDeleteWow, gorgeous. How sad I am that I missed the boat on that mermaid fabric!
ReplyDeleteHi!!! Love it!!! Love the colors and textures and yes the mermaids!!!! It gives a feel of movement!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, it was one of my favorites in class!! Which was fabulous!
ReplyDeleteOoh, very cool! I like that you've used different textures and limited each texture to its own 'zone'. It adds a lot of dimension. I'm really currious to see how that affects the quilting...
ReplyDeleteGorgeous
ReplyDeleteLove it! And the textured fabrics work great!
ReplyDeleteI agree. The use of the texture is really interesting! Rich! Wondering how you plan to quilt it?
ReplyDeleteReally interesting to see your process in how this quilt is coming together - thanks for sharing (and I love the fussy cut mermaids!).
ReplyDeleteYay-I got to see this in person! It was so fun to talk about the design process with this quilt. The textured fabric is unexpected and adds such depth.
ReplyDeleteCool quilt! Can't wait to get my book and try this one. Where did you get those great textured fabrics; like other commenters I'm interested to see how you'll quilt it.
ReplyDeleteWe all seem to love the texture! What kind of fabric is this? I don't think I've ever seen this much texture in quilter's cotton - this almost looks like a velour or courdoroy - I'd love to have some more details.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what a great pattern, I love it when I can "see" how a quilt is built without reading the pattern (but now that I can afford to do so, I'll sometimes buy the pattern anyway as a thanks for the inspiration!)
Sarah
Super awesome my dear friend!
ReplyDeleteI love the texture! And of course that's a fabulous fabric line. And pattern. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh this makes my heart skip a beat... just so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteme, too, me, too: where/what exactly are those textured fabrics? i am betting the last is a double-layer upholstery fabric, by the looks of it. and will the flower shape stay even after washing?
ReplyDeleteI need to get that Super Nova out from class and finish it up....love yours, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I love that textured fabric. Wondering how you will quilt with those textures - can't wait to see it all finished!
ReplyDeleteIt's even more beautiful in person!
ReplyDeleteSupernova 2 is looking awesome Jacquie! I have my hexies all together for a 68" X 84" except I need another 1/3 yard of the solid "Ice" you helped me pick out.
ReplyDeleteI too would love to know details on the textured fabric. Need to have some!!
