Monday Giggles
One section of my lecture at QuiltCon was about how our family embraces change. For the bulk of our careers my husband and I have spent the majority of our time convincing people to change. Change is tough for some folks, but how people react to change is pretty predictable (people react in a variety of ways). Loads of research has been done about change and one of the foremost experts, Michael Fullan, was in Chicago last week.
His talk made me think about the changes that are happening in the quilting community and within the Modern Quilt Guild. Reactions to change are interesting: some jump in with both feet, some folks bristle, some sabotoge, some embrace, some question, some adapt the new to what they've always done etc.
Michael shared this video to illustrate one of his points about change. The video is called "So, Papa, How Do You Like the New Ipad We Got You?" I thought it was hilarious and thought you might enjoy it too. It's in German, but you don't have to speak the language to understand what's happening here.
Enjoy and have a happy Monday! I'm actually getting to the binding of this quilt today. Maybe some finished quilts to come this week. Yippee!
Ok...Pat shared another one in the comments...not really to do with change, but so funny I had to add it.
It's called "Paper is not dead."
Hope this continues the giggles...

LOVE the video - thanks for sharing (and I do speak German).
Change - certainly an interesting subject: any "Change" quilts from your end?
Love the video and makes me want to share one I saw last week - pretty much along the same lines.

And I can hardly wait to see more than just a peek at that quilt.
Can I just say how glad I am to see you address this in a positive way, not that I expected any different :-)
A friend and I were just talking about this exact same subject yesterday in regards to the quilting community. I for one am a big fan of change, as it brings about innovation, new opportunities, etc.
So is there advice (that you know of) for folks who handle change one way, in working with folks who handle it differently? I think I need some better approaches for that in my life.
LOL!!!!!! You are right, I did not need to even turn up the volume. It spoke volumes enough!!
Thanks for the laugh. Very funny!
That was hilarious. Thanks for a good laugh!
Love the quilt Jacquie!
Thanks for a Mondy giggle!
i laughed out loud at the video. i especially liked when he tapped his sharp knife on it! hilarious! the link to the second video isn't working my dear! ;) xo
LOVE IT!
What a fun way to wake up, thanks
Ha! Both videos gave me a laugh :). Did I ever tell you I was a mental health therapist before my current stay at home mom gig?? I too have studied the change process and one of my favorite parts of working with clients was getting to witness people making positive changes in their life. Wasn't it Shakespeare who said, "change is our only constant." So true!
I have been thinking a lot about changes in the quilting community, both in the big picture and in local communities. I love the videos.
Thanks! I sure needed a good giggle this Monday!!! I am all too familiar with change, always been pretty good at it, but our last move has nearly done me in!
Great videos!
the flow of quilting and what's "right" and "wrong" and "modern" and "traditional" and every opinion is different. i'm just trying to create something original, something i love. dang.
(thank you for teaching me the ladder stitch. i'm still a slow binder, but the end result is gorgeous. xoxo)
OMG, that video is as funny as the paper one. no need to understand German. was going to wake my daughter up to translate for me...no need!
Best to instigate change than endure, tolerate, or fight change. My view is that "dad" embraced change. It just wasn't what Steve Jobs had in mind. But, dad found a new kitchen gadget. Modern quilters instigate change. I embrace them and hope to participate. The moment change does not occur we have decay... like a compost pile ... I'm laughing. Cute video, for sure!
Loved both the videos - sent the links to my techie son.
I just finished watching your lecture at Quilt Con and now I am drying my eyes. It was so nice to put a face and caring personality to your creativeness. I loved hearing the background stories of your quilts. They sound better then reading about them over the years. I hope you get that passport soon and come visit in Calgary.
