Resisiting the Temptation

Oh, I am not good at not starting new projects. My head is swirling with ideas itching to get out. I wonder how long this self imposed ban on starting projects will last?
For today...two more finishes. First, this table topper. It was simply a block that I was experimenting with...I hope a bunch of these ovals will make their appearance in a quilt someday. I've learned from Tonya, not to toss these experiments, but to make them into something useful instead. This one appears to be meant to be paired with my lime green vase. Flowers would be a nice addition.

The quilting on this one was inspired by Victoria's work. It was definitely harder than it looked. I do like how it gives the center of the piece some interest.
Finished my coin quilt too. I should make more baby quilts....so much easier to quilt. This has my fav color scheme and so many of my very favorite fabrics.
I love the additional row of coins on the top and bottom.
The quilting is a ribbon like quilting...sort of the same as this quilt.
The back is pink with another row of coins. Love this one...it's going into the show this summer. Hopefully someone will buy it for a sweet little baby girl.

i love that first piece...both are gorgeous, but the table runner is singing to me.

I love them both, but the coin quilt is stunning. The quilting makes it.

fabulous!!!

Make a list of all the new projects that you think up...then just keep working your way down your list...

OR DON'T because then you'll be like me with 15,000,000,000,000 items on your list of things waiting to be started....

I just wanted to say, I so love the colors in the table topper and your quilting on it is so precise looking. I love your coin quilt, so need to make on of these, just a lot of little pieces, what sizes where your pieces?

I spent the weekend finishing too! It was a terrific feeling. Love your projects but I'm especially fond of your table topper.

Oh wow....I have a 'round thang' too...only mine is in 'hot' pink instead of soft green like yours. I haven't thrown it out...I get it out and look at it accasionally. I really like yours!! I LOVE the 'coins' quilt....the quilting is wonderfully wavy!! It looks sooo inviting laying there in the warm soft sun across your chair!!

I suddenly have to laugh about the text above the comment box...
So, what are you thinking?..

That you are so inspirational and that I love your tabletopper soooo much. And your coin quilt. And the quilting. And the back.

So, what do you think about this comment?...LOL!

I love that coin quilt so much. I'm itching to do a blue/red/pink quilt and your quilt is so inspirational.

lovely quilts - I love doing small ones too; probably indicative of mild adhd...

I love them both! I really like your table topper. The quilting is very nice. I can imagine that it's harder than it looks. Straight lines always are!

And the coins quilt is great, too. I love having the background pieces between the other fabrics. And the offset. Awesome!

Working hard on my finishes. I have one done (a skirt for my daughter) and am about to start the handwork on the binding for a class sample. Yay for finishing! A finished quilt is better than a perfect quilt, as they say.

I love them and I tend to toss blocks if they do not work, I need to re-think that! Your quilting is amazing, I love a quilt with a lot of quilting!!

I like your single girl block/topper, but I LOVE your coin quilt! (I am amassing a little pile of those colors, too, but I don't know what I will make out of it yet.)

I bet some sweet (lucky) little girl will love that quilt!

Your quilting skills are crazy good! I am so envious of those wavy lines. Beautiful! (I love Victoria's quilting, too.)

The coins are darling. I also love the fabric you used.

I love the table topper; the quilting is wonderful!

One day, hopefully soon, I plan to make a coin quit. Your quilt turned out so nice.

Fantastic job as always. I love your table topper. The quilting is effective. It is contrast that draws the eye. Luv it! You're fabulous! Have a great week!

What a great idea to not throw anything away!! I always use my least favorite fabrics to try things out and then chuck them when they're done...I'm going to quit doing that :)

Both finishes are beautiful!! Amazing work.

wow! The quilting on both of these projects is amazing! I love how you work with color and patterns. Your work is always so inspiring!

Julie said...

wow
love the table runner and also love how you quilted the coin quilt.
the quilting on the coin quilt is that a stitch on your machine?
also the table runner is that an actual quilt block with a name or is it made up?
thanks julie

The table quilt looks like it was made just for the vase. I love it! Also love the coin quilt.

I am in the exact same place, treading water trying to think of what I want to do next. As a slow hand sewer I can only do one project at a time start to finish or I feel overwhelmed. I wanted to do a bed quilt for my son, but my husband is making me feel guilty that i've never made US a bed quilt!

amylouwhosews said...

Love both of these! I really want to make a coin quilt too. They are so cute! And I like the ribbon quilting. I haven't really machine quilted yet, maybe this would be a good place to start?

I had to start a new project today - only because I had to and I finished it in under an hour. My ironing board cover was ripped and I needed to make a new cover. I've had the fabric and needed to do it for a while - does it count as a UFO finished?! It's super cute and now I'm ready to work on some old projects that need to be done.

Thanks for inspiring us!

Absolutly gorgeous quilts!!!

i love the colours in the coin quilt too. i find it hard to source those kind of fabrics here - mind you I only really get to go to one quilt shop and I find it hard to buy online as the colours are not really 'true'.
I love the oval you made - was it hard to piece it? Emily has decided she wants a double wedding ring quilt for her wedding and according to her I have to make it!!! (she is 15 and currently single so I have some time) I'm not sure my skills are up to that though.

I love the color scheme, and the quilting on both of those great projects! Well done! Did you do the ribbon quilting freehand and/or free-motion? I'm inching closer to trying to obtains some free-motion skills. Great work!

I absolutely adore that quilt - the colors and design.

two beautiful finishes, jacquie. i agree, the temptation to not start another project is hard to resist. i think i have about 5-6 quilts in my mind right now and i find that whenever i think about them, i feel the need to start cutting some fabric immediately.

They're both beautiful, Jacqui! I like how you turned a single block into the table topper.

It's hard not to start something new, especially when you're afraid the idea might leave you with the morning light!

I can't decide which one I prefer, they are both so lovely. I enjoy doing the ribbon type quilting, so easy just to flow along.

Both quilts are amazing. I love the blues and greens of the first one! They go together perfectly!

I love the quilting you did on the table topper, the colours are beautiful too! As is your lovely coin quilt.

I just blogged about my coin quilt as my favorite for Quilt Festival. I have the same feeling, that you can showcase fav fabrics.

Good luck on sticking with your month. I was already trying to do that and ended when the bag that was left was to Winter in colors to do right now, at least that was my excuse.

Anina said...

Lovely, just lovely. And I'm with you on the "not starting new projects" problem. I really want to just finish what I have but I have SO many ideas for new things!

Nanette Merrill said...

Stunning work Jacquie. Love it. The topper is sweet. I feel the same way - hard NOT to start something. The coins can be time consuming when you do them like that. But it ended up so wonderfully.

Lisa said...

jacquie, your topper is gorgeous and the quilting is divine!!!!!! it must have taken some time to do all those lines!

Jacquie, you are just finishing left and right. They are beautiful.
Excitement on our end, hope to get more finished by the end of the month.
I think it is in our genes to want to start new projects when your so creative. We don't want to blow a fuse up there.

Gorgeous finishes, Jacquie! Both color schemes are so refreshing and Spring-like.

(Are you sure that you can't treat yourself to a little bend in the ban?!) ;-)

Two beautiful works. Good luck at not starting anything new for a while - that is so much harder than you think!

I agree with Tonya about finishing your experimental pieces - so much better that way and what a lovely little table topper!

Your coin quilt is so fresh and sweet - perfect for little girls or adding that soft touch.

Cheers!
