A New Look Deserves a Giveaway!

On Saturday I cleaned the house and the studio needed some serious cleaning.  Dust dinosaurs had taken over the room.  Deep cleaning means moving furniture and since I created chaos with my cleaning I decided to rearrange a bit.  You wouldn't think there would be many possible arrangements in such a small room, but I was bound and determined to try something new.  I also needed to create some wall space for this new quilt, so moving my bulletin board turned into a whole new look.
First I had to get some quilting done.  Around and around I quilted!

I quilted echoed wedges in the center and then quilted concentric circles on the colorwheel itself and out to the edges of the quilt.  That is some dizzying quilting!  The quilt finished at 60" x 60".
I chose to do a ROYGBIV binding from shot cotttons and crossweaves.  I think the binding makes this quilt!

I think it's perfect hanging in the studio.  So inspirational!  Makes me never want to leave!!  Do you see my orange desk?  Yup, orange!  It's a steelcase desk that I found in a vintage store in my neighborhood and it makes a perfect cutting table.

I think I can sew in this room!
So, let's have a little fun with this giveaway.  Kristin, of Sew Mama Sew, is offering a $20 gift certificate to one of my readers.  Sew Mama Sew has done so much for the sewing, quilting community with its fabulous blog and forum.  Thanks Sew Mama Sew!

I've made a lot of quilts in the four years since I started this blog.  I've given loads of quilts away, but I've kept some too.  Your job is to guess how many quilts I have in my apartment as of today.  Finished quilts only, tops don't count.  Only quilts made by me count and to qualify it has to be larger than 12 x 12!
First person who guesses the right number or comes the closest wins!

Have a great week everyone!
PS...I'll announce the winner on Wednesday.

    ReplyDelete
  12. 43? And your new quilt looks fantastic! Definitely inspirational!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I LOVE your color wheel! I have been wanting to make one for a lap quilt - this may be my inspiration!

PS love your blog and your beautiful work!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am sure you have more than I do- 19? They also probably look nicer.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Beautiful quilt and the binding is perfect! All of your quilts are so lovely I'd have a hard time parting with them, but I'll guess that you have 33.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 16 is my guess! Love the binding (and everything else about that quilt!)

    ReplyDelete
  22. My guess is 42.

Jacquie, I've just started to do quilting and I love what you did on your colorwheel. Can you please tell me a little about it. What kind of thread (and weight) do you use? What is the stitch length? What kind of a stitch is it (it appears to be some kind of a decorative stitch - not the typical stitch #1 - is it a stitch that mimics a hand stitch)? I appreciate all you are willing to share.

    Dianne

  23. OK, my first 3 guesses were taken (HURUMPH!)Soooo, I will go with 10? Thanks for the opportunity!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am going to guess you have 16... with your recent move I imagine you've had to downsize to a lot less storage space. :) Love your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Dianne,
To answer your question, all the quilting on this quilt was done with a straight stitch. I do increase the stitch length a bit for straight line quilting. On my machine I set it at 2.8 while for regular piecing I use between 2.0 - 2.2. I love aurifil thread and that's what I primarily use for quilting. It's a 50 wt. cotton thread. I hope this helps.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I know that you just moved so I'm guessing you pared down even more... I'll guess 10. Love your studio.

    ReplyDelete

    Love your quilting studio!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  33. I give all of mine away so I am going to guess 11.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is a hard one...it could be super high or super low...I am going to go with 20!

Beautiful quilt! Is there some sort of formula for figuring out how large or what angle to cut wedges in to make them fit into a circle? Or did you just wing it? IT IS AMAZING!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. That is a tough one! 20?

Love your color wheel. I have a paper one hanging in my studio. I need to make one of these!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I still need to do a color wheel quilt as well. Maybe this spring? My guess is 21.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm guessing 6. I have no idea why, just seemed like a good number. Your work is stunning. Thanks for the studio tour.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I love your color wheel quilt!! So inspirational!!

Number of quilts in your place - I'm going with 19!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm gonna go with 37, I know some of my favorites don't live at your house since they live with your kids, I'm guessing you might not have all of the ones back yet that you made for the book and you mentioned giving some away so I'm sure you've made a ton more but 37 seems reasonable to me. Not sure why since i have a total of 7 quilts in my house and 3 of them are Christmas quilts. Make me feel the need to get busy sewing.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Nine is my lucky number, and I know that a lot of your quilts have gone to new homes or are with your boys...:)

    ReplyDelete
  69. I am going to guess 12. I also am wondering what kind of table that is that your sewing machine is sitting on. I have been looking for a table and that looks great. Does it work well for you?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Lessee, I currently have 10 quilts that meet your criteria, and only quilt a little bit, so I'm going 7 times more than that for no reason what so ever, plus one. Sheesh...

    71.

    ReplyDelete
  71. gorgeous color wheel!! I'm going to go with 66 quilts.:)

    ReplyDelete
  72. What the hell - have no idea but you quilt far more than me, you also give away a lot too but I'l say 39 (that's my age but not for much longer and I'm clinging to it for a few more weeks). I'm probably way over-board but that's my final answer!!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. More than one and less than 1000. :-) You are prolific and I love your quilts. 23 is my guess.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I am going to guess 8 - only because you downsized recently. Beautiful colorwheel quilt. Love it.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'll say 27 but it could be more or less for your limited space. Anyway I love your new space and the color wheel quilt is gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  79. mmmm... I have about 12 lurking around and I'm in no way as much of a quilter as you so I'll go high and say 42! Good luck to the winner!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I absolutely love that binding. That is genius! And you are right, it completely makes the quilt.

I am going to guess 34, since that is my lucky number :) Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  81. That is gorgeous work!!Hope you enjoy your reorganized space. :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. I have been reading your blog now for awhile and since you posted about it being your blogging anniversary I have started going back a reading it from the beginning when I have little bits of extra time. I just want to say that you are a huge inspiration and have inspired me to try things out of my comfort zone like improvisational piecing.
Thanks so much for hosting all these giveaways. My guess is that you have somewhere around 28 quilts currently.
Anyways, just want to say thanks again and happy sewing!

  95. Jacquie, I LOVE this quilt!!!! Wonderful quilting lines and great idea for the binding. It looks fabulous hanging in your studio. Don't you just love rearranging?! I've been doing quite a bit of that myself. I just received some fabric from Sew Mama Sew, so I'll skip the giveaway, but wanted to say hi!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I know it's duplicating, but I still guess 18.

    ReplyDelete
  97. 61. For no good reason, except that you're space always inspires me. It's clean and colorful and laid out in such a way as to work when you're ready to work...which you seem perpetually to be! And, if you just had to finish that amazing quilt so you could finish cleaning up, (hummm...doing the mental math)you must finish more quilts than you have time to blog about. That makes hundreds, but you give so many away that we'll subtract a couple dozen and allow for time off to walk Bruno.
    Love your work!

    ReplyDelete
  98. I love the color wheel on black! It's super lovely! I'm going to say 3. And the amount given away is WAY more

    ReplyDelete
  99. Oooh, I love that quilt. And the binding is so perfect.

I recently tackled my tiny sewing space as well, and came out victorious with a fresh new set up. :) It's so hard (for me) to go from a big out in a small city to a tiny house is a big city!

Oh, and since I'm commenting, I will leave a guess for the contest. I'm going to shoot really high with 57, just b/c I like that number.

    ReplyDelete
  100. 43??? I was also wondering what sewing desk you have? I'm always on the look out for a desk that I can drop my machine into.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I think you have 28 quilts in your apartment. I've been very keen to see how you're organizing your small space. Is your orange cutting desk 36" tall, for stand-up cutting? We're moving cross-country and my sewing area will go from the current 14' X 28' unfinished basement to an 11' X 13' bedroom. Yikes! I've been sorting to purge and have only managed to create a huge mess! Need any counted cross-stitch, smocking, knitting yarn or other craft supplies!? Hey, thanks for the chance to win your giveaway.
