Thirty-Two Times

Thirty-two screwed up half square triangles. I can't believe I did this. Spent the last hour cutting and getting ready to start sewing this new Streak of Lightning pattern. I got everything cut and marked. I was so excited to get started I saw those lines I marked to make half-square triangles...you know the ones...those lines just called to me..."sew here Jacquie." So I did. Sewed right on that line 32 straight times. Just whizzing along like I knew what I was doing. So confident, so excited to see that new "Swell" fabric turn into something fabulous. Then I looked down and remembered...not ON the line...a 1/4 in on both sides of the line. It's not like I've never made a half-square triangle before. Oh DRAT! I'm going to veg out in front of the TV while I rip out the stitching on these blocks....32 times!!!! Tune in tomorrow, maybe I'll have my brain with me!

You made me laugh...with you, not at you. I hope you're laughing anyway.

Well I think we may have all done that.....I know I sometimes wonder where I have put my brain...LOL

Don't rip. Just stitch where you were supposed to and trim right along on top of where you put the wrong stitch. It may not be perfect and you'll have to rip, some, but not nearly as much as all of it. Call it a stabilizing stitch :)

Oh I'm glad someone else does that too. I'd just stitch where you were supposed to and cut apart.

What is really bad is to discover you have made a mistake, such as sewing a block together wrong, then rip it out and proceed to sew it back together the same wrong way!

Just letting you know we all have done similiar things.

Just came across your blog and think I am going to enjoy it....

Jacquie,
First time visitor and I'm ready to put you on my 'favorite links' list.

Several posts ago you have two pillows with what looks like photos on them. How did you do that?? Photoshop?? I'm excited to make something on that order for my daughters. I'm starting some Christmas presents early this year!

I love your 'Happy Little Square' framed in black. As a new quilter that's my size of a quilting project. I'm anxious to play with just a square rather than a whole quilt.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Oh darn! I have done the same thing- only twice in a row- but still it hurts. I have been so bad about sewing the darned wrong lines lately that I have forced myself to finish one block right in the beginning. This way I try to work out all the kinks. But you know that right- that is why you are kicking yourself. Argh.

You aren't the only one that does that. My husband wonders why I talk to myself when sewing. That's the exact reason. I have to keep telling myself OUT LOUD not to sew where I'm not supposed to.

sounds very familiar, don't ask how many rippits my Baby Jane has seen meanwhile, but that's what seam rippers are for, sigh....good luck and patience. swell is fantastic isn't it?

Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving edifying words. You prove to me why i can't make a quilt - lots of patience! But yours are so lovely - im tempted to give it a go.

thanks for sharing that mistake-we all have been there, done that-and nice to know we can laugh at ourselves

Believe me, we've all been there! But at least you had a recoverable mistake. I've done a few where all you can do is sigh and open the trash can. I have a small sampler wall hanging that is half hand quilted already with a mistake in one block. I haven't had the patience to pick out that block and fix it yet. It's a UFO.

Sorry girl, but I had to laugh too. It's the silly sort of thing that I'd do.

Surely it would have been easier to sew the 1/4 allowance then just cut down the middle instead of unpicking all 32 of them .. .or am I missing something?

hope you put your brain back in gear when you put them back through the machine. lol
