The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater marks its 50th anniversary of bringing African-American cultural expression and the American modern dance tradition to the world's stages. Kansas City is the second home of AAADT. Our children and our community benefit from the commitment that this group has made locally. I reaped the benefit both Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. (the photos are not mine, but from here.)
joy, grace, beauty, and a filling of my spirit.

wow!
OK so I was just reading this post, and you talked about Kansas city. I thought, hmmm weird - isn't she in California? I look over at your profile on the sidebar and sure enough, Kansas city! I can't wrap my head around the fact that you aren't a CA girl! Why would I even have thought that?? I suppose the 'Praire' part of your blog name makes sense now lol!
The photos are amazing btw. That would be a specacular show to see.
Looks very joyful Jacquie
Katy took the word right out of my mouth. Incredible photos!
I'll repeat the Wow from other commentors.
These pictures are outstanding! This had to be such an amazing experience and you got to see it twice! Neato!
Lucky you! And having participated in umpteen musicals throughout my youth, your post title took me right back to high school! I'm humming "One" as I type...
Fantastic! I love to watch Dance in many forms. This looks great.
I studied ballet, toe, modern, for 15 years growing up. And now... I don't stand up straight like I should, I don't bother to hold my tummy in tight, and I'm a glutz. Enjoy your memories of the evening!

how lucky! i have no one to go to see performances with, and i just don't see the purpose in going alone. maybe i'll have to get over that!
also, some of the positions boggle my mind. does the human body work that way? are they dancers or contortionists?
anyway. :D
How amazing! I've never been to the ballet, but it's something I'd like to do.
You sure did have a full weekend! The images are beautiful - I can only imagine that the movement must have been so much more beautiful. I wonder if there's a way to translate ballet into a quilt. . . hmmm
It definitely looks like something that I would like to see. I remember hearing about them years ago, nice to know they are still doing their thing! Sounds like you had a wonderful time on 2 occasions.
Amazing! Glad you are able to enjoy this wonderful art.
Now that is Art with a capital "A"!
They give the poses a look of sculptures.
I love the ballet and could watch it for hours on end. When we lived in Ottawa, we used to go see the National Ballet Co. all the time. This time of year I still miss "The Nutcracker".
Looks like you had a feast for the eyes and senses. AND got to see it twice. Lucky you.

I am so sorry about your country home being broke into. At least nothing seriously bad happened like a fire. But the ballet pics are so beautiful! Wish I could move like that!
fun day!!
