Robert Kaufman No Prints Allowed Challenge

Finished this just under the wire for the KC MQG challenge. I chose the charm square set in the pastel palette. I knew that would be a challenge for me because I don't really love pastels. As you can tell it was difficult for me to stay with pastels only. The challenge rules allowed us to add as many solid fabrics as we desired, so I did.
I'm happy with how it turned out though there are loads of things I would change if I tackled it again. I'm not going to list the faults or the imperfections because I'm trying to get away from always talking about my quilts by what I'm not happy with. I do love the composition and I think I did a pretty good job with the colors. All in all it was a fun challenge.
I'm pretty happy with the quilting too.
The challenge was to use every color in the pack...this bit of green on the binding simply didn't fit in the piece, so this is where it ended up.
Kona solids are an amazing set of fabrics to work with. I've grown to love them and I'd love to have every color. My friend Tammy at Marmalade Fabrics has that same goal. She's hit a milestone this week with over 100 of the Kona colors. She's having a little celebration and is giving away a dozen fat quarters on her blog. Pop over to the store and start or add to your collection of Kona colors and then head over to the blog and enter the giveaway.
Happy Friday everyone!

  7. congratulations on another outstanding finish! I really like your composition and you used the solids to fabulous effect. Gorgeous quilting finishes it off beautifully. My solid charm pack for the VMQG challenge is sitting here, taunting me. I've yet to find my inspiration though. Thanks for sharing another wonderful piece, Jacquie.

  18. Gorgeous! I love the way the brights and pastels play together, love the design and your quilting.

I'm a very new quilter and have a question - do you "bury your tails" when quilting? Reverse a stitch or too and trim closely? I love modern scrappy quilts and think I am a lazy quilter, because hand stitching binding and burying tails just do not appeal to me. I love the way they look though!

  23. Breathtaking is all I can say. You are amazing in all that you get accomplished. How do you manage?

Can you give us a timetable for creativity? I always thought you were invincible until I read your blog about your son's quilt that fell apart when it was laundered. It made me feel that you were in fact human.

I've followed you for so long and have always been impressed with your work. Tell us, how do you do it and when did you start on this creative process?

  30. Another stunning quilt, Jacquie! I admire your challenging yourself with the pastel palette - that would be the hardest one for me too.

Our AAMQG challenge just started and we are allowed to add up to three fabrics. I chose the Dusty palette but am still mulling over ideas.
