Slicing Away!

Made this before QuiltCon as a sample for the demo that Katie and I did on the slice/insert technique. This quilt is an example of a new variation of the technique that I figured out when making samples. This kind of slicing and inserting require NO matching of seams.  How great is that!

I combined this slicing technique with an adaptation of crazy piecing. I crazy pieced like we do in the book, but I kept all the pieces parallel and perpendicular instead of at angles.
I love the addition of the texture from the straight line quilting.
Had to show a peek of the back too.  That's the last of that fav fabric by Jackie Shapiro.  So sad to see the empty space on my shelf.
This will take its place with my class samples for both the slice/insert and crazy piecing classes.  I might have to make a larger, more usable version for myself.  I could definitely see this in orange!
Oh, and some of you are so on it, you've signed up for my newsletter before I had the chance to post about it.  On the top of the sidebar there's a new link that will sign you up for my newsletter.  I'll be sending out news every once and awhile to let you know where I'm teaching, pattern releases and any other fun news I might have.  If you'd like to be a subscriber, I'd love to have you!

This quilt is beautiful :) How wide are your gray "border" strips?

That's great! Like windows, but less literal. And a crazy-piecing style that tones down the craziness, which some folks would probably prefer. I really love it!

Wow! Now THAT is a "must do" technique!! Awesome! I tend toward the traditional, possibly contemporary, but that is the modern look I could definitely get in to!!! Thanks so much for this post!!!! Hugs, Doreen
