Stumped Again

All the blocks are complete, sewn together...ready to add the red borders. ARRRRG...the red fabric I set aside for the borders is a different red. I can be such a doofus! So, plan B...white borders...it's ok, but maybe something else...a scrappy inner border...a white inner, then scrappy, then a wider white border...or just the white...or something altogether different. Thoughts? I'm stumped. Maybe I should search for the red...

For what it's worth, I like the first picture with the white, scrappy and then white again.

I agree -- the first picture. And then why not add a scrappy red binding? I think it will look super. Maybe use red thread for the quilting of the wider white border?

Tina said...

My vote is for the 2nd picture. I like the idea of a red binding too.

Trisha said...

I like the second picture with the scrappy right next to the quilt. Then I would do a solid red binding.

Tine said...

What about white inner border, and then a scrappy outer border, and either red or white binding?

Jeanette said...

I like the white, then scrappy. I would hesitate to put another white strip along the outside because the edges of the quilt is always where it gets dirty, know what I mean?

I absolutely LOVE this quilt! I am planning a red and white churn dash as we speak, have been collecting fabrics for about a year now.

Can't wait to see the whole quilt finished!

I also vote for photo number 1 - white, red scrappy, white again. And I also agree that a red solid or scrappy binding is the way to go! That said, I think all of the combos look great and I'm sure you'll love the end result!

Hi! I like the first picture a lot, the white, scrappy, white. And, in answer to your question, I have four weeks to my due date, yay!

White, scrappy and white with a red scrappy binding is my vote! This turned out really nice!!

Scrappy in the first one. The quilt is beautiful!

I like the first one, and like catherine said, add a scrappy red binding. that would be a beautiful touch to the edges of the quilt. but you know, with red and white, you really can't go wrong, any combination you use would be beautiful.

Oooooh....love the white then scrappy red border!

Don't you just love happy accidents?

Heidi said...

I don't like the all white border, but it is a toss up for me between scrappy border next to blocks and the white then scrappy border.

Maybe if the white border was a smaller width; or mixing runs of scrappy with runs of white for the border. Then a solid red binding.

The scrappy border next to the blocks is really working for me. I am picturing some white sashing and then red binding. Nice work!

I like the white inner border, then scrappy border. It sets your work of very nicely.

Reds are tough like that, sorry to hear, but I think white borders will look great, too!

Oh, I'm stressed just thinking about it. I know whatever you choose to do will look fabulous. I do like the red scrappy border a lot. To go white or not is a question. I love white and use it a lot but I also know how dirty a long strip of white can get....but then again I have boys. Good luck.

I like the white inner border, then the scrappy one, and I think a red binding (scrappy, maybe) to finish it off.

I love the scrappy border - but then you know I like to add as many fabrics as possible to a quilt :-)

I love the scrappy, if I were using the white I think I'd make it slightly narrower. Love the idea of a scrappy binding. Red and white my favorite combo.

Reds go with reds! I love the first picture and I think a scrappy red binding will look great! I don’t think you can go wrong with all the reds. I guess you’re too focussed on the different reds now.

I think I would probably do a white border and then bind with the scrappy red bits.

Great looking quilt! It would be hard to go wrong!

This is going to be beautiful! I love the first picture ... white, scrappy, white. No matter what you decide, it's going to be lovely.

i really like the scrappy with the white inner border. very nice. i love the cheeriness of this red and white quilt.

Nichole said...

i vote for the first picture. :)

Jilly said...

I like the first photo, too, as well as the rest of the quilt.

KateKwiltz said...

I like the first picture! But can't you use some of your "wrong" red in the scrappy and then use it for the binding?

I like the first picture - so clean and crisp looking!

I like the white then the scrappy then the white as in the first image.

jovaliquilts said...

I like the white and then scrappy. Leaving the white off makes the quilt really dark.

I love the first pic - it is looking great Jacquie! I just love red and white together - so cheerful.

I like the first picture if you need the extra border to make the quilt bigger. If not I like the second with the scrapy right next to the quilt with red binding. I like saturated red quilts. As someone else mentioned, an outer white border can get pretty dirty.

sclangs said...

I think the first picture too. With a definite red binding (scrappy or just plain 'ol red)!!

Dawn said...

I LOVE this quilt and my choice would be pic #2----but whatever you choose will be gorgeous as always!

woolywoman said...

Does it need a border at all? There are a lot of reds there- one more would work out, I bet.

Kim said...

I like the white and then scrappy idea, looks sharp! Red binding on the scrappy border...good luck!

Well, I am not sure what advice to give, but I do know that I love the quilt so far!

Unknown said...

I really like it with a border - either one looks great! :)

MightyMom said...

I like the white, scrappy, then put a bright purple outer border and binding!

ok, I'm in an odd place right now..what can I say???

susan said...

i like the scrappy border with white either side
and i also like the idea of a scrappy binding

May Kristin said...

I like the scrappy border the best, I also like the white inner border, but I think I would make it narrower than the scrappy one. Good luck with your choice. It will look great!

Peg - Happy In Quilting said...

In my humble opinion I think number one is the way to go...

Amelia said...

First picture - by all means. To me, having the white border lets the eyes rest before going to the scrappy outside border...then a larger white border...then a red binding...well, that is what I would do....love the blocks - simple yet powerful in design.

Have a cool day...

I like the white inner then the scrappy outer. But I have an all together better solution . . . just send the whole thing to me and start over for the gift. :)

Pat at Bell Creek Quilts said...

I like the white, scrappy then white! and agree, a scrappy red binding would pull it all together again. Can hardly wait to see the quilt finished!

I vote white inner, then scrappy. It looks great.

And I love the guest blogger from the previous post. Nice to have such a cutie hanging around.

Cheryl Arkison said...

I would vote for no border, but that is a particular bias of mine.

MichelleB said...

Well, I kind of like the second picture - but I can see I'm in the minority. LOL However, in real life if the reds are that off (which they don't look in the picture) you probably want to go with the first picture.

Jackie Russell said...

I like the first one too.

Jodi Nelson said...

Oh goodness. I only read a few comments. But I'm kinda likin it without a scrappy border. The pattern doesn't seem "scrappy" to me. ?

Lovely, I like the thin white, scrappy then white. Very pretty!

Sara said...

I like the white, scrappy, white. But that's just me!

Liz said...

My vote is for photo number one!

I have been reading your blog for a while now. I have just started to quilt. Your quilts are all so beautiful! I like the first one with the white, the scrappy, and the white. I think that it adds nice contrast!

audreypawdrey said...

I love the way this quilt is going. My vote would be for the white, then scrappy, then white.

Anonymous said...

I am thinking this is a very pretty quilt. I would go with a very small white inner border and then the scrappy red border; and I like the idea of a red binding.

Helen said...

I'd do a white inner, then scrappy, then a wider white border. So many choices! Either way it will look stunning!

Darcie said...

Holy Toledo...56 comments and counting! I'm sure you need just one more, don't you Jacquie?!

I love the 1st pic...and the 2nd. The more that I stare at the 2nd...the much more I like it!!! I can see why you're torn.

Good luck!!! It is adorable!

So, opinion #58. Just a little late.

I like the white, then scrappy. Bordering a 2-color quilt with white gives me a feeling of incompleteness. I think a white binding would do the same thing.

I vote for the first one, i really love this quilt, you did such a beautiful job!
