In the midst of this I did manage one small finish. A very late birthday present for a friend. She picked the colors the fabrics and even requested the quilting. Made it easy for me. I'm happy to have it done for her. It's a combination of vintage sheets and Kona cotton in pink and pomegranate.
I made this block for Project Improv from some leftover Lush. I haven't contributed to the blue/green colorway yet, so I did.
The final deadline for me to receive your blocks is Friday. Please make sure they arrive here by then. After that I can't guarantee that they will be in a quilt. I've finished one more red/aqua, two more orange/pink and one more blue/green top. (I'll take pictures when the sun comes out!) There will be 3 more tops (one in each colorway). To make it all come out even, I have a group of quilters who have volunteered to make blocks to fill in the last 3 tops. I will contact them on Friday. Volunteers: look for an email or a flickr mail from me on Friday.Meanwhile these blocks have arrived. Do they belong to you? The first are from Oregon...this quilter made 4 great blocks. I need your first name. Please drop me a comment or an email.

Overall I've been pretty fortunate...I've only had a few block incidents, a crazy cat ate two blocks, and I punctured a couple with my trimming scissors. I think we may have had one lost in the mail. Karen, I have searched high and low for your block. It's not in a quilt and I can't find it. I'm so sorry. Drop me an email and we can talk about what to do.

I understand how difficult it can be to NOT say those motherly things. At least you have an end date of the visit(?) to help measure your patience.
I just found those Kona cottons tucked in a corner of one local shop. I never considered solids before, but these were nice.

Unbelievable, you are a force to be reckoned with! I can't believe that you completed a quilt with all that you have going on, go girl! Not to mention the fact that is absolutely lovely. By the way, I received 6 Project Improv quilts, to be quilted. And your most wonderful quilt to be quilted as well. Been there done that! our daughter and her boy friend moved in with us last May for a couple of months. I have never seen so much stuff in one house in my life. We made it although she dumped the boy friend later!!
What will happen, you will get used to having him and then miss him, but I am sure not the mess, hang in there~~

we have a 19 going on 20 and when she returns from school- oh the mess- the chaos- the disruption to our routine and our sleep. And when she leaves- the empty space and quietness echo throughout the house...amazing isn't it??.............and i ALWAYS manage to say the mom things I meant not to...:and so it goes....hang in there :)

fabulous quilting on your friends gift-and being a fellow mom of grown up boys...I hear you! feel free to whine away...and where are you moving on to? my 3 blocks went out yesterday so should make your Friday deadline. I think I put a note in with them...but photos of them are on my blog otherwise. these tops and quilts and blocks continue to delight and inspire me-what a fun project that continues to be!

I just recently started sewing and I love all of your improv quilts and the idea behind Project Improv. I just might have to make a quilt for myself. I would also love to do a block for a quilt for the project, do you have another one coming up soon?
Really? I have to hear more about the cat eating two blocks: not being a cat owner (seriously allergic)--a cat that eats fabric?!?! LOL.
I know what you are saying about t-shirts and boys though. My brother (recently married thank goodness) filled out about 3/4 of his walk-in closet with some variation of white t-shirt w/ logo--on HANGERS! And when I cleaned out his house a couple of times, he refused to let me even THINK about tossing any. Good grief. BTW, the remaining 1/4 of his walk-in closet was filled with white short & long-sleeved dress shirts. Unbelievable.

does it help to know you made someone else feel better. we're living parallel lives, tho with a time lapse of about one month. In May, our oldest, age 21, will be moving back in for two months. I told him HE may, his stuff needs to go to storage. He's above average messy (understatement). He's like Pigpen from Peanuts, instead of dust and dirt swirling, it's stuff and junk and fast food leavings, and it drops all around him as he moves about. I'd sure love it if you'd write little bits in your posts here and there about how it's going so I can see my future.
