There's something about hexagons that I like. There's nothing terribly modern about sewing a bunch of hexagons together, but I did try to get a random layout and avoid the "grandmother's flower garden" flower shape, though a couple slipped in there.
I used some of my favorite gray prints along with kona snow, white and pale flesh. I like the lightness and depth that the two shades of white create. Pale flesh is the perfect baby pink, soft and gentle. I bound it in the pale flesh as well. If I would have had a baby girl...sigh.
I'm pretty happy with how the hexagons came together. I'm not perfect with the machine sewing technique, but I'm definitely developing my skill level. This won't be my last hexie quilt!
it's beautiful! Love the colors and the calm.
ReplyDeletethe colors are really perfect together in hexies. love this quilt!
ReplyDeleteI really like this quilt. That pale flesh color is a super counterpoint to the other neutrals in the quilt.
ReplyDeletelove the fabric combinations!
ReplyDeleteReally sweet combo of fabrics and quilting!
ReplyDeleteThis is really beautiful. The palette reminds me of vintage hand-tinted photographs. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteAre you going to let us know how you pieced the quilt? Hope so....
ReplyDeleteit's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! So peaceful & calm.
ReplyDeleteVery calm and restful. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the layout! Hexagon can be modern! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job, a nice modern twist with a classic block. The quilting is terrific.
ReplyDeleteVery soothing- lovely work!
ReplyDeleteI love the quilting you did!!! It finishes it perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat vibe! I need to learn how to sew these!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous work, Jacquie.
ReplyDelete...I agree with what piece peace said about the flesh color. About the imperfect quilting. I kinda like that it's not perfect, that the waves and curves are not equidistant or in synch. The sewing perfection and perfection in in the shapes are enough already. Makes it more interesting and executed by a human.
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful. Very soft and calming.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, I love the random placing of the fabrics and how it's worked out
ReplyDeleteOh to be rid of UFO's to be able to play with something along these lines ;o)
I usually hate hexie quilts. You've changed my mind!
ReplyDeleteWell... if I have a baby girl...
ReplyDeleteJust kidding. Love the mix of fabrics here.
love to know more about how you pieced this together since you said it was machine pieced. Just beautiful...love it!
ReplyDeleteI love how the Pale Flesh plays with the pink in the Habitat fabric, but neither of them are so pink as to be distracting from the overall palette. Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love all that you do!
ReplyDeleteIt's just lovely! Did you quilt that yourself? The little waves are perfect.
ReplyDeletehi kate...yup i quilted it....the waves aren't perfect, but i think that's what makes it wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThere is one obvious "grandma's Flower Garden" in the lower center. I notice that nearly all of the rest of the quilt and organization (except the cluster in upper right) of the hexies there is always a pale flesh, cream or light grey positioned to interrupt the dark part of the design creating the "...garden". It's like a maze ... Anyway you travel there is an out.. except with that lower center "...garden". In a way I think for this small piece the "...garden" adds to feeling of solid composition. I am I explaining my observation well? LOL! Oh well!
ReplyDeleteVery cool.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is Awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the colour . It all looks so neat
ReplyDeleteYour color choices are wonderful. I recently finished a 1" hexagon quilt (sewn by hand) with about 950 hexes in it. I would love to make one on the machine ~ it would definitely go a lot faster!
ReplyDeleteBeauiful...now I simply must do hexagons. Thanks for sharing the link to the video the other day. I watched it and learned!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a beautiful quilt. A fresh, soft, calm take on hexagons. Terrific!
ReplyDeleteDebbie R.
What a perfectly restful combination of print and colour. Beautiful!
ReplyDeletei love the color combinations! love!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the quilt.
ReplyDeleteJacqui, how is that you outdo yourself with every new quilt. When you started out, did you use patterns?
ReplyDeleteI just bought my first one today. I've taught myself how to quilt.
in my opinion, only you could make a hexagon quilt look fabulous.
