When Shane took this picture at the Star photo studio, I thought it would be a little picture in the corner of the House and Home Section, but wowsers, a full page color pic of the Life in Technicolor quilt. Dang!
Yup, that's my quilt on the cover of the House and Home section of the Star. I'm shaking and beaming all at the same time.
I'm grinning like a silly school girl in this shot, but quilts make me happy. Lauren, of My Aunt June fame, looks so serious and focused. Lauren, how did you become serious and focused all of the sudden? We are quite the contrast of modern quilters, young and hip, and experienced (aka old)....I think it's great that as modern quilters we're kind of a soup to nuts kinda group and we all have a place.

I got quite the look from the clerk at my local convenience store when I bought a stack of papers about as tall as I am. He said I must be "into" news. I said, today I am!I couldn't end this post without thanking the many folks who have inspired and supported me over the last three years, many of them are mentioned in the article. I never could have imagined something like this for me or modern quilting. We've come a long way in a short time!

I totally "get" buying the stacks of papers. A year ago, the L.A. Times writer and photographer came to our rental cabins on the lake as we were closing down for the season, spent the whole weekend, writing/photographing. When the paper came out, I thought we would be stuck somewhere in the travel section. But we made it to the front page (!) of the L.A. Times--and didn't even have to commit a crime to be there! It was very exciting and I bought every single copy at Borders.

Congrats, Jacquie! I am so "proud" of you. Your blog is one of the first I followed as I began my quilt journey. Also, I started out as part of the KCMQG, but living 2 hours away and having a job, I had to drop, however, it is still in my heart! It is way cool to see the guild getting this kind of publicity. I enjoyed reading the article! You are a fabulous ambassador for modern quilting. I wonder if you'd talk more about "knowing the rules before you break them". I admit I had a strong reaction to reading that. I guess I can see both ways. I want quilters to know the different approaches available to them without feeling like only one way is "right".
